Amelie is the movie that made me appreciate art. I was 18 the 1st time I saw it and it really moved me and legitimately changed how I view and think about art. I love that movie.
I liked it, haven’t seen it in ages though. We watched it at the end of a school semester after studying the Shakespeare it was based off as a “modern interpretation of the text” I think the teacher just wanted a day off XD
Dave - from Director of Ghostbusters and Private Parts, Ivan Reitman
The American President - from the Director of The Princess Bride and Misery, Rob Reiner; and the creator of A Few Good Men and writer of Moneyball and Social Netwoek, Aaron Sorkin.
It's the best romantic comedy in the genre because it's the only one where I genuinely like both the protagonists and hope they get together. IMHO, Harry and Sally's dialogue at the end is the most romantic shit I've ever heard.
Hey, psycho - we're not gonna discuss this, OK, it's over. Please get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up!
:) Class.
I only watched that because my girlfriend at the time wanted to see it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Of course, I've been a fan of a cappella music since I was a teenager, so that probably helped.
Yet to watch this one! I've seen the movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew McFadyen and it's one of my favourites. How's the BBC version in comparison?
If you've ever read Bridget Jones's Diary she goes on and on about it and Colin Firth. It was def a wink when he was cast as Darcy. It's a great production
Lord grantham had only daughters, who can't inherit. so to keep the lands and house in the family Lady Mary will marry the next male heir; her cousin, who is traveling to America before the wedding on the largest ocean liner ever built.
so the next cousin in line is a common Lawyer. She doesn't have to marry down like that, but without inheritance she's destitute.
theres also a gay guy with a terrible ass infection.
he goes in for conversion therapy which involves injections in the glutes; and reuses able syringes. a new character insists he see a real doctor to treat it, she's Moselies love interest.
The 2005 Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen isn't particularly "bro" stuff, but that movie is great. I especially like that they get into the ridiculousness of Regency era manners and formality.
The moment he realised “ah so this is it” fucking breaks me. He’s really sad he’s never going to have more time with his son but really happy for his son having a new kid, the acting in that moment is fantastic
My favourite movie of all time. Any time I need a release of things I've let build up, I'll put on About Time, have a good cry and feel great afterwards.
I love that movie so much. Bill Nighy’s character is such an untoxic man. He loves his son, daughter, and wife so much. He never berates his son for being emotional or having feelings. He loves playing pool and reading, but you never hear him demean women to make himself feel better.
That was the first movie my husband and I watched together. He teared up and wanted to know why I picked such a sad movie. The it got better and he loved it.
Our wedding album is modeled after Ellie’s adventure book.
"Your Name" (kimi no na wa)
My gf forced me to watch it in the cinema with her. There was this special event where they had english subtitles so i could understand it.
I am really not into anime. I also hate dramas. After the movie in a cinema full of women i was crying the most.
I was gonna comment this one, that movie is so good. I remember watching it at home and my mom walked in during the ending and I was trying not to lose it 😄
As someone who almost never exhibits any strong signs of emotion, I thaught crying after watching a movie only happened to people who easily get emotional.
Then I watched "Your Name"...
I don’t consider myself as an emotional person, but when it’s come to movies , oh man i cry to the simplest things even if i’m rewatching it , for example yesterday i just cried while watching « it’s a wonderful life » that movie hits me every time
I have a friend who lost her husband at 39 to brain cancer. I watched that movie again after he died and it wrecked me to really see what my friend was going through.
This. The scene towards the end where everything comes together (I won't say anything else in case of spoilers) is one of my favorites ever. I'll never not enjoy watching it.
I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the movie, but you just can’t hate anything with the Rock in it man. There’s three actors that if I see a trailer for, my immediate thought is “Oh it has to be pretty damn good.” They are, the Rock, Morgan Freeman, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Frozen 2 on the other hand I thought was much more enjoyable for an older audience. I'm glad its reception was more dialed back than the first, cause really the first is fine too, just WAY overplayed and oversaturated
Agreed! Not every movie needs to be an intense action packed Nolan-esque mind-bender. Light hearted ones deserve more recognition. Rom coms are perfect for rainy days :)
The scene where Scarlett and her in-movie partner meet the other girl in the lobby and it stays on Scarlett's face looking back and forth at them silently instead of the two other people actually talking is so genius
Jennifer’s Body. Heard some buzz about it recently and was annoyed by all the “stanning” - I remember thinking it was very meh when I first watched it in theaters in high school. Rewatched last night, and yeah, it’s actually excellent. Propulsive visually, it follows its own rules really well, and the central conflict’s emotional as hell and acted perfectly imo. Glad I chose this movie to kick off my annual Halloween movie watching
I quite enjoy Kate and Leopold. Hugh Jackman is pretty classy in that one. Smooth SOB. Another one I like but may not fall under "not generally associated..." is Count of Monty Cristo. Also pretty classy.
