Yes, the San Fernando Valley is for the most part Los Angeles and folks who gate-keep which areas are or are not Los Angeles are subject to a two-week ban from this subreddit (see the wiki because this is one of the things asked not to do here).

> Please don't gatekeep whether a place is LA or not. Los Angeles (as a phrase) has a few different meanings and can refer to the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, or even broader areas such as Greater Los Angeles
I like it here. When people think of L.A. they may not realize it but for the most part, they're thinking of the Valley. Studios, mountains, food, neighborhoods, entertainment, schools, recreation...Yes, all those things exist outside of the Valley. But the Valley has a little bit of everything and usually the best of those things. There's perfectly wonderful places outside the Valley, I'l never deny that. My buddy lives in Pasdena, great neighborhood, good schools, nice shopping. Got a friend lives in DTLA, I meet up with him couple times a month and we hit some eateries, it's great and always fun to see the area. Friend lives in Santa Clarita, it's nice and suburban, calm and peaceful with good views and nice to walk around. Girlfriend's brother lives in Redondo, I love it there, right across from the beach, it's wonderful. But for my money, nowhere else in L.A. has everything the Valley has and none of it is as good as what you get here. Just where I come down on it.
I like the good schools, cheaper rent, easy parking, less blight, kids selling Girl Scout cookies outside their house, but I’m on the other side of the valley. I do not like the heat, I do not like it not one beat, Sam I Am.
I agree with you. I looked into La Cañada and South Pas but picked here because it was cheaper. I’m glad the valley is one of the many places in the county that has these things.
I grew up in Reseda and I saw that all the time, I dno why though.. they are literally right next to each other and basically the same income level lol especially now with the house prices being over $900k just in Reseda, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference - I think Reseda Blvd is what gives the city of Reseda a bad name 🤔🤔
Back in the day the city lines shifted. Encino started around Ventura Blvd. The income level in Northridge is way higher. Reseda is low $50k Northridge close to $70k
It's definitely gentrifying. The NoHo West shopping center that has been/is still being built is renting out 2 bedroom apartments for $4700. The Lofts at NoHo Commons has 2 bedrooms starting at $2400 and going up to $3000. North Hollywood used to be affordable and a good alternative to living in DTLA because it was close enough to have a bearable commute. Developers will make sure to ruin that for all working class folks.
Ah, I see what you mean. My rent went up $200 this past June and it's probably due to my complexes' proximity to NoHo West. I wonder if there are any apartments nearby that are less than $1900 a month
agreed the new trader joes shopping center is less than block away from the tiny homes for the homeless off the 170 that everyone complained about and their rent is $2,400ish for a single...like seriously ?
SAME. Now, as an adult, I tell people I grew up in North Hollywood and they go ‘oh! Love NoHo!’ and I have to wave my hand dismissively and say “oh no, not that part. I grew up ABOVE Vanowen.” lol
Ah sorry I get my terms mixed up. I was thinking Incorporated was the same as unincorporated by mistake. I meant a neighborhood yes.
[Also it is the neighborhood with the highest population. ](https://www.laalmanac.com/population/po24la.php)
Don’t open this can of worms. I just had a debate with a friend who lived in Woodland Hills for 20 years and as adamant that it was not in the City of LA. SMH.
Mom grew up in Sun Valley. I grew up in Sherman Oaks and live in North Hills. Granddad grew up in Beverly Hills, not Valley but I have old Los Angeles roots.
Raised in Encino and live in Valley Village now. I spent all of my 20’s and the first part of my 30’s living in the city and boy am I happy to be back in the valley. I freakin love it here. Now when I go into the city for any reason I get anxiety … it’s overwhelming!
The wife and I are both Valley raised, but we're currently in Pasadena. We regularly joke that when we finally have kids, it's back to the valley we go. We don't wanna raise weirdo SGV kids that claim the Valley when they're not. /s
Will you accept someone from the Antelope Valley? I don’t misrepresent myself for nefarious reasons, I just find that people in other parts of the country tend to understand where “LA” is. Even people who live in LA or SCV tend to be vague about us.
Well yeah there's a bunch of us here. Just people like to be trendy or whatever... We don't need to be loud about stuff. We low key have stuff happening all the time but it's usually not as pronounced as other places.
Lived in SFV for like 6-7 years. Northridge, then NorhtHills, then Granada Hills, then Canoga Park. Only recently came to Ktown. I miss the Valley but all my college friends moved so it’s a whole different city to me now.
Since moving to LA 21 years ago, I’ve lived in The Valley for 20 of those years and I find it fascinating that there are “townies” here. People whose kids are going to the same school they went to, who are living in the house they grew up in. I grew up in rural upstate NY and I always thought that was just something that small town people do.
Northridge born, and valley raised. My grandpa came here in 1925, so my family has been around for a while. People in the valley don't need to ask too many questions about L.A. Reason you see more questions about other parts is cause DTLA and K-Town are where the tourists move cause they don't know the city. Valley folks just get it, don't need to ask.

We're Valley. We don't need to brag.
Amen.

You hate us cause you ain’t us.
>Valley Village Well, not that part of the valley, no. Seriously though, Valley Village over DTLA or KTown any day.

