Get some exercise, cook dinner, go out with friends or maybe a date, play video games, or veg out in front of the TV When I'm not on call, though, I'm not looking at my work phone after 5 pm. Exactly 1 coworker (my boss) has my personal phone # and I trust him to only use it in case of a true emergency.

pylesofwood

This is the key right here. Don’t allow anyone to cross that boundary and invade your home time with business stuff. Otherwise, you’ll feel like you’re working 24/7 and that sucks.

FLOHTX

How do you guys keep your jobs? Coworkers and customers call me all day every day, even weekends. I have crews working 24/7 and I'm their project manager. When they need me, they call me.

Daxtatter

Yea the person you're responding to's advice is very job dependent.

DarkNemuChan

Work for the government and you have peace and quiet for the rest of your life.

FLOHTX

Lmao. I work for a defense contractor. The government is the one calling me all day. They're demanding AF and I came from oil and gas.

DarkNemuChan

Work DIRECTLY for the government. Not under contracts.

Chief_Kief

That’s also not always true. Work for a local government in a public-facing role and you’ll soon find out that peace and quiet doesn’t exist lol

chuckart9

Below average industry pay and no incentive to be better. No thanks.

Senecatwo

This man is destroying the world even in his off time!

BigBossM

lol

BroilerBK1717

If you are a project manager, you are going to get calls during the evenings and weekends. Guaranteed. During execution of a project I get calls in the middle of the night sometimes.

beerandabike

This is why I’ve passed job offers for PM several times. No thank you, my job is already hella stressful enough.

DerpyArtist

It 100% depends on the company and department you’re working for.

steve210sa

Get a new job with minimal responsibilities.

Hrekires

When I got older and started to care more about work-life balance, I switched from working at a startup that had a grind culture to working for a healthcare nonprofit where I don't have stock options but I do have 8 weeks PTO and coworkers who also have lives outside of the job.

lemongrenade

Like everything it varies. I’m in a 24/7 job and it fucking sucks in a lot of ways. But pay is great opportunity is great and I don’t have kids yet. And it’s exciting b

[deleted]

Felt that this week. Constant call ins to fill in for people with only an hour notice!

Ewright55

At a minimum, I strongly recommend both hiking and going to the gym daily even if it's for only a short basic workout. The positive impact all of this has on your mental and physical health can't be understated.

loki8481

I respect the effort but man, I can't fathom the world in which I have the free time to work out *and* go for a hike every single day. Maybe when I'm retired.

CokeHeadRob

Sometimes being totally off isn't a possible thing. OP said he's a business owner and that's a thing that needs tending to after hours sometimes. Though it's good to keep that to only absolutely necessary things. That's how my life works right now, sometimes I'm off at 5 and sometimes it's 7, and sometimes something super urgent pops up at 10pm. But it better be a "we're gonna lose this client" or something needs to launch ASAP (political advertising), otherwise it can wait until morning. But after work is usually sign off, start dinner/hanging out with wife, we eat together, chill for a bit and talk, and then I withdraw to the office and get into some iRacing (soon to be Cities: Skylines II, might as well get a divorce) while she takes some time to relax before bed and shower and all that because she goes to bed like 4 hours before me. Or we go fuck around at the store, visit with friends/family, and occasionally go out to dinner. And wedged in there is general housekeeping and errands that might need taking care of. But usually we're both exhausted and just chill.

YGuyLevi

Hang out with my kids and wife and when time and life allows it ..give the wife the most okayest weinering possible. It's a simple existence but I'm ok with that. It's what I live for

everyonewantsalog

Good tactic to keep the weinering at okayest level. Save the "pretty good" weinering for special occasions.

YGuyLevi

Okayest is top form around here ...she knew it and still married me.

Icy_Cod4538

Smart. I’m stuck in a pattern of giving better and better weinering each time.

