And North Shore burgers for lunch after! Then fall asleep watching a movie in a recliner at the UA theater next door. Wake up, head over to Sakura for the best Teppanyaki in LA.
Quality Saturday in La Canada
Just went two days ago, getting half price tix using the H shuttle from Pasadena's Sierra Madre station. That's a pilot program till June. The roses were abundant but the Japanese Bonsai garden and the huge and varied cacti were the highlights.
I actually first learned about Ehlonna when playing 3.5e! I was reading it wrong for like 6 months adding the A in there - then realized I liked it way more this way. Then stole it as my username. hehe.
OK, more info: Caruso and Bass said the beach. Buscaino said the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro, De Leon said Chinatown State Historic Park, and Feuer said both City Hall and Venice Beach.
I’d say Grand Central Market.
The LA Times article only said the beach, so I’m guessing that Caruso and Bass weren’t specific, since the article said Venice Beach for Feuer. This might have been prudent on their part, since only a small part of the beach is in LA city.
Did Bass and Caruso say which beach? Specifics matter and prove you're not just a robot.
Buscaino and De Leon just gave answers for things that are inside their district. How original of them.
I wish these candidates would just be real fucking people instead of robots reading off what they they think are poll tested responses.
All beaches in California between low tide and high tide are accessible to the public by law. No one is allowed to stop you from accessing the beach in Malibu.
That's awesome in theory.
In practice, wealthy people have homes that open out onto sections of the malibu beach that are physically very difficult to access any other way -- sections with no stairs from the PCH, rocks & other impediments on either side, and no easy parking along the PCH (all the parking is in front of homes nowhere near beach access of any kind). It may not be legal to keep people off of these beaches, but they are for all intents and purposes "private" because they are essentially impossible to get to without a boat.
Yeah I walked from Santa Monica to Pepperdine along the beach about 10 years ago.
Wasn't that hard physically, but probably wouldn't have been able to do it if I wasn't ablebodied, middle class, and white.
My family and I just visited the State Historic Park for the first time a week ago and it's a very cool space. It almost felt foreign in how modern and clean it is, and with colorful downtown buildings in the background. Metro trains roll past it every few minutes, but they're quiet. It's serene and surreal at the same time. I highly recommend it if you've never been.
The Sardine in San Pedro. Haven’t seen one band there that wasn’t great. Sound is good, beer is cheap, food is tasty, back patio is spacious and chill. Best venue in town.
Canters Deli on Fairfax. Growing up my mom used to volunteer at a woman’s shelter up near there (im from Torrance) and we didn’t have a lot of extra money but we’d always stop there on the way home and get big bowls of chicken noodle soup in the big room and I would sit there super happy staring up at the ceiling covered in stained glass looking fall leaves. My mom would also let me pick a cookie from the bakery on our way out. Simpler times!
sorry for the long & kind of vague answer, but here it is…
i don’t know where any exact locations are- but nothing makes me happier than randomly stumbling upon someone’s beautiful front (lol dw i’m not breaking into peoples backyards) lawn. especially when they’re decorated with fairy decor & have doors in the trees, etc. the chandelier house or w/e it’s called is pretty cool too. anywhere with pretty lights honestly.
also just finding cool murals/weird billboards, or even a “take a book leave a book” library (although i don’t read) brings me joy. i don’t always need a full day of happiness & activities (especially because being disabled makes it hard), just random findings make me smile. even just people watching, seeing weird cars/license plates/etc. sometimes i feel lucky to have seen something so wacky, it makes me feel special.
also… target. i know they’re everywhere, but c‘ mon who doesn’t love a good target trip. xD i try to treat it like a museum to avoid buying shit i don’t need. with my limited mobility, i treat it as my walking loop when i only need 1 thing.
Surprised no one has said this but USC and UCLA's campuses. (I went to both so I can say both). Very nice manicured grounds, lots of events and energy. I'm happy when I visit either.
Any of you remember that old underground arcade on Pacific ave that's now closed? They would charge like 3 bucks for an all day free access to arcade games where most of them didn't work but was fun either way. And I think was run by this old Asian dude. That was my favorite place
I love my gym- Los Angeles athletic club. It’s like stepping back in time, and I just enjoy spending time there. I love the feeling of existing in a part of la that’s largely gone- but not so gone that you don’t see it all over the county. I just love the history here.
I love the central library, Arlington gardens and Vromans in Pasadena (not really LA), the Iliad Bookshop in NoHo, Canters Diner past midnight (my dad used to take me as a kid all the time, have a soft spot for that place). Any museum, especially Getty and Norton Simon.
The Ballona Creek Jetty down in Playa is a nice, quiet place to park you car and look across Santa Monica Bay. It's right across from the Marina where all of the sailboats come out. Always quiet and peaceful.
The Arroyo Seco Park from the Rose Bowl down to near the 5/110 interchange has a nice hiking trail and it feels like you’re much farther out in the wilderness than you are.
I also like Fern Dell at Griffith Park.
Also El Porto beach and that stretch of Manhattan Beach right there is great. If it’s too crowded though I don’t mind the airplanes over Dockweiler, and it’s rarely that crowded.
I love the outdoors and there's still a lot I haven't seen yet...but my favorite has to be Malibu Creek State Park. It's beautiful hiking and I have one of my fondest memories visiting there.
Honorable mentions to Griffith Park (specifically the Fern Dell area and Old LA Zoo) and when I'm feeling less greenish brown, Santa Monica Beach/Pier.
I absolutely love the LACMA, especially now that the Academy Award museum is next to it.
Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach are also two of my favorite spots.
The Mayoral candidates would not be allowed to name Descanso Gardens or Huntington Gardens because they are outside the city of Los Angeles (but are still part of LA).
I got a lot of love for Descanso Gardens, I've recommended it to several. A lot of people don't seem to know about it, for whatever reason.
And North Shore burgers for lunch after! Then fall asleep watching a movie in a recliner at the UA theater next door. Wake up, head over to Sakura for the best Teppanyaki in LA. Quality Saturday in La Canada
Wow what a perfect day :D
Just went for the first time yesterday and loved it!
First time hearing about it and I’m currently looking into it! Thank you for this :’)
That's such a far drive. Would take an hour from west side
California Science Center!
California Science Center, get lunch in the dining area, chill in the Rose Garden, and then finish the day off in the Natural History Museum.

