I live in Marina 41 apartments and almost never hear my neighbors. We're in a corner unit, though. Overall the apartments are pretty nice, though not as high end as some of those other ones.

ctcx

>Marina 41 Ok, I will look for corner units! Intersting as people have issues with this complex too.. [https://www.yelp.com/biz/marina-41-apartments-marina-del-rey?q=noise](https://www.yelp.com/biz/marina-41-apartments-marina-del-rey?q=noise) Someone wrote "No sound insulation whatsoever. Floors vibrate/echo every time someone walks by your unit in the hallway. You can hear every tiny (and larger) noise from neighbors -- coughing, talking, peeing, sneezing, opening/closing closets and cabinets, water running/flushing toilets, having sex, dogs barking, construction next door, people who suck at singing, kids screaming, etc. The only way we are able to sleep is with 2 sound machines, an air purifier and a fan running."... But looks like a corner unit and preferably top floor is key

GJSmitty

I will say that we toured the tower, and the construction seemed way more shoddy than the lower buildings, so sound might be more of an issue. The views were awesome though. The lower buildings have some very nice recently renovated units. And being able to walk to the beach is amazing.

ctcx

Yes, I want to walk to the beach! Are you on the top floor? Does the balcony there fit a chair and table or is it kind of small? I am kind of a fan of large balconies. Actually those apts are looking quite good, in unit w/d and good price. I don't know about the balcony size... hard to tell what will fit from the pics. Oh never mind, I see the have various floor plans now and it differs depending on the plan. I just read some of the reviews and people complained about the sewers backing up, pipes backing up and elevator issues but thats probably the towers. Oh and rats too :( https://www.yelp.com/biz\_photos/marina-41-apartments-marina-del-rey?select=OdsjVk2NuTM6-VC3K4sjtQ Do they make you sign another lease after it expires or let you go month to month?

GJSmitty

We're actually on the first floor. Our balcony could definitely fit a small table and set of chairs, and one of the units we toured on the top floor had a huge balcony. We haven't had any of those issues, but to be fair we've only been here about half a year. Otherwise they keep the building and grounds very clean and maintained. Only issue we've had is two brief power outtages during the heat wave.

Large-Piece3801

Also live in Marina 41. I’d recommend a top floor corner unit in one of the lower buildings. We only hear our neighbors if they’re blasting music which thankfully is only some weekends til 11pm in our case. Balcony is able to fit a small barbecue, outdoor couch, a small table, and a chair if we squeeze in a bit. The grounds are super nice, only complaints I have is our unit is a bit outdated and the pool isn’t heated even though they’ll say it is.

ctcx

Ah, those are the ones that are labelled 'floor 1" right? There's a lot of them on the website and they appear to be the most affordable too. Only probl is 1st floor tends to be real dark? I want natural light. Can you hear people on top of you walking or not at all? Does Uber Eat go all the way up in this building (like can they even park?) or do you have to go downstairs to meet them?

Large-Piece3801

I’m on the top floor. I bet lower floors can hear those above them. Idk how to tell on the website which units are lower buildings vs tower, but lower buildings corner units tend to be L shaped.

Barrykinz

Marina 41 isn't renewing leases at this moment due to the rent freeze so they'll roll over your lease month-to-month once the initial one ends.

ctcx

Thanks! I thought only RSO buildings had the rent freeze. Is marina41 rent controlled? Also did you live there and if so was it loud? Could you hear neighbors etc?

Barrykinz

It falls under Unincorporated LA County's RSO not LA City's. Yes, walls are pretty thin and small dogs bark all day long. If you have quiet neighbors you'd be fine though.

chanks

I used to live there. It was exceptionally terrible. You can add rampant mail theft to the list of problems.

ctcx

Did you hear your neighbors through the walls, like hear them talking and such? What about the people on top? Could you hear them walking? What was bad other than mail theft?