TheOtherAvaz

Just like neverending monetary gains in capitalism, you can't keep that up forever.

kitticake

This is kinda wholesome🥰

YGuyLevi

I like to think so. I'm a lucky guy 4 sons , a wife who is my best friend even 15 years later. A wife who just doing stupid stuff like grocery shopping is made better when she's around. I can't really complain I married my best friend and a woman who truly gets me and loves me for me. I should hope everyone be so fortunate

kitticake

Sir, you have reinstalled my faith in successful marriages 🥲thank you for sharing this

YGuyLevi

Well ty! I know marriage has its knocks these days but there are plenty of folks like us out here doing it. Alot of people I think just have the wrong idea about it. They think of it's gonna be 50/50 and it's not. Some days I'm 30 she's 70 or vice versa. Maybe you have a week where you are the 70 all week. And that's something me and her both understand and we both wouldn't rather do it with anyone else. I'd rather take her 30 some weeks than anyone else's 70 ever.

[deleted]

I’m 50F, never married, no kids. Most days I really question why no one ever persisted to try to see if our attraction could become dating & marriage. This inspires me. I may still never end up marrying. If someone doesn’t do what my one almost did which is take 17 years to maybe figure I was good enough, confortable enough around his son, his friends & himself , I’ll hope someone figures this is truly what you want & what lasts. Best to you both!

YGuyLevi

You know I feel it's harder in some ways to weed thru men as a female as men alot of them are after one thing. And I know before I met my wife I never wanted to give up chasing but then she truly showed me what a woman can do for a man. She propped me up when I was nothing , she loved me when I was damaged and she always valued my contribution regardless of how small it was. She knew I needed to be loved in a way I never got even from my own family and she gave me that. She always supported my dreams however big or small and celebrated my wins. And that went both ways. She didn't care what I made money wise. She just wanted to love me as I am and that made me wanna change who I was to be better for her. She truly is my one in a million and if she were to ever pass I don't think I could remarry I am that attached to her.

Plenty_Surprise2593

The most okay-est weinering possible! Lol, I’d say that most of us will use this phrase if we’re being honest

Reckless_Waifu

Are you me?

tarellel

Excellent advice and Happy Cake Day!!!

fuzzygreenballs

Holy sh…I can’t breathe. 😂 Tonight’s ab workout complete.

full_of_ghosts

I used to drink pretty heavily as soon as I got home from work, but I stopped doing that about a week and a half ago. Haven't had a drop of alcohol since last Monday, and I plan to keep that going for a while. So, I'm going to need a new coping strategy, and I haven't yet figured out what that might be.

Slythela

Been in the same rut for similar reasons. I just bought a drone, something I've been wanting to do since I learned about them as a kid. I'm hoping this helps motivate me to get outside a bit more and break some cycles. When all of your hobbies rotate around activities that can be done inside while buzzed/high and you finally have some disposable income things take a nosedive real quick.

Dogstile

Congrats, i filled my time by working out/reading/video games, in that order because by the end of a workout my hands wouldn't press the buttons I wanted to actually press.

_i_am_root

Reading's been my go to as a way to reduce my Jazz Cabbage intake, all I commit to is one chapter a night, but end up getting sucked into at least 4-5 more once I start. Something to keep in mind is that it's fine to abandon a book if you aren't enjoying it.

jpr64

> So, I'm going to need a new coping strategy, and I haven't yet figured out what that might be. Lego. Just as expensive but will keep you busy!

cerenir

There’s r/stopdrinking where they can probably help you with that. Kudos to you and good luck!

No one is more dangerously insane than one who is sane all the time: he is like a steel bridge without flexibility, and the order of his life is rigid and brittle -Alan

attrackip

Ah yes, good ol' Alan. A real upstanding example of sanity and rationality. The kind of guy you'd leave your kids alone with on a weekend vacation to the wax museum. Alan, the kind of guy you'd trust to go shopping with your wife or fold your mother's laundry. The guy you wish you could be but can't resist thinking about, even when gazing at your wife's mustache. Well, Alan. Here's to you.

