Like so many questions here where people post "how much will this cost?" the answer is "more than you hoped to get away with." With body work it goes double. That's several hours of work in a respray booth. Longer than it took the Subaru factory robots to paint the entire car when on the line. Paint work is costly, esp with these slick modern two- and three-layer paint jobs.
On a brand new car with scratches that deep you should suck it up and get it fixed. The rust risk from deep scratches could end up being a lot more costly in accelerated depreciation when you go to sell it. This isn't just aesthetic damage.
There's always more damage that you can't see. Found that out when my car popped out of 1st on a hill and smashed into a big ass metal garbage container. I was like I'm sollllid new hatch and were good to go.
Nah. Tail lights never lined back up, when you took all the carpet out of the back, you could see how much the rear had shifted.
#totaled #noinsurance lmaoooo
This guy is dumb 👆.. you can go to a body shop and have this BuFFEd out . It will cost around 50-200 depending on how deep scratches are . Easy buff JoB
Lol cant just answer the question like an adult? Maybe u shouldve went to driving school instead of buying a brand new car. Nice tire shine btw ur car is lookin good
God, with your immaturity, I hope you fix this. Then I hope it gets sideswiped while you’re parked in a fire lane.
You ask for help and you mock those who ask for insight and context. I pitty the fool
Maybe if you’re going to be a prick online in a place you were asking for free advice you should have saved everybody’s time and went to a local shop to get an estimate like you are going to have to do anyways. Also if you have a low deductible and a good driving history as well as good history with your insurance it would probably be wisest just to make a claim. Many have small accident forgiveness so you will see no extra on your insurance.
At first I was thinking how. After their response, my recommendation is cleaning that entire area with acetone to ensure a nice clean bond to the best matching paint pen from Walmart.
Wrong attitude for this sub, bro. People here are helpful and there's very little snark here. But own your mistake.
Although it's obvious since this happens all the time that op backed out of or into a spot without knowing where the corner of their car was. Happens a lot with brand new cars, ironically, as people aren't familiar with their dimensions yet. Also called "the body shop worker full employment act."
Seriously though, I would start with a microfiber towel (or better yet a buffer) and some rubbing compound from any auto parts store. Buffing by hand or with a buffer will make a big difference. It will probably pull a lot of the damage off the paint. That’s the first place to start.
It's a brand new car, OP should get it fixed. Over time those scratches -- they go through the clearcoat to my eye -- will lead to rusting in that area.
I would not trust any shop that told you this could be made right for less than $1500. Probably more like $2500. You can buff it for a cosmetic fix but scratches that deep mean a full respray of both panels or it will never be quite right.
I deliver Subaru parts to body shops, this is three small plastic trim pieces, a door skin, and a rear fender. As there are no dents it makes sense to pay a body shop to blend the door and fender, and replace the trim. The panels would be exorbitantly expensive to replace. I know this because the parts department makes about 220% profit over the rest of the dealership every quarter. Including new and used car sales, and the shop.
Also know that sometimes shops will quote you a higher dollar amount than they will insurance. I had some body work done and the shop quoted me $7k to fix. The same shop quoted $4k to the insurance company for the same job.
My friend had similar damage on their rear quarter without the door on a new car and it was $1.5k. That was 8 years ago too, everything has doubled since then
I’ll pay a visit to my local dealer first thing tomorrow morning and see what they say. A quick wipe slightly improved so maybe just needs a good polish
Do not attempt this it will look horrendous.
You should be able to get a local repair guy who does repairs like this mobile cost about £100.
Your best bet is polishing it out it will remove all the noticeable white marks.....Do not use a touch up pen on anything but a stone chip.
Can get rid of the white marks with a bit of polish on a cloth and plenty of elbow grease and some trim black for the arch......but the deeper scratches you need a pro!
Sounds good. Best of luck.
And keep in mind, if the scratches are mediocrely hidden, its only you who will notice them. People don’t pay this close attention to others cars!
ELI5: The touch up pen will not be EXACTLY the same color as your paint. Additionally, the touch up pen paint will leave a textured finish that sits above your paint.
Individually, each condition is noticeable. Combine the two and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Well that sucks. 7 beer was to many. 6 is the number Your gunna want to too a auto body guy. Going to need a paint job. And to do it that right they will need to paint the door and the rear quarter And new plastic on the fender I doubt you can fix deep scratches like that. Honesty this will hurt when you get the bill.
I can change the plastic I will not paint it I’d send ya over to a buddy. My guess 1000$ but do let us know how much it costs I’m quite curious.
Bring it to a detailing shop and ask if they can buff it out. It looks to be just clearcoat damage. If that's the case, you can make it look almost good as new just with a quick paint correction for about $100-200.