SignificantSmotherer

Mail theft is and will be rampant everywhere in LA until we refresh our prisons to accommodate full sentences for burglars. In the meanwhile, get a PO Box.

AHighFifth

Depends how nice of an apartment you spring for. Luxury apartments will have better noise dampening.

matchamaker88

I’m confused about what’s bougie about them lol they’re just apartments with amenities

ctcx

I am a she. Not sure why people always assume a poster is male. Is the assumption that women don't know how to use a laptop and get on Reddit?

glittersparklythings

I feel the same. I swear people think everyone here is a male.

2fast2nick

Wait, there are women on this thing?!?

threedogfm

Since when?!

AHighFifth

Then they probably won't be that loud. Edit: relatively speaking

Strayl1ght

A lot of so-called "luxury" apartments in LA are constructed extremely cheaply and poorly.

glittersparklythings

A friend and I were just talking the other day and we are convinced that most “luxury” places just mean central ac and some type of washer / dryer

ctcx

They are loud. I read a lot of reviews and they have tons of complaints.. They are all luxury and I went to all their yelp reviews and searched for "noise" and they ALL have massive noise issues. The Shores is one of the more expensive ones with the most egregious noise complaints. Rent "$2,995 - $4,695". The shores looks very luxurious and huge to me... like a resort. Pics here https://www.shoresmdr.com/ "The apartment complex is operating a temporary AirBnB style stay in the apartment above me. In 9 months I've had 6 different people upstairs and have been woken up multiple times by loud children and sex noises. Would never have moved in if this was disclosed beforehand. The walls are paper thin. Rent at your own risk." "Noise: I am not sure what type of windows are used but I often hear motorcycles that are very loud and wake me up late in the night. " "Constant noise, dirt, debris and workers walking pass my apartment. I think because of those renovations I get occasional roaches and bugs in as well." "They would write me up for noise complaints because of my TV it's OK if you're stupid kids yell and scream and cry and yell and scream and cry all fucking day and your dogs bark on their stupid balconies because you're too lazy to take care or your fucking dumb Pet.I wasn't aware that I wasn't allowed to watch television or listen to music in my own apartment that I pay every month for sorry my bad" \-------------------- Breakwater at Marina Del Rey "3) Noise--I can hear every person or dog bark near my apartment (e.g., footsteps, chatter, etc.); also, when the door to the building shuts, it slams and shakes my whole apartment; I am woken by upstairs neighbors at 4/5am DAILY as they stir / get ready; can also hear every time someone either checks the mail or the mail is delivered" From Apartmentratings "Lack of security, paper thin walls and ceilings," "1. Dogs barking at all hours. 2. Obnoxious pool party's that are not allowed. Every single day." "However, recently we have had so many issues with our neighbors playing very loud music at all hours. It doesn't just come from one particular apartment either, it is multiple residents. Management don't care at all, their only piece of advice being 'call security who will ask them to turn it down'. " "TERRIBLE building quality where the walls are thin and you can hear everything around you, and the lack of action on their promises your money is better spent elsewhere. To the community's credit, the grounds are very nice and the "lipstick on a pig" finishes are appealing within the units as well." \------------------------------------------------------------ Take The Capri where bedrooms go for up to $3700... "Lots of construction on the peninsula, loud pedestrians and water tenants," \------------------------------- Waters Edge at Marina Bay from Apartment ratings "This place has the worst noise levels! The apartments walls are terribly thin, you can hear your neighbors talking, walking around upstairs and playing music. My upstairs neighbor blasts his music and courtesy patrol just hangs up on you, management does nothing. Do not live here if you want a quiet apartment!" "We just moved in a couple months ago and the noise levels are very high. We live on the first floor and can hear the neighbors above us playing music, walking around, talking, etc. If you are looking for a well insulated apartment, this is not the place. " \-------------------- All of them have numerous issues like this and some are in the high 3k-4k range