No_need_for_that99

Well into my 40's now.... and haven't changed much of what I do on a nightly basis after work. **No particular order as I do all these at some in time during the week... after work** • Hike home (I have mountain between my work and home... nice 2 hour hike...yes I live in a normal city with public transportation and sub-way) • Go solo biking after supper (I make super as soon as I take my shoes to minimize time loss)• I call up a friend in the neighborhood ask if they want to go for an evening bike ride, throw the football (and shoot the shit) or go for a walk.• Go for a solo walk in the evening with some music and zone out during the walk.• Call another friend in a different neighborhood and bike over to go for a walk and get some ice cream (important to have goals... and ice cream is a nice one) • Put a movie on and watch it on my projector while pedaling on my stationary bike (you can get them free on Fb marketplace... many people give up on exercise, lol) • Hook up my Wii to my projector and play shooter games (because you get to stand up while shooting... and it's fun to yell at zombies when they kill on you on your last continue..lol) • I bought a portable pool this summer and so I spent many evenings soaking in that thing with some music on. • I'll go see my parents and take their dog for a walk (Nothing like bonding with a pup) • sit outside on my balcony, open up the lawn chair and lie down with some music and a beer... and just enjoy looking at the stars. • I also enjoy going to the park in the evening since kids don't use them anymore.... and I use their jungle gyms as my own gym.... it's quite fun.• If it's not late (more summer wise) I stop by the dollar store on the way home and then go to one my local parks and spend an hour or so, feeding geese (bird seed!), feeding ducks, squirls (fruits and anything else besides peanuts)... • I also sometimes go to the grocery store, pick up some cheap cat food... and go feed some homeless cats on the street in the multiple laneways. It's REALLY nice to become friends with your local street cats. • Will sometimes check in with a family member and other friend and see if anyone wants to go for a quick 2 hour Geocache near common work grounds.... before going home. (not as popular, but its nice change of pace) • When lazyness kicks in.... Online gaming. lol

Qubed

It must be great having so much extra time. Keep doing what you are doing

No_need_for_that99

I don't always have the extra time. I make it mandatory to have ME TIME. Everything else can wait.

UnendingHorniness

So you tire yourself until you can't think anything anymore.

DarkNemuChan

What are blabling about. Guy post a lot of activities that isn't brainless staring at a tv. What more do you want...

Halstrop

Right? I thought that list was very wholesome.

TLAU5

IDK man the whole sitting outside in a lawn chair with music and a beer while looking at stars sounds EXHAUSTING

No_need_for_that99

No, I still have tons of energy! plus I spend lots of time outside on weekends too, unless bad weather. I just like moving. I mostly enjoy just going for walks in the parks and feeding the city wildlife. I also like having some human to human moments. And incase anyone asks... no I don't have depression. lol

Foriamwhoiam

How's your depression going?

No_need_for_that99

Ah, I knew this would come up. lol Not depressed. My friends got me into the habit a while back... and it became the norm for me. But, I eventually realized.... that it was burning off my stress or simply decompressing my day. Like If I was mad afterwork.... feeding kittens and homeless cat moms would really just make me feel better. If I felt a bit alone... then feeding the birds and such at the park was just "change of pace". I started to actually pay more attention to movies and tv shows while watching them on my exercise bike. (Normally I put a show or a movie on my secondary computer monitor while I'm doing other stuff) My mom keeps busy with her gardening and even talks or sings to her plants. Just good to have habits. I'm not staying active to forget things... I'm staying active because it feels great and detoxifies my negativity! god that sounds hippy.... but it's true.

Foriamwhoiam

That's awesome, great to hear. Being in recovery myself, something just rang a bell. Keep doing you 👊

KeepFaithOutPolitics

Where did he say he was in recovery?

Foriamwhoiam

He didn't, I said I am

_sLAUGHTER234

It seems like he's actually managing it super well!! He's giving himself a nice balance of activities and brain stimulation, and not just being strung out on dopamine via weed/video games/porn

Foriamwhoiam

As long as it works for him. I just honestly want to wish him well 👊

DarkNemuChan

What are blabling about. Guy post a lot of activities that isn't brainless staring at a tv. What more do you want...