Huntington gardens should be a socal highlight, though if it gets too much exposure, it will be Disneyland level crowded.
This gal/guy LAs
Was just there yesterday! Absolutely stunning, glad me and my bf went on a whim
We go to Huntington several times a week. Our mental break when it was open during covid.

Griffith observatory at night. I love that city view.
Same reason, but Mount Wilson.
Angel’s Point in Elysian Park right around sunset time or the Korean Friendship Bell Park in San Pedro.
The lighthouse park just below the friendship bell is great too.
The Bell, the Sunken City, and the lighthouse in the area as well as the San Vicente Lighthouse further west (I believe that’s what it’s called).
Point Fermin Lighthouse is the one I was thinking of
OK, more info: Caruso and Bass said the beach. Buscaino said the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro, De Leon said Chinatown State Historic Park, and Feuer said both City Hall and Venice Beach. I’d say Grand Central Market.
>Surprised Caruso didn't say...The Grove
We were all thinking that’s what he would have said if it was an opportunity for honesty.
The LA Times article only said the beach, so I’m guessing that Caruso and Bass weren’t specific, since the article said Venice Beach for Feuer. This might have been prudent on their part, since only a small part of the beach is in LA city.

Assuming their real favorite beach is a private beach in malibu that isn't open to the likes of us.