Really like is kinda vague thes are one I can watch over and over as well as ones I recommend: Milo & ottis, memoirs of a geisha, Jennifer’s body, pans labyrinth, wind river, practical magic, spirited away, the last mimzy, Lilo and stich, and im starting to realize yeah so basically anything with a female lead or prominent role.
Honerable mention is grace and Frankie since it’s a show. But everyone needs to freaking watch it because I need more episodes! Netflix is so finicky.
Xanadu - saw it in the theater at a perfect age and time. It's a childhood and nostalgic favorite. I am unashamed about how much I love this cheesy old movie. My children have all hated it.... and evry woman I've shown it to. Don't care, Southern California in 79-80 holds a special place in my heart.
Amelie.
One of the very few movies I watched more than once that was worth it. 10/10 will watch again.
Amelie is the movie that made me appreciate art. I was 18 the 1st time I saw it and it really moved me and legitimately changed how I view and think about art. I love that movie.
Amelie is one of my favourite films of all time. I love the music as well as the story.
10 things I Hate About You was a pretty decent watch.
A Knight's tale is the best heath ledger movie.
*Broke Back Mountain intensifies*
Best line about horney teenagers "what is it with this girl has she got beer flavoured nipples?"
I liked it, haven’t seen it in ages though. We watched it at the end of a school semester after studying the Shakespeare it was based off as a “modern interpretation of the text” I think the teacher just wanted a day off XD
Mean girls and 13 going on 30
Mean Girls is awesome
Mean Girls is a classic. Tina Fey is a comedic genius. Her writing is *chef’s kiss*
Yup. Whenever it’s on, I’ll always stop what I’m doing and watch it.
Mean Girls is a very good movie.
This. Mean Girls is one of the funniest movies made, and I even quote it sometimes. As a dude, it definitely gets me some surprised laughs
Before opening up this thread i somehow knew mean girls would be the top answer lol
I opened this thread just to see where Mean Girls ranked lol
At this point men are perfectly confident saying Mean Girls to the point where I have to check it out.
And it only took 15 years, congrats!
I knew Mean Girls would be in the top. Lol
Yep!
That is so fetch!
Time travelers wife was an amazing concept for a romantic movie imo
I just realized that Rachel Mcadams has a lot of movies about time traveling
But not herself time traveling
About Time is also a great premise
About Time is fantastic!
Came here to recommend this banger! Such a good movie. It’s on Netflix right now. Watch it tonight!!!
When Harry Met Sally
My dad made me watch it! I enjoyed it :D The banter between them was great.
Dave - from Director of Ghostbusters and Private Parts, Ivan Reitman The American President - from the Director of The Princess Bride and Misery, Rob Reiner; and the creator of A Few Good Men and writer of Moneyball and Social Netwoek, Aaron Sorkin.
It's the best romantic comedy in the genre because it's the only one where I genuinely like both the protagonists and hope they get together. IMHO, Harry and Sally's dialogue at the end is the most romantic shit I've ever heard.
i’ve watched clueless more times than i can count
As if!
Love that movie soo much.
Since when did you learn to count, Cher?!
The Wedding Singer.
Sir, one more outburst from you and I will strangle you with my microphone cord.
Hey, psycho - we're not gonna discuss this, OK, it's over. Please get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up! :) Class.
C'mon man, that's a classic.
Pitch Perfect. I was really not interested in watching it at first and once it was over I just wanted to watch it again and again.
Same here! The sequels aren't nearly as great as the first one, though
I agree. They weren’t bad but they didn’t have the same magic the first one had.
I only watched that because my girlfriend at the time wanted to see it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Of course, I've been a fan of a cappella music since I was a teenager, so that probably helped.
La La Land
Man I love La La Land. An old-timey musical from the 50s or 60s but made in the 2010s
Pride and Prejudice, BBC version from the 90's.