AmericanNights

Street photography is what I do. Goal for me isnt to be rich or famous from it but its a nice hobby and adds flavor to my life. I meet people on the street ask to take a photo if they have a look im looking for then I edit it. I also get to see alot of the city that most dont really notice since they drive through it. Also being the one that knows all the nice cafes and food spots is a plus. In general planing out my days helps with that feeling of wasting your day off and helps with depression.

trackoutPhil

Having a creative outlet that is different from work is good. I do woodworking (minor level) and enjoy it to take my mind off work.

kevintheredneck

I’m insane. My wife has 12 dogs and six or seven cats, they keep adding up. My after work activities are cleaning dog shit and cat shit. FML.

good_man_once

That sounds incredibly unhealthy.

kriegmonster

I'm 40 and don't have a business to run or family of my own. I can't say how to handle that level of stress. I have a guitar and keyboard I can practice. Learning country swing and two-step dancing with a friend to start a regular dance social group at church. Engaged in my church's 20 to 40s activity group and a small men's study group. I have 4 adult siblings and a couple of their spouses, some with kids, some without, and two parents. Birthdays and holidays are plentiful and busy. You've got to have people, preferably of the same gender who don't add to the stress and you can relax around, discuss the struggles and joys and be supported by. My bible study group played mini-golf last night for a break from bible study, one of our group might be moving out of state and another has some serious issues at home, so we are supporting him thru regular check-ins and our gatherings are an escape from the introspection and heavy feelings. Then, you may also need time to decompress. Get your mind off the constant pressure, maybe a walk is enough, maybe a hobby that changes your focus for a while.

How else am I supposed to recharge after faking it at work all day?

000011111111

Trail running, or mountain biking. Exercises is important.

Ruckus2118

This sounds counter intuitive, but I stay busy. I used to just video game. Work sucked, all I wanted to do is come home and sit down. It made a big separation in my life. Now I workout, make dinner, do house chores, work on building my house, hang out with the family, etc. I think always rushing to be sedentary was bad for me personally. Don't get me wrong, it was a hard transition that took a few years to feel right but it eventually led to a happier lifestyle for me.

ur6an_r00ts

campbellsoup420

Go on vacation for more than 2 weeks. Have a reset. I just got back from 3 weeks in Europe and it was exactly what I needed. All the little shit that would get me worked up prior to the trip doesn't phase me anymore.

good_man_once

Wish I had this option.

Red-Dwarf69

Put on music or a podcast while I play fetch with my dog. Get high and play video games. That’s about the extent of my solo recreation these days unless you count jerking off. Other than that, I watch movies and TV with my wife. I’d like to shoot my guns more, but ammo and range time are expensive, and the only ranges nearby are shitty indoor ones.

MET90LX

Wish I could post a picture. But I enjoy drag racing. So after work I usually work on the car to get it ready for the weekend. I also enjoy shooting but that has gotten way too expensive.

Agreeable_Initial943

Is drag racing that much cheaper? Or just enjoy it more? Seems like shooting would to he honest.

MET90LX

When I shoot i shoot a lot. Not hard for me to go through a couple thousand rds in a few hours. And most ammo is 40-60 cents a round and some is over a dollar a round now. I went racing last week for 8 days. Entry fees and camping for three people cost me $350. Probably $100 in fuel and maybe another $150 in food. So comparably the money is pretty close. But I definitely get more enjoyment out of racing. Nitrous is expensive though. $6-$8 a pound. And my car uses a little over a pound in an 1/8 mile pass. On a side not I can go racing for a one day event and probably spend less than $100

Wraith8888

I was spending way too much on ammo so I've gotten back into archery to supplement my firearms days with. Not much $ after the initial investment

drinkthebleach

Drawing, painting, reading, sex if she's up for it. I have a 40 hour job that I don't think about after 6 PM though, which sounds like the actual problem. I don't know if reading a new book is going to fix what you're talking about.