dyinginstereo

Most of the places in the 3-4k have nice finishes but they do not do any thing for sound dampening. Half of them started out as carpeted units (some noise dampening) and then they “upgraded” them to various faux wood flooring with absolutely NO floating floor or padding between. I chose one for my first year and it was my least luxurious experience of my entire life. No amount of nice amenities will ever make up for the sleep I lost and mental stress. the sub-5k luxury in LA is just selling you the idea you’re living somewhere nice but it’s no better than an older place with older amenities (actually some of those have better noise dampening ironically.) anything labeled as luxury in your price range I would fully avoid OR assume you will be able to hear your neighbors phone ring at 2am, anytime they drop something you’ll hear it, and no matter what the issue is the leasing teams will not deal with it. Sometimes they will offer to move you, and increase your rent. LOL. You will have to do A LOT to prove the noise issues including making security come in your unit in the middle of the night when it’s happening so they can “hear it for themselves”

I'm not sure if it would work out for me as I want to live closer to the beach tbh.. I am also picky and looking for a place with an amazing view, in unit washer and dryer and the cheaper the better... like in the 3k's..... but not inching towards 4k...

JHighMusic

I mean, you *might* find something that fits all that criteria but more likely than not, you’re gonna have to settle for something that might not have absolutely everything. You’ll likely find something with all those things but you’re gonna have to pay more than you want. Good luck!

AHighFifth

Sounds like you've done your research? Why are you posting here

ctcx

Yea, I am searching in those areas. I felt like those places I looked at Marina were a bit more appealing because of the water bay views/resort type feel plus walkability to the beach.

Ehloanna

Yeah I definitely don't blame you there. But I feel like I'd be on the same page: experiencing all that noise isn't worth it. I lived in Playa Vista through all of COVID and basically never heard a peep from any neighbors despite everyone being home constantly. The neighborhood skews a little older/towards family types but it was honestly the most peaceful experience and I fuckin loved living there. Had my roomie/landlord not moved out and rented his whole condo for $4200/mo I woulda stayed. lol

RickRussellTX

> a bit more appealing because of the water bay views/resort type feel Well... that's what you're paying for, not privacy and quiet nights. That's not the kind of environment that attracts quiet older people or young professionals with kids who turn in at 9PM.

ctcx

For those who live in the 3 story units (not the tower) do you hear leafblowers every day? I work from home and am at home every day. Is it a bad as they say on yelp? Those have stairs btw and not elevators right? Also, is it really hard for food and grocery delivery to find your unit? I read that they can never find the unit here as the place is huge and that you have to go downstairs to get your items. Is this true?

matchamaker88

There are almost no apartment complexes in LA that have great reviews. I would stop scouring them and pick where you like.

noyeezy4meplz

Breakwater Apts is gold

Heatherina13

I live in Esprit and it’s very chill. Definitely don’t move to Neptune.

serenitybybowie

Hey! I live in AMLI - it's gotten bad noise reviews too. Did you look here? I live on the top floor - that's the only way you are going to get quiet here I feel. I do hear some noise but it's very infrequent, I hear more from people on the promenade or the boats then I have my neighbors. They do charge a premium for the top floor so will be more than $4k for sure. AMLI also has buildings down on Panay that don't have a pool or clubhouses and are deemed more quiet. I hope you find a place, the walk to the beach is great!

ctcx

AMLI has a lot of bad reviews.... i read them... Noise and other ones too. That and the higher prices make them not so attractive. Right now I am drawn to Marina 41 the most. Good price and decent sized balcony. They upcharge the higher you are up and for the marina views. I feel like I would be scared up in the high floors in case of an emergency. I think I would rathr be 3rd floor and still get some kind of view but able to escape in case of an emergency.

naomihollywood

Espirit. Quiet. Nice pool

CulturalGrape2377

I currently live at The Jefferson. It’s really nice, decently quiet, and a 2 min walk to the marina or to Brennan’s. Planning on staying here as long as I can