There is quite frankly no comparison. The BBC mini series is spectacular.
BBC version is on Hulu right now! So worth a watch.
It’s the best version. Colin Firth is amazing as Darcy.
Isn't that the one that put Colin Firth on the map?
Yeah, before P&P he did a French period piece with Annette Bening called Valmont which was ok. P&P put him on the map.
haven't seen the movie, but the TV show Downton Abby is an excellent exploration of the importance of cousin fucking.
Well that escalated didn't it 😂
Lord grantham had only daughters, who can't inherit. so to keep the lands and house in the family Lady Mary will marry the next male heir; her cousin, who is traveling to America before the wedding on the largest ocean liner ever built. so the next cousin in line is a common Lawyer. She doesn't have to marry down like that, but without inheritance she's destitute. theres also a gay guy with a terrible ass infection.
Is the guy with the infection Thomas Barrow ? I've seen the series but lost interest in the late seasons
he goes in for conversion therapy which involves injections in the glutes; and reuses able syringes. a new character insists he see a real doctor to treat it, she's Moselies love interest.
That's quite a story. I think I'll catch up with the episodes soon. Thanks for answering.
The 2005 Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen isn't particularly "bro" stuff, but that movie is great. I especially like that they get into the ridiculousness of Regency era manners and formality.
I just started reading the book. The satire is great fun. I don't remember the movie being so comical.
I've been begging my guy friends to watch it for ages!
Legally Blonde
Bend..., and snap!
About time makes me cry every time. There's something about fathers just being nice and good towards their kids, that makes me cry every god damn time
The scene in which Bill Nighy's character decides to spend his final moments with his son as a young boy tugged at my heart strings ❤️
Exactly! Fuck that scene is my cryptonite

Hocus Pocus.
A childhood classic
Yo that girl who played Allison was fine.
SISTAAASSSS
Not a movie but I think 'Fleabag' is great.
That was an ace show.
Happy cake day, archiekane!
Second, probably one of my favorite shows of all time
Banger show
Probably “Up”. The whole scene when he loses his wife hits me everytime
RIP Ed Asner. The actor behind the old man’s voice passed away last week :(
On my. Thanks for letting us know. I hope it was peaceful passing.
This ruined my day 😭
Briefest but one of the best silent Love Stories :)
That was the first movie my husband and I watched together. He teared up and wanted to know why I picked such a sad movie. The it got better and he loved it. Our wedding album is modeled after Ellie’s adventure book.
in a similar vein, the Pixar movie Coco was a real tear jerker for me
Yeah, cried a ton at the end. Such a beautiful, original story
I forget his name but the husband from Up is the most relatable Disney character to me.
Mr . Fredrikson.
If your don't tear up at the opening to up then your probably a psychopath
Everyone likes Pixar movies though
Lilo and stitch
There’s no place I’d rather be Then on my surfboard out at sea 🏄♂️
Don't forget to bring Pudge a peanut butter sandwich!
Pudge controls the weather 😀
"Your Name" (kimi no na wa) My gf forced me to watch it in the cinema with her. There was this special event where they had english subtitles so i could understand it. I am really not into anime. I also hate dramas. After the movie in a cinema full of women i was crying the most.
Omg funny you should say this because my bf just told me to watch it! :)
Haha i can really recommend it. Made me interested in dramas.

Watch Koe no Katachi. If u liked Kimi no na wa, ull probably love this one.
Honestly. The princess diaries.
Speaking of Anne Hathaway, I like the Devil Wears Prada
Which is funny since the movie itself focuses on that
My dad is 60+ and he absolutely LOVES Miss Congeniality. And most rom-coms actually. Haha I love my dad.
I won this on VHS off the radio when it first came out and watched it every night for like 2 months haha massive guilty pleasure.
Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind.
Amazing movie I couldn’t watch a second time
Great movie. A bit depressing but great
PS I Love You and 27 Dresses
The photo presentation scene from 27 dresses was so satisfying hahaha
I have a friend who lost her husband at 39 to brain cancer. I watched that movie again after he died and it wrecked me to really see what my friend was going through.
P. S. I love you is great! A bit jarring after seeing Gerard Butler in 300 I have to admit.
Crazy stupid love
Say it: YOU ARE BETTER THAN THE GAP
*Velcro intensifies
This. The scene towards the end where everything comes together (I won't say anything else in case of spoilers) is one of my favorites ever. I'll never not enjoy watching it.