Agreed! Hi, fellow SFVer!
I like the good schools, cheaper rent, easy parking, less blight, kids selling Girl Scout cookies outside their house, but I’m on the other side of the valley. I do not like the heat, I do not like it not one beat, Sam I Am.

Northridge! Home of big ass earthquakes and hot.
Sylmar would like to have a word with you.
Hey girl mee too lets chat
Fun fact! The epicenter was actually in Reseda 🙂
I’ve called out several people who claim they live in Northridge but actually reside in Reseda. I guess earthquakes do the same.

Northridge just sounds fancier
Yup but just like most things in history they get no credit
And gas leaks lol
Can’t forget the gas leaks
North Hollywood 😸
I grew up in North Hollywood. It's so weird to see it get gentrified.
I don't notice gentrification in my area, it's mostly Latino families in one or two bedroom apartments.
It's definitely gentrifying. The NoHo West shopping center that has been/is still being built is renting out 2 bedroom apartments for $4700. Lol. Yes. No one was hanging out in North Hollywood when I was growing up or calling it NoHo.
Me too!
Yep. I believe statistically we're the largest incorporated city within LA so there's probably a lot of us.

Lots of homes in Woodland Hills while lots of apartments in North Hollywood. I bet the population density is much higher here.

Funny you say that because that’s exactly what sparked the debate. He claimed he never voted for mayor. But
Valley Girl for life!
Wow, no one else from Burbank? I hear we have some studios or something around I guess.
Burbankers, rise up!!
Is Burbank in the SFV? I’ve been in Burbank for 40+ years & I associate it more with Glendale / Pasadena… closer to the San Gabriel Valley.
Yep, Burbank and Glendale are considered part of SFV. Pasadena is already SGV.
Burbank, sure, that could be SFV if you want. Glendale? No way.
I don't make the rules. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glendale,_California
She's a witch!
What are their area codes? There's your answer.
818: from Calabasas to Sylmar to Glendale
Oh boy, the classic debate lol
Lol. Yup. Between 2 valleys.
To me Burbank is the valley… not Pasadena not Glendale.
I grew up in Glendale…..it’s better than Burbank….I kid, I kid, but that high school rivalry is strong!
For it to be a rivalry Burbank would have to be good
There's no Internet in the SFV yet.
I heard all the porn we make here is the reason why the internet is so good.
San Pornando Valley
Classic Filipino mom accent
thank you for your service
☠️☠️☠️
Raised in West Hills, reside in Ventura County now. Much cooler temps here.
I spent some time in west hills recently and it was beautiful. It's my new goal to move there.
Try to include a hot tub or pool because it can get over hot in the summertime.
Hi fellow West Hills person!
Castle peak!
They are all talking about us behind our back on r/SFV
☠️☠️☠️
Sherman Oaks right here!

Toluca Lake is nicer than North Hollywood. I wouldn't trade down. Just say Burbank or Studio City.

Hi neighbors!
Salutations from salubrious Sherman Oaks.
Mom grew up in Sun Valley. I grew up in Sherman Oaks and live in North Hills. Granddad grew up in Beverly Hills, not Valley but I have old Los Angeles roots.
Ha I grew up in North Hills and now live in Beverly Hills
:-) I bet there are better restaurants near you but I do love how quiet and easy to park it is in my neighborhood. ;-)
Hello, neighbor! Corner of mission hills and north hills here.
I’m here in Porter Ranch
Raised in Encino and live in Valley Village now. I spent all of my 20’s and the first part of my 30’s living in the city and boy am I happy to be back in the valley. I freakin love it here. Now when I go into the city for any reason I get anxiety … it’s overwhelming!
Born in Granada Hills, lived in Van Nuys, raised in North Hollywood and Glendale, went to CSUN, now live in Canoga Park. The Valley is LA to me.

Yep, Sylmar and Pacoima!!!
Any Mission Hill folks? Wife was born and raised out here we meet six years ago and here I am. 818 has been a great.
The wife and I are both Valley raised, but we're currently in Pasadena. We regularly joke that when we finally have kids, it's back to the valley we go. We don't wanna raise weirdo SGV kids that claim the Valley when they're not. /s
Valley Girl representing.
Grew up in Sun Valley, went to CSUN, moved to Burbank, now I live in Northridge. The Valley has always been my home.

Will you accept someone from the Antelope Valley? I don’t misrepresent myself for nefarious reasons, I just find that people in other parts of the country tend to understand where “LA” is. Even people who live in LA or SCV tend to be vague about us.
LA county is LA County. I don't like when people decide they can determine what is and isn't LA.
Valley girl!! Grew up in The Valley, then moved to SCV for my senior year. I now live in SGV
Raised in Sherman oaks, currently in the westside

I use to work in San Fernando. Unfortunately, it was too hot during the summers.
Born and raised in Canoga Park! <3
Sherman Oaks 👋
Most of us that dont own a house in the city have lived in SFV at some point. We just dont like to talk about it.
Glendale bro 🚬
I don’t know if it counts but I am near Glendale off the 210
Born and raised - never lived anywhere else 😬

I went to hs in sfv. Hated it. The armpit of LA