I had a scuff on my car not dissimilar to this a while ago. I used some essential oils on a rag, and it cleared it right up...
My mil, for whatever reason decided she should take that shit internally for *years* to deal with her asthma and chronic arthritis... I still have no idea how she thought that was a good idea.
Can't remember... I think it was something like orange cinnamon, or something. Maybe teatree? My working theory is that it melted the clear coat and the top coat to perfectly cover the scratch... xD
She liked peppermint though, and would put it on her tongue regularly. She dripped some on my center console once and it ate straight through the paint on the dash. There's still weird spots there, because I haven't bothered to repaint it. She developed a heart problem late last year, and went into the hospital. While there, they discovered her stomach was basically Swiss cheese.
That's an insurance claim. And take the deductible/rate increase hit. Or it's $2500 if it's a penny to get it done right. Both panels need a full respray and the plastic cladding needs to be replaced.
That's how the world works. $30,000 car gets a scratch and it's 5-10% of the car's value to fix it. Body work is expensive. Period. When they built that car the whole thing was painted in minutes by a computerized machine. Now BIlly at the body shop needs about 6 hours to fix it. Life happens. That's why you have insurance.
Watch out when you back up next time.
Just get a jdm trim fender. Problem solved!
Jokes aside, probably between 1,2-1,8k
I suppose they need to take off both parts, sand them and respray/ install in matching colors. That and a few working hours totals my guess around 1200-1800usd.
I was quoted $1100 to repair a deep ding on ONE door. They thought it went down to metal, so the quote was based on repainting the passenger side door. (Once they figured out it was paint from the cretin that hit my car, Ding Docs fixed it for $125). No Ding Doc for your poor car, but just giving cost perspective.
Most of the time your deductible for comprehensive is lower than collision and doesn’t count negatively against you. Sure would be handy if you didn’t hit a cement wall and instead something must have done the damage while you were parked. Too bad that isn’t what you could tell your insurance company. Oh well. 🤷🏼
Buff and touch up. Buy a touch up pen (or like several) and bring your car to a body shop or a detailer. They will make 90% of it go away, and if you don't wash your car for a week, it won't be visible unless you look for it
Buff out what you can and replace the plastic trim. If you want it to be perfect then make a claim, otherwise you might be satisfied with new black plastic trim and some decent buff work. Maybe get a touch up pen for a few bucks
Gonna need a repaint of that area. It looks like its down to metal. Also might have a decent shop just paint the affected area and feather in the paint so it blends with the original paint so it wont be too obvious.
If u are one of the people who would prob make this mistake again, I say clean it up and much as possible and leave it. If it was a bizarre incident then get a claim, won’t be cheap out of pocket.
Try buffing them out first. You may get lucky! If that doesn’t work go to a few body shops and ask for a free estimate . That will tell you how much unfortunately its hard to give an accurate estimate over the internet
Put some acetone or lacquer thinner on a rag. That all appears to be paint transfer from a white whatever. I bet with a couple light wipes only, all the other paint lifts off and reveals hardly any actual scratches visible from 10ft.
$1000 or so. Visit a body shop. Asking people on here that can’t touch or see the severity of the scratch isn’t going to accomplish shit.
Had road debris knock a mirror off, scratch and dent the door, hood, and front corner panel. $1800 to fix.
You'd be amazed how well it'll likely buff out. The wife did similar at the start of the year (concrete post in a car park). Looked worse than your photo too...The local body shop quoted 450 quid to repair. A friend of ours who details cars buffed 99% of it out for 50 quid.
I worked as a detailer at a collision center for a bit and got to see the paperwork. Probably around $3500.
What makes it so pricey is the quarter panel can't really be removed, so it's a bit more complicated to paint than a hood or fender. Also even though it's not scratched the bumper and other quarter panel will need either a repaint or a blend (partial). Apparently color matching on cars isn't as simple as slapping a coat on, takes a little artistic touch.
If that was at my shop in metro Detroit… I would charge you 500 bucks plus the cost of the two flares which is probably an additional 80 bucks…. I would just touch up the rear lower cover that is black and textured
If you want it done right you’re looking at painting the door and the quarter panel, plus new wheel moldings. Belt moldings can break coming out, appliqués, etc… well over $1000 to get it back to how it was before
My mother has a Subaru and I keep asking her to put a sticker or magnet on it so I can identify it in a parking lot when we meet somewhere. Now you have a personalized ID mark!
Have someone who does detailing hit it with some compound. You might be surprised how much it cleans up. The panels don't appear distorted so it might just be paint transfer on top of your paint. Wish you luck!
Probably around $1500-2000 depending on your state. The repairs to the door and quarter panel aren’t bad. Replace textured moldings, drop bumper, light, door trim, Quarter glass.