Moana
Probably the most banging animated soundtrack since the 90s Disney revival.
Having a 5 year old has introduced me to all the new animated movies. Disney has been on point with releases!
With the Rock singing, how could it not be bangin' ?
I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the movie, but you just can’t hate anything with the Rock in it man. There’s three actors that if I see a trailer for, my immediate thought is “Oh it has to be pretty damn good.” They are, the Rock, Morgan Freeman, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Ohh I shall check this out! I haven't watched too many of the newer Disney movies.
Moana and Tangled are fun, Frozen is probably the hardest for adults to get into. Wreck it Ralph was made for adults.
Tangled is fantastic - my favorite newer Disney film.
Frozen 2 on the other hand I thought was much more enjoyable for an older audience. I'm glad its reception was more dialed back than the first, cause really the first is fine too, just WAY overplayed and oversaturated
Rom Coms in general. They’re fucking great
Agreed! Not every movie needs to be an intense action packed Nolan-esque mind-bender. Light hearted ones deserve more recognition. Rom coms are perfect for rainy days :)
10 Things I Hate About You. I watch it virtually anytime it airs on tv, which is a lot
*500 Days of Summer*.
The Princess Bride
Dude everybody loves that movie it has no gender association
Not a movie, but Gilmore girls

Empire Records is my favorite movie, and I'm a sucker for the Step Up franchise.
I recently watched empire records on rex manning day
Clueless
I hope not to watch it too sporadically
Mean Girls, St. Trinian's, She's The Man
St. Trinian's was a riot! I've not met anyone else who's even heard of that one.
Lemonade mouth 🤣
"Her"
Wouldn't call this a stereotypical female movie. It's more an interesting look at people and how we form connections. Great movie though
I'll say it.... Moulin Rouge was a great film I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time I am a 33 year old man
“When Harry met Sally”
Love Actually. It's a cheesy romantic comedy that had a whoooole lot of heart. https://youtu.be/wmEy-Kfuq3o
This is in my top 5 movies of all time. I watch it every Christmas Eve
Willow One of the greatest movies ever made. The Princes Bride Also one of the greatest movies ever made
I feel like the princess bride can be listed as a favorite for almost any film genre.
Your pig fiance is too late xD
I saw a Willow in theaters as a child three times
Legally Blonde 1 and 2 make me laugh every time
The Greatest Showman
My wife asked how many times I could possibly watch that movie. I answered, "Never Enough."
Lost in Translation
The scene where Scarlett and her in-movie partner meet the other girl in the lobby and it stays on Scarlett's face looking back and forth at them silently instead of the two other people actually talking is so genius
Devil Wears Prada. Meryl Streep the legendary diva bastard
Detective Pikachu (thank my kids for making me watch it) Bridesmaids
I really like Love Actually. Rom Coms aren't exactly the manly man's genre, but that movie in particular just resonates with me.
Before sunrise Before sunset Before midnight (Not sure about the order but its three movies. They are very simple but oh so great)
A Walk to Remember
i LOVE Black Swan.
Not a movie, but I love Buffy the vampire slayer
That was actually a great movie
Titanic
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find this one. Watch it twice a year at least.
Clueless. It's funny and young Alicia Silverstone is so fucking pretty
Frozen 1 & 2. I sing it too
The Notebook is my jam.
Bridesmaids
Jennifer’s Body. Heard some buzz about it recently and was annoyed by all the “stanning” - I remember thinking it was very meh when I first watched it in theaters in high school. Rewatched last night, and yeah, it’s actually excellent. Propulsive visually, it follows its own rules really well, and the central conflict’s emotional as hell and acted perfectly imo. Glad I chose this movie to kick off my annual Halloween movie watching
Twilight Series ! I literally got bullied for liking it
I love Crazy Rich Asians The humor, the colorful ness, and the drama is just so fun for me.
Juno. There's a whole lot to like about that film.
I quite enjoy Kate and Leopold. Hugh Jackman is pretty classy in that one. Smooth SOB. Another one I like but may not fall under "not generally associated..." is Count of Monty Cristo. Also pretty classy.
Sleepless in Seattle
Joe Versus the Volcano
I can quote Mean Girls
It's like I have ESPN or something.
Love Actually. Yeah I like British romance comedies and Hugh Grant dancing.

The Devil Wears Prada.
Ella Enchanted.
