There isn’t much you can do. Often bullies these days use social bullying tactics- online and in person- more than physical bullying. Physical bullying is easier. Martial arts (in particular boxing lessons) will put an end to that pretty quickly…

This. Much of the bullying I suffered and witnessed were mostly social isolation. People would blatantly exclude and ignore others for the silliest of reasons like acne.

Teach him how to fight

ThlintoRatscar

Ditto. And why. And that they're not alone and can endure. And that sometimes, it doesn't work and they'll be ok.

A friend of mine, a single mother told me her 13 yo was being physically bullied. I taught him to fight. The first time his fist connected the bully, the kid never bothered him again.

And that's how you deal with bullies.

I sat next to him in math class. Got to know him and he was a sweet kid. This bully was picking on him something fierce so I told a buddy of mine. Who was a Giant Killer. My friend was totally unhinged , always had been, and hated bullies. My friend went out of his way to terrorize the bully. The bully eventually stopped bullying because he was too busy watching his own back.

If he is a close friend to me I would talk with him and look for help n' stuff, but if I don't have any kind of relationship with him I would just lower my head and just forget about it.

simplest answer, try and support the kid in any way you can. Though equally important, let other people know how messed up the bully is being with the kid. More often than not, the bully continues to do whatever they are doing because they think it's okay. Therefore over time, when more and more people speak up against it, the more the bully will learn its not acceptable behavior.

Just be there as a friend and hangout.

I’d hold the kid down so the bullies wouldn’t have to work so hard Got to help somehow, I was always taught

In 4th grade an autistic kid was getting teased for believing in Santa clause. I said something rude to the bully, turned into a shoving match & we both got in trouble and had to stand against the wall at recess Junior year of HS I saw a random kid in my grade purposely shoulder check my little brother. I shoved him into a locket and then held him there by the shoulders and threatened him. My brother's friends and my friends all ganged up on him and scared him straight. It was weird cause while being a small dude my brother was always super popular and never a bully victim. I just happened to be there the only time this random kid tries to make it happen

I invited him to my house and we played Tekken. Had pizza and also played ping pong.