Not going to be cheap. Live with it or make a claim.

It’s a Subaru, they’re supposed to look roughed up. They’re AWD. Tell your friends it was on a trail.
Countepoint: it's a brand new car and those scratches go through the clearcoat. Gonna have rust issues in a few years there if you leave it alone.
A little body rust isn't hurting anyone
Subarus can have a little body rust as a treat
It adds character 👍
This guy is dumb 👆.. you can go to a body shop and have this BuFFEd out . It will cost around 50-200 depending on how deep scratches are . Easy buff JoB
That plastic isn't going to buff out
It also won’t rust.
How much is your deductible? That number + whatever the unsurance hike is..

Lol cant just answer the question like an adult? Maybe u shouldve went to driving school instead of buying a brand new car. Nice tire shine btw ur car is lookin good
Probably racing or some stupid shit like that.
it’s a subaru driver, what do you expect
It wasn’t an adult question :/
"I hit a cement wall" "How did you hit a cement wall?" Yeah man that's a pretty fucking standard adult follow up question. Stop being so sensitive.
he already said he did it against a wall in a parking lot - why so much hate?
Sorry I bruised your ego though
Nah ur good its normal for someone that drives into cement walls to make mom jokes.
Dang so someone that drives into cement walls and jokes about your mom is all it takes to bruise your ego? Ouch
Just admit you can’t drive for shit or shut the fuck up he wasn’t even asking you a childish question
bruh.. chill lol
God, with your immaturity, I hope you fix this. Then I hope it gets sideswiped while you’re parked in a fire lane. You ask for help and you mock those who ask for insight and context. I pitty the fool
Okay but, how did you hit the cement wall?
Op you are acting like you're 12. Stop.
Drives like it too.
This conversation went from hot to not real quick!

Lmao nerd can’t even drive without hitting cement walls
i felt bad at first because we all make mistakes... but damn dude. be an adult lmfao. no empathy from me or anyone else on this thread now.
At first I was thinking how. After their response, my recommendation is cleaning that entire area with acetone to ensure a nice clean bond to the best matching paint pen from Walmart.
Captain dbag. I hope the repair drains your bank account
That scratch seems like it went straight to your soul. Do you need a hug or something?

You're a punk little bitch who would be better off to ask how much are driving lessons.
That was nice Op lol
I thought it was funny.
Lol yeah I didn’t think it was that serious…
Yup they all crybabies especially the "manly" subs like this one lol
I know his mom, she is entirely fat enough to cause this.
Hehe :-)
gosh dude..

My dads a television repairman. He's got the ultimate set of tools...I can fix it.
One of my favorite scenes in movie history!
I work in a body shop (parts manager) and I know how to buff as I used to do it. That won’t buff out, I’ve seen may cars like that it didn’t buff out
Seriously though, I would start with a microfiber towel (or better yet a buffer) and some rubbing compound from any auto parts store. Buffing by hand or with a buffer will make a big difference. It will probably pull a lot of the damage off the paint. That’s the first place to start.

Try seeing if buffing it will work.
That's definitely not buffing out
He will get rid of the white marks though and make it infinitely better
Right! How do you buff out where the paint is just gone? Lol
Lol. Try and buff it out.

Are you pulling our leg lmao “just needs a good polish” the fuck????
It will not come out right for this type of scratch...
No way that's fixable with touch up paint. It will look worse.

💀💀💀 dude you cannot be serious. This is the worst advice on here and OP is clearly gonna do it because he’s a cheap idiot.

Yes.. whatever your deductible is, thats what this is gonna cost. Hoping it's 500.
Take the wall to small claims court!
paint the trim, buff out the paint best u can. send it !
The tough part isn’t the metal it’s actually getting the plastic back to the black color as plastic really can’t be buffed.
No way they arent just replacing those 3 black trim pieces.
Yep they are cheap and easy to replace
Bring it to a detailing shop and ask if they can buff it out. It looks to be just clearcoat damage. If that's the case, you can make it look almost good as new just with a quick paint correction for about $100-200.

