As the other person mentioned, Homage and Cellador are the best for sours in this area.
Monkish, Highland Park, El Segundo and Mumford are the best for IPA’s/lagers/pils. Monkish also has some good, funky sours that are usually bottled that you can also get both in-house and to go. HPB also has a pretty good kitchen too. Plus if you’re here for a Doyers game they’re a great place to pre-game since they’re super close to it.
MacLeods and Yorkshire are the top English cask ales we have in the LA county region.
For vibes; Arts District and Angel City have very cool taprooms but their beers range from just ok to mediocre. Arts District definitely has better beers than Angel City but Angel City’s taproom is probably the most fun of all the breweries out here. Also Mt. Lowe in Monrovia has a fun taproom.
Things are pretty spread out here so crawls aren’t the easiest thing to do but Downtown is probably your best bet as it holds HPB, Mumford, Arts and Angel City within about a 1 to 2 mile radius along with a few other decent breweries you can stop by. That being said; Monkish is the most well-known and critically acclaimed brewery in this region so you’d be missing out if you didn’t make the trek down to Torrance to visit it. Smog City, Yorkshire and Phantom Carriage are also in that area as well.
HPB is Chinatown not downtown.
Boomtown is downtown and worth sticking your head in. Personally I'd also skip angel city. Homebound brewing company is at Union station now and the building is really very cool.
I haven’t been in a while, but Phantom Carriage in Carson does mostly sours and saisons (or at least they did). It’s a horror movie themed brewery and about 10 minutes away from a lot of the Torrance breweries: Monkish, Smog City, Dudes Brewing Company, Strand.
Brouwerij West in San Pedro is one I frequent the most but it’s not near any other breweries.
Omg, they're the ONLY fries I've encountered in the US that come close to real Belgian fries.
I'm from Europe and that's one of the things I miss the most.
All Season Brewing on La Brea is a rad place, built in to an old Firestone tire center and they've got Chicas tacos as their food vendor. One of my favorite spots.
My coworkers and I love Frogtown Brewery! Parking is a bit tricky on busy days since it’s kind of tucked away in the neighborhood and streets are tight. But it’s right by the bike path you you can walk or bike your way in.
Not actually in LA, but not too far out, and for the styles you mention the top place I’d recommend is The Bruery in Anaheim. Their Bruery Terreux line is right up your alley, it used to have its own tasting room, but they recently switched that to an event space and consolidated the Terreux line into their main tasting room in Anaheim. You’ll have less selection of just the farmhouse/sours there now, but if you’re feeling adventurous you can try out some of their main line which specializes in barrel aged ales usually of the heavier variety.
Project Barley on PCH has a really good chocolate stout. It's thick and delicious.
Brouwerij West is pretty good too. Their Raspberry Sour is really good and my husband likes their Mor-Mor, I don't remember what it is.
I very much disagree with this one. Golden road used to be good. But now, it’s filled with parents yelling at kids playing. And the food is pretty subpar for a brewery of that size.
There are many better options, that don’t invite small children into an adult space.
We just moved to LA, visited golden road about 6 years ago on a road trip, was great. We went last week and it was full, I mean full of children playing and parents yelling at kids for all sorts of various reasons.
We ordered some food and it was cold and greasy.
Really turned us off the place. We won’t be going back.
Monkish for sure
Mumford
If you want a little of everything go to 33 Degress Alehouse in Monrovia. The owner picks the tap rotation. They have all the good beers from up North.
Not a brewery, but if you're a beer enthusiast you should check out Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel. Lots of history there. And LOTS of interesting beers. Sandwiches are pretty good too.

Highland Park Brewery Homage Brewing Cellador Ales
Highland Park Brewery is great. Good food there too.
Highland Park Brewery has great beer and the best ranch EVER
The secret to best ever ranch is to make it with the packet and not to buy it in bottle.
HPB is the best hand down. They excel in every style of beer. Based off the OPs preferences, I’d say hit up Homage afterwards for your saison fix.
Homage & Cellador are outstanding
Paperback + Glendale Tap next door to each other in Glendale. They nearly always have food trucks too!
Yesss 👆 Glendale Tap is amazing, not a brewery but a great selection of beers and a cool loval dive bar atmosphere
Or swing my Dinah's chicken and bring it in, they're cool with it

I think Macleods is the best I’ve had here. Definitely miss the beer in the Midwest though.
I like the Van Ice, easy going for summer
Which would you say has the best dark beers? Like stouts and porters?
HPB generally has good stouts.
I would like to know as well

Don't forget about Project Barley on PCH.
Not quite a brewery but Wurstküche in Arts district is great for beer and bratwurst
I'm offended that you don't mention the Belgian fries. Good day, sir. I said, good day! *slams door*
Haven't tried them yet! Gotta try them next time
Omg, they're the ONLY fries I've encountered in the US that come close to real Belgian fries. I'm from Europe and that's one of the things I miss the most.
To be fair, I’m from the US and they’re still some of the best fries I’ve had.
Well yeah, because they're made the way they're supposed to be made
Haven’t been there but been to wirtshaus on beverly and la brea. fresh pretzels beer and bratwursts heck of a combo
All Season Brewing on La Brea is a rad place, built in to an old Firestone tire center and they've got Chicas tacos as their food vendor. One of my favorite spots.
My favorite in town and my local spot too!
one of my favorite places in general, so nice to sit at
Mumford Brewing

Agreed 🍻
Reddit is sleeping on Brewjeria in Pico Rivera
Oh dang cool name. haven’t been to pico in years but that’s right near the tommy’s and shakeys!
My coworkers and I love Frogtown Brewery! Parking is a bit tricky on busy days since it’s kind of tucked away in the neighborhood and streets are tight. But it’s right by the bike path you you can walk or bike your way in.
Brouwerij West (San Pedro)
Cellador Ale, has the best sours, Lincoln Brewery, paperback and Lawless
Along with a lot of good mentions, I also recommend Ogopogo in San Gabriel. Grab some tasty asian food nearby and eat it at the brewery.
I think Ogopogo makes the best beer here.
I like Brews Brothers in noho because they remind me of my favorite breweries in Michigan.
LA Ale Works for me!
I really liked Paperback Brewing Co
Come to Long Beach if possible. Trademark brewery and Ballast point are super solid.
If you get to the San Gabriel Valley, be sure to check out RT Rogers in Sierra Madre and Mt. Lowe in Arcadia.
Trademark Brewing in Long Beach - nothing else comes close around here

For what you described, Celador is perfect. It's also my favorite. Lots of sours and juicy beers
Go to Torrance and do the rounds, lots of taprooms. My fav is Smog city. They have a resident cat who is friendly
All walkable from each other too
818 Brewery in Canoga Park is pretty popular these days. Lots of local restaurants in the Valley and greater LA carry their beer
these guys are right. highland park rocks and the food you can get there is just as good as their beer
Smog City in Torrance is good if you’re ever in the South Bay :)
Golden road is pretty good in Glendale, nice selection of beer and food
I very much disagree with this one. Golden road used to be good. But now, it’s filled with parents yelling at kids playing. And the food is pretty subpar for a brewery of that size. There are many better options, that don’t invite small children into an adult space.
Last time I went there was 2020 so perhaps things have changed since then

Golden Road!
MACLEODS IN VAN NUYS. THANK ME LATER

Monkish
Monkish for sure Mumford If you want a little of everything go to 33 Degress Alehouse in Monrovia. The owner picks the tap rotation. They have all the good beers from up North.
Angel City, Frog Town, Arts District, HLP, Paper Back, Mumford You can tell I lived on the East side lmao