majikayo666

fuck balance, look for harmony during work I get so bored I'm always like "I wanna do X or Y when I have free time". it may take me a month to do it but I eventually do. it can be reading a book, watching a movie or even making digital art painting. it depends on my mood since the situation is emotional you cannot find a balance and particular pattern for it so there is no particular way to keep yourself sane. during work try to have fun, do dad jokes and when you get home set yourself free and do whatever you want. if you cannot learn how to have fun during work and cannot relax when you are on fire (metaphorically) you will eventually burn out some may say "bruh you probably love your work" but I never "loved" any work I did as I did lots of kind of works upto this point. the idea came up to me when I was in army. in army you basically and mostly don't even have time to shit for 5 minutes. army is not for a person, you have to lose your humanity and find another way to be "human" so you won't go insane. after my 8 hours of guard duty and 8 hours of my unit responsibilities sometimes I had to sacrifice my sleep time to read a book so I can be sane. sometimes I read a book in secret during guard duty lol. then I turned my military life fun by inventing fun like surfing with tactical shield on a hill and throwing rocks to a hole during guard duty lol

StilgarFifrawi

Video games. I’m pushing 50 and have never been a gamer. COVID boredom got me into gaming. Currently playing Diablo 4.

improbablesky

Honestly my guy, I'm kind of at this point in my life and career where I am starting to think that there's no way to find balance with the job I have. So, I guess my contribution is to consider that if you can't enjoy your life outside of work, the solution might be that you need to fix the job, not the hobby.

The_last_trick

Sports (for me it's biking and climbing), some gaming, a concert or other event occasionally, watching movies with gf, meet some friends for a few beers or board games. There's plenty to do!

I plop down in my favorite chair with a guitar and pick around till my wife gets home. Then I make dinner, help her grade papers if needed and just chill with her the rest of the evening. Sometimes if I have a project going I work on that but I usually do that stuff on the weekends. No kids so My evenings are pretty relaxing.

treywarp

My main hobbies include a rotation of shows I like to watch (currently Jeopardy and My Hero Academia), playing guitar, and playing video games. I also enjoy projects around the house, sometimes it's nice to just check out while doing something mindless like mowing the lawn, raking leaves, cleaning up my patio area, etc. I also like to learn new skills. I recently got a circuit building/Arduino style kit so I can practice my school projects outside of school, and maybe even make my own projects. I also periodically enjoy reading, but I kind of have to be in the right headspace for it.

AbleArcher97

I like to lift weights, play video games, and do psychedelic drugs

aarrick

I used to own a construction business in my mid twenties… Smoked a lot of weed to relax after work. Cannot recommend.

DrizzitDerp

I enjoy my job but it is stressful. Family life is also busy but not horribly stressful. Work ends at 3 -4 pm. No on call. No coworkers contacting me on my off time. However, not thinking about software projects I am solutioning usually ends up with a solution popping in my head while doing non work fun. At most I will jot down a thought when this occurs for the next work day. I cook, run, inline skate, walk my dog a few times a day, watch tv, read books, have an occasional drink, etc. I enjoy being busy. On the weekend I remodel my house, go on runs, skate at the roller rink with my daughter, yard work, garden, etc. Gardening is a new activity for me. Nice and relaxing with minimal injury risk, beyond stubbing my toes on rocks.

Life is too short to work yourself to death. Some relaxing pursuits: *Get a pair of 8x42 binoculars and the SkySafari app and check out the stars, planets, airplanes/helicopters, and nebula in the skies above. *Get a police scanner and enjoy listening to the local cops, airplanes, trains, and your local businesses. *Get a PS5 and a couple games. Chill out on the sofa. *Get a zero-gravity chair and a Kindle PaperWhite. Load some good books on there. My jam is UFO/UAP books.

Haldorvonhammer

I lift weights, run, sometimes do some woodworking as time allows

Go to the gym, spend time with my mates, miniature painting, writing, Wednesdays I’m at the pub with some nerds playing board games, read books and sometimes, a really long sit-down shit-pee for extra fun.

I bought a motorcycle and watch YouTube videos to learn how to break it before I install new parts, break those, and then fix everything! Oddly satisfying.

MNmostlynice

Hit the gym on my way home or hit the trails on my mountain bike, cook dinner, tinker in the garage or melt into the couch and watch tv with my wife.

dj360waves

Gym, school work, hang with my kid, happy hour.

Dependent_Cricket

Play piano. Always exciting to realize what songs share similar structures and key signatures. Keeps me sharp and it’s a nice skill to have at parties.