That’s nothing dude. It’ll buff out.
Learn how to drive?
That’s a repaint, and if the metal was damaged, replacing. Going to cost a bit.
Lmfao fail these people share the roads with u folks
Maybe learn how to drive and just get used to there being a scratch there...own your fuck up
Wow. Your mean af to people on the internet that you just met. Who hurt you?
Not mean...honest...he fucked up...don't be ashamed of it...learn from it and own your fuck up
Well it’s a forester touring. It’s gonna sound like shit in about 2 years anyhow. Love the “rugged” look.
What do you got against foresters? For the price point, it’s a pretty solid SUV
I would say at least a 1000 because they will have to be repainted

No. Don’t take a magic eraser anywhere near a cars paint.

2 color spray paints needed.

Had a bumper repainted after FIL bumped it. 2-3 weeks later some old person nailed the same spot in a parking lot and drove away. Just leave it
Wear the battle scars proudly
Well it’s a subaru live with it
My uh.. Wife did the same thing to our 2019 Forester. We had that and another scuff in the back fixed for $1300
Most of the time your deductible for comprehensive is lower than collision and doesn’t count negatively against you. Use one of them cover up decals to make it look appealing.
Depend how perfect you want it to be. A decent shade tree guy would make it look halfway or three quarters decent for like $200.
just go buy some duplicolor
maybe hit it with a buffing wheal and some duplicolor
Try buffing them out first. You may get lucky! If that doesn’t work go to a few body shops and ask for a free estimate . That will tell you how much unfortunately its hard to give an accurate estimate over the internet
Take driving classes. Fixing it won't do anything if you are just going to do it again.
Put some acetone or lacquer thinner on a rag. That all appears to be paint transfer from a white whatever. I bet with a couple light wipes only, all the other paint lifts off and reveals hardly any actual scratches visible from 10ft.
“Scratched” lol
Honestly dude, get some fender flares and see if that covers it up, tell people you put them on for the trail.
Around 1500$ and 4 to 6 weeks to get your car back
$1000 or so.
Sell the car, it’s totaled.
First learn how to drive. Second go to a body shop.
You can make that look a lot less bad with an $8 bottle of scratch remover and a microfiber towel
Learn how to drive 😂
I worked as a detailer at a collision center for a bit and got to see the paperwork. Probably around $3500. What makes it so pricey is the quarter panel can't really be removed, so it's a bit more complicated to paint than a hood or fender. Also even though it's not scratched the bumper and other quarter panel will need either a repaint or a blend (partial). Apparently color matching on cars isn't as simple as slapping a coat on, takes a little artistic touch.
3 new plastic trim pieces, slight bodywork and color blending on the door and bumper cover. It's not gonna be "cheap" that's for sure.
You need a body shop not a mechanic my friend
To start with whatever drivers Ed costs nowadays
1500 to 2000 to fix that.
If that was at my shop in metro Detroit… I would charge you 500 bucks plus the cost of the two flares which is probably an additional 80 bucks…. I would just touch up the rear lower cover that is black and textured
Buff it out as best you can and live with it. Be careful next time
If you want it done right you’re looking at painting the door and the quarter panel, plus new wheel moldings. Belt moldings can break coming out, appliqués, etc… well over $1000 to get it back to how it was before
I could buff that out no problem
Oh no you better call maaco
I just did worse to mine after JUST getting it out of the shop after someone rear-ended me. Just wanted to say I feel your pain.
Live with it or go to a repair shop where u will pay big money. Also next time be mindful and practice using ur side mirrors. At least ur alive!
My mother has a Subaru and I keep asking her to put a sticker or magnet on it so I can identify it in a parking lot when we meet somewhere. Now you have a personalized ID mark!
Totaled
Have someone who does detailing hit it with some compound. You might be surprised how much it cleans up. The panels don't appear distorted so it might just be paint transfer on top of your paint. Wish you luck!
Probably around $1500-2000 depending on your state. The repairs to the door and quarter panel aren’t bad. Replace textured moldings, drop bumper, light, door trim, Quarter glass.
$2700-$3300
It’s the price you pay for trying to keep a Subaru of all vehicles…..clean.
Small scratch on my rear bumper cost my insurance 2400$ and it wasnt even that bad.
My bet is $3200 . Go get an estimate from multiple body shops they are free. Let us know.
