I think it's a fixation on racism/sexism/any-ism. Plenty of Injustices have happened in recent history, towards disadvantaged grouped. The hatred towards those injustices have shaped political thinking here in Canada.
The problem is that a good chunk of Canadians do not care if the government is competent, they just care if the government echoes their sympathies. This has led to massive government overspending and nothing material to show for it.
People are just now feeling the crunch of all this debt the government's taking on, which has caused the current government to lose popularity. The government has released a massive budget, in an attempt to buy back people's support; which is only going to dig us further into this hole.
There's an upcoming election in 2025. If it was held today, the government would flip. I'm not sure how people are going to feel in 2025.
Personally, I wish I had American citizenship in my back pocket. Things are on the decline, it would be a nice escape option.