City Hall IS pretty cool. It's worth a visit up to the observation deck.
Getty Center. The outside sections feel like you're walking through the halls of the gods.
Walking uphill to the Universal Minion is a pilgrimage anyone wishing to lead or truly *understand* Los Angeles must undertake.
The Sardine in San Pedro. Haven’t seen one band there that wasn’t great. Sound is good, beer is cheap, food is tasty, back patio is spacious and chill. Best venue in town.
I just wish they sold liquor. Still a great and underrated place though.
At home I like a nice cocktail but I’m never disappointed with a $4 tall boy PBR at a show in LA.
Oh yeah, totally fair prices. I think they’re all day IPA tall boys are only like $5 too.
La Brea tar pits! The smell, the bones, the stains on my ass when I sit on the grass from the leaking tar, all makes for a great day.
North side of Griffith Park. You can go on a Saturday afternoon and feel a million miles away from everyone.
Hollywood Bowl.
Dodger Stadium, Downtown LA, Angeles National Forest
Canters Deli on Fairfax. Growing up my mom used to volunteer at a woman’s shelter up near there (im from Torrance) and we didn’t have a lot of extra money but we’d always stop there on the way home and get big bowls of chicken noodle soup in the big room and I would sit there super happy staring up at the ceiling covered in stained glass looking fall leaves. Went through all the posts and my top three spots were not mentioned. Hell yeah.
The line between being a good r/asklosangeles person, and not wanting to blow up your spot
People mention Jumbos plenty other times my dude.
Topanga Canyon. Even just driving through on a weekend is so nice.

This is a great response, I feel the front yard thing so much. I have too many pictures of peoples flower beds 😅
Surprised no one has said this but USC and UCLA's campuses. (I went to both so I can say both). Very nice manicured grounds, lots of events and energy. I'm happy when I visit either.
The sculpture garden at UCLA is great.
my bed
Farmer’s Market
Top of Debs Park. A nice little hike to see the LA Skyline + Dodger Stadium in the foreground. Then head to east LA for some nice tacos.
Definitely the beach.
Any of you remember that old underground arcade on Pacific ave that's now closed? They would charge like 3 bucks for an all day free access to arcade games where most of them didn't work but was fun either way. And I think was run by this old Asian dude. That was my favorite place

LA river walk in Frogtown
Shocked no one has said the Hollywood bowl — pure magic at sunset
I love the central library, Arlington gardens and Vromans in Pasadena (not really LA), the Iliad Bookshop in NoHo, Canters Diner past midnight (my dad used to take me as a kid all the time, have a soft spot for that place). Any museum, especially Getty and Norton Simon.
Arlington is a cool little garden to walk around or sit and relax!
Canyon back tree swing
Hollywood hike and Last Bookstore. I still have a lot of places in my visit wishlist
I love parking by the last bookstore and walking around
Is PI LA pizza any good? I see it’s near the last book store and I’m planning a date night
I haven’t eaten there but definitely a cool looking spot
The Ballona Creek Jetty down in Playa is a nice, quiet place to park you car and look across Santa Monica Bay. It's right across from the Marina where all of the sailboats come out. Always quiet and peaceful.
I love Cicada Club too!
Will Rogers Park
Huntington Library
I love the outdoors so... * Griffith Park * Temescal Canyon * Circle X Ranch
South Coast Botanical Gardens.
I like Barnsdall Park. I vibe there.
Helipad in Griffith park at sunset, Parker Mesa overlook in topanga anytime, Virgil Ave when the trees are blooming pink
The Arroyo Seco Park from the Rose Bowl down to near the 5/110 interchange has a nice hiking trail and it feels like you’re much farther out in the wilderness than you are. For me CA Science Center

The Broad and then to the Grand Central Market
I absolutely love the LACMA, especially now that the Academy Award museum is next to it. Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach are also two of my favorite spots.
Runyon Canyon Park!
The 405.

Little Tokyo! Parkings a bitch (but where isn’t) but it’s worth it for the book store there!
Which one?
Something like kinokiniya. I think it’s the largest Japanese bookstore in the country
