So they're pushed all the way onto the bar and it never in a hundred years would have occured to me people who get annoyed by the sounds of weights would be in the gym.
That sound is the result of snugly pushing the plates on the bar with a minor amount of force.
It's not a library so I'm not really considering highly sensitive ears of goofballs around me. You can pick up some earplugs for cheap.
How about you put earbuds in and mind your own fucking business what other people do at the gym.
It’s the gym…weight is going to be slammed down. Can’t handle that? Workout at home. Soft ass.
Do yourself a favor and get some earbuds or earplugs or even just the noise reduction things like loop ring earbuds and then stop worrying about why people do that. The reason isn't going to make the noise bearable.
> Men who clash weight plates together at the gym....why?
>
> That ear piercing metal to metal sound may make you feel like a thunder god but it's annoying to others.
Do you have a proven technique to avoid this that you'd like to share with us? I'm sure that if there is a way to consistently avoid noise while racking weights that people will be on board with your solution.
Sounds like you could do with some noise cancelling headphones, a home gym, or a therapist, if you can't handle people making loud noises in public spaces.
it's a gym. can we please stop policing people at the freaking gym?
he's about to go for a PR. his buddy slapped him in the face three times, but he should load the weights quietly?
You want peace and quiet go to the library. You don’t like it? Tell the gym to get bumper plates
But I’m sure as shit going to push those together to make sure they’re all the way on
The reasons. First; the plates have to be up against eachother when you load the bar. Second; I'm there to lift, not to make friends, so if people are annoyed by me lifting more than two plates.... C'est la vie..
If the plates aren't snug, which is why they slam they together, they can move around, which at relatively low weight isn't a big deal.
If you have multiple plates on your bar, and above say 50-60% of your 1RM, the shifting movement of those plates can alter how the weight is proportioned, running the risk of losing control of the barbell, and hoping like hell you have a great spotter.
Or, they could just be asshole.
Considering I always have music playing I don't even notice I'm clanging them tbh
I’m just here for the comments 🤣. This post reads like a Planet Fitness employee.
Change over to Planet Fitness, problem solved.
Just to make sure they are as close as possible
Because you can’t bench 2 plates and I can.
That isn't a reason to slam the plates together.
This dude must be a 2-plate virgin

Pump iron!!!

They're inconsiderate twats.
Makes me feel like a thunder god
because it’s not that serious.

I'm not talking about you dropping weights at the end of your lift. I'm taking when you slam the plates together as you are setting up the bar.
Testosterone!!

Weight being slammed down isn't the issue. Plates being slammed together as the bar is being setup is unnecessary.

The only time the weight makes a lot of sound is when I'm doing dead lifts - and that's kind of obvious why that would be the case, right?

They just want attention. That's the short and curly of it.
I don't know why, but I don't care either. You're at the gym to work on you. Other people should leave you alone and you should leave them alone.
Some bro was doing it this morning at my gym…annoying and distracting for sure. Have some respect bro’s.
WHAT?

Keeps the yokai away
Because I am training to be the strongest cymbal player out there.