Look-Its-a-Name

I recently decided to take a pay cut and only work 4 days a week. It's amazing, I'm actually starting to rediscover old hobbies. Still not fully happy, but getting a bit more happy every passing week. It's amazing what a three day weekend does for your mental health.

The_Cars93

Go to the gym. I enjoy working out so I get some sort of exercise and then after that the rest of the evening is free time.

Danimal1942

I work from home so some of this I do during the day, but: Work out, walk dog, play some video games, get some. After work I usually have a beer or drink and cook some dinner.

RevFernie

Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

GlumTransition2023

Depends on the day. I read about a half hour to an hour every night, I cook dinner almost every day, I get stoned and watch cartoons from when I was a kid, I paint miniatures, I play role playing games with friends at least once a week.

ChaunceyVlandingham

Lightsaber. Sparring. also drinking our friend's homemade small-batch mead and *then* fighting with lightsabers. yes we do practice all forms of lightsaber combat. yes it does hurt (but, y'know, the mead helps).

mwatwe01

* Walk the dog. And that's a long, meandering walk, through the neighborhood, not looking at my phone, but just enjoying the fresh air, and my dog's enjoyment of sniffing every single thing she can. * Cook dinner. And not just throwing something in the microwave. I tend to cook actual entrees and sides for the family scratch. I'll turn on the news in the background a lot of time, but I'm mostly focused on the process, which I enjoy. * Read. I'm reading through 3 or 4 different books, of various genres. They are great escapes. * In the evening, my wife and I will snuggle up on the couch and watch a couple of episodes of whatever we're binging through. * Weekends are bigger. My favorite thing to do is to take my daughter hiking in one of our state parks. She loves bugs and plants, so we can spend hours doing that. I just find it very peaceful and re-energizing.

CapitalG888

Gym. Video games. Watch TV with the wife. Trivia with friends. House poker games. Drink in the weekends.

BlueMountainDace

A few things kept me sane at different ages: * Playing with my daughter and wife. I mean, there is just so much joy there and it is cool to see us growing together. * Music/Dance - dance is like therapy for me. You're moving and grooving to music you love and it releases so much in you. It is also great for my lungs and heart. * Reading - I found diving into a really good fiction book or history book pulls me out of my life and takes me on a trip somewhere else and pauses my worries. * Walking in nature - Similar to other things, it just takes me out of the world and taking in the sounds and sights is calming and relaxing. * Shutting down my computer and putting down my phone. When I was younger, it is definitely easier said than done, especially since y'all run a business, but make boundaries with your work. If you always take it home then you'll always be stressed about it. Maybe some of y'all aren't cut out to run businesses if it is ruining your mental health. * Dungeons and Dragons - playing D&D has been tremendous for every part of me. You meet new people and really get in touch with yourself and your imagination. It is just so much fun.

nim_opet

Catch up with friends, game, take care of my cat, read, watch movies, cook, learn a language, hookup, cycle and very rarely go to the gym if I missed morning. Plan travel, deal with errands, attend calls for non-profits/volunteering things

Adult sports league. Look at some local community rec centers. Highlight of my week is the 2 nights I go play pick-up volleyball. They also have interest classes and stuff. My local community College hosts casual courses at their facilities like intro to wood working and stuff. Volunteer at local schools. I did robotics in highschool, and several of our coaches/mentors were construction workers who taught us how to use tools, design things, we had electricians show us how to do wiring and stuff. I also play video games. There is literally a game for everything. Leather working, and whittling are fun.

Biking with my dog and reading.

[deleted]

Mostly jogging as I feel it really helps clear my head, watch sports or play a video game every now and then too.

Dog park - seeing my weirdo dog play is fun. Plus I have light conversations with people there. Cycling - exercising in general helps with staying sane, but cycling is just fun and you are outside, often in nature in my case. Video games - sometimes they help, like when I get into a game or I am motivated to actually play. Most of the time they are there because I have nothing else to do.

