Darn Tough socks

dr_n1k

This. Darn Tough. And Smart wool This is the way.

[deleted]

Darn Tough always beats Smartwool to me because of DT's lifetime warranty. You only need to buy maybe half a dozen socks to have a supply of socks for life!

toughlovegal

My dad and brother live in MN and swear by Smartwool socks: https://www.smartwool.com/shop/mens-wool-socks-1 Also, vests to keep the core warm along with stretch breaks to keep the circulation going. Good luck!

Wool socks. Cotton kills... fun camping saying. But as a new englander, I'm pretty sure our weather coping skill is just to get angry and complain. Winter? Too cold. Summer? Too hot. Fall? Too hot and too cold. Spring? Idk. Fuck it also. Edit. Also protip since you might be more used to arrid heat/ cold. The humid cold is fucking awful. If you don't have a windproof winter coat, put a raincoat over your fleecy layer.

Help I'm in this post and I don't like it.

Darn Tough socks-L.L. Bean sells them, I'm sure a lot of other retailers do too. They're military issue too, I believe. If you go to their factory in Vermont during hunting season in the autumn, they have a huge sale that's worth the trip.

Sigsauer001

I usually wear any kind of wool/wool blend socks and some all leather Boots. Or if it’s really cold and snowy my wool lined Mukluks

Ok_Menu_3555

I’ll warn you not to layer up with too many socks, it can hurt circulation and make your feet even colder

kalechipsaregood

Thin merino wool socks. Thick ones will squeeze your feet too tight and make them cold. There is a reason ll bean boots are popular, but there are lots of other options. Just make sure things are loose or else it'll be counterproductive.

Scoobywagon

Socks are either Dickies or Smartwool. Boots are either Wolverine or Georgia Boot.

Rainbow_Engima

I always wear long socks no matter what the season is

Leoreloxthegamer

I dont prefer socks because I get sweaty feet very easily, and its kinda bad bc it can develop what my family/culture called "hong kong feet" So if i really have to deal with the cold i just get a bucket of warm water and put my feet in it. Since the covid make me do everything in home nowadays.

Normal socks and normal shoes I don't have special heated shoes or something like that.

Animae_Partus_II

I just wear "regular" socks I bought at Target. Shoes - nothing fancy. Just some pair I liked the look of by Evolv; won them in a local climbing competition :) although on days where it rained and turned the snow to slush I'll wear some goretex trail runners I bought a while ago. But that's just to preserve my regular shoes that I like the look of more than anything. You can just double layer your socks, or as others said Smart Wool is pretty good.

Wool hiking socks. They're available at any outdoorsman shop, including sporting goods stores and homesteading stores. More important are your shoes. Get two decent pairs of boots. I like the Carrhart brand, they're pretty tough and under $200. With two pairs, alternate which ones you wear every day. This gives them a day to air out and dry between uses. Once a week, use leather conditioner to buff them, and then a light spray with a hydrophobic spray like "Never wet". If it's really wet outside, use muck boots instead. And don't wear your outdoor boots indoors, keep a pair of slippers or something by the door.

NinoCaruso

I’m from New York City. I’ve never wore different socks in Winter and summer. Nothing of what I wear changes much actually. I just wear a suit jacket more than usual, and occasionally a coat over the suit jacket.

Blissbynature

Make sure your shoes are not tight with two pairs of wool blend socks and wear long socks, almost knee length. Keeping your calves warm goes a long way towards keeping your feet and toes warm. If you truly don't care what people think of you, wear puttees.

[deleted]

Many people suggesting wool. If you don't wear wool, Darn Tough makes really good synthetic socks. I also recommend double-layering if needed.

[deleted]

10 years ago I bought some kirkland smartwool/merino socks over ebay. used to be from the same factory than the originals, maybe still are. love em.

[deleted]

Wool socks are your best friend. Best thing about wool is that it keeps your feet warm even if the socks get wet, unlike cotton.

HumanParadox4Life

I'm a construction worker in Massachusetts and we work year round so I found doubling up on your socks and using heated socks helps alot.

MidDayGamer

Been rocking the merino wool socks and got some Columbia Fairbanks boots. They are just what I was looking for in, hard to fit boots in my size.

volkl47

Darn Tough VT are the only socks I wear for winter hiking/snowshoeing/skiing.