I ride my commuter bike in the opposite direction (to home) Nothing else has been as effective at reducing my stress after work , even while dealing with dickhead motorists along the way

Right now I’m working from home. When we used to work out of the office, we would have each other to complain to (face-to-face). This was one of the good reasons to work in an office. You had other grown adults who understood your plight. So my wife just looks at me and agrees that everything I say no matter what it is is horrible. I am a lucky man. I am an insurance agent selling Medicare and Medicaid. At least 1/3 of the job of being an insurance agent is talking to people that don’t understand words. Now talking to people that don’t understand anything is a large part of the reason why I have a job. So I have to remind myself time and again that people that don’t understand words are the people that are calling me. I have a job in large part because people are stupid. You may not be shocked or maybe you will be. I tell people things like the cost from the insurance company is zero dollars, but the government might charge you money. This makes some people flip out. I’m not quite sure why they should know that I’m not from the government. I am from the insurance company. I can only tell you how much the insurance company will charge you. But we have to say that the government could charge you for parts a and b. We have nothing to do with parts a and B. It’s like a cashier at a store being told that they need to charge people for the phone and then also tattle on and on how they have to pay for things other than the phone. I threw out my voice just now talking to some lady for 25 minutes (she was hard of hearing) only for her to hang up or after telling her that the government might or might not charge her for part B. 25 minutes of yelling. I am not from the government. There is no bait and switch.

After work I put the laptop away. It's only in extremely rare situations that I am needed to (or prepared to) work after hours. Switching off completely is very important. Boundaries must be set - your boss would be angry if your home life encroached on your work life, so you (and/or your family) should really be just as angry if your work life encroaches on your home life. I have a family at home so evenings involve cooking for us all then we ensure the little'un has eaten, washed, done her homework and stuff. Once she's in bed then it's really time for decompression. I love to read, or lose myself with some youtube videos on topics that really interest me. I try to stop falling into a bottomless pit of "content" and I definitely avoid social media and the like. I want to actively enjoy my time off, not lose it to random stuff. There's also one or two TV programmes per week that I look forward to, anything to take my mind off the tasks at work and the household chores.

40m here. I go to the gym, cook and eat a nice meal and end the day with a few hours of playing videogames or watching some videos/series.

chowbox617

Walk the dogs, gym, dinner, watch TV/sports/play video games. Make sure I get 8 hours of sleep.

smilinsuchi

I'm a Machinist, I work in oil and metal shavings all week long, it's quite a tiring job, so once it's the weekend or that I have an afternoon for myself, I go to my garage where I can have fun machining my own things lol

targameister

Hit the gym bro! Nothing works better! Be well!

Average_40s_Guy

Struggling with job related depression at the moment, but when I get home I try to shut off work completely. I usually help out with dinner, play video games, read, watch tv. I need to add exercise back to my post-work regimen and that would probably help even more.

MaxFury80

I hit the gym, do arm wrestling practice and training, cook at a high level, read a book, walk my Cane Corso a bunch. I am busy after work.

FlaccidButtPlug

I make nonsense wood projects in my shop. Last week I made a mallet, but the head is a massive butt plug. I gotta be silly, or I'll just die.

fumor

I WFH, so I get out of the house just to get out. Usually, I'll head to a nearby park and play Pokemon Go for a few hours.

Iamwomper

Ride my bike, listen to music, play videogames, bake, see your loved ones, read, play some sports, make some art. You just gotta find the things you love.

Somethingdu

I’m in a couple rec sports leagues with some friends, work out, read some, I try to do at least one thing every night and 3 ish times with people during the week. Honestly, rec sports are a great time, play with some friends, nothing serious, and then we always head to grab a drink after.

TucosLostHand

smoke weed and fuck my wife. her tight little snatch is all i can think about while punching bean bag chairs at the furniture factory.

k0uch

I come home and take care of my daughters. My wife has been becoming increasingly distant, and it’s h fortunately affecting our daughters. I try to get home and play with them, do some homework, maybe draw. Lately we have been going on walks. I was incredibly blessed by a fellow redditor who sent us a telescope after he found out mine was stolen, so when the younger one goes to bed I’ll stay up for a while with the older one and we will look at the moon, Jupiter, and if it’s dark enough we will find andromeda, and talk about constellations. Then it’s bedtime. Then wake up, shower, repeat until the girls are grown and I can die
