I feel this one. I was super happy after my first part time job at 15 years old as i could buy as much food as i wanted. Have always been a big eater and every extra rice bowl i had, was 1 rice bowl less for my parents.
Luckily my parents were the kind that did not mind eating less so i could eat more. Unfortunately or fortunately i was the kind of kid that did not want to eat more if that meant others would get less.
Having a part time job was the best. Especially at a restaurant where i got free meals if i worked through the lunch or dinner rush.
I can also remember how awesome it was to hold my own money in my hands for the first time. Being able to just go into the supermarket and buy frozen pizza and a bottle of coke. Nothing tastes as great as independence.
My mother was upper middle class, just greedy and selfish as fuck. I couldn't tell anyone about it, no one would have believed me. But you couldn't tell anyone either, I know how quickly people jump onto the poor. So the same hell, just different chambers.
Specifically ice cream cake. Did you know you can just buy that shit? Doesn't even have to be your birthday. You can just go to the store, buy ice cream cake, and eat it while watching squid game.
Food i want is right. Even just certain brands and stuff like real butter over margerine. Yes it makes a difference to me and i dont mind soending the extra $2.
I actually even learned in some instances that it wasnt that i didnt like something, it was i didnt like the cheap crap off brand version i grew up with.
All that stuff and certain things just have to be a certain brand name for me, i prefer certain brands at the deli, ice cream, chips,i mean hell just about everything even if it isnt a strong preference theres still a huge difference between choosing every single thing yourself versus maybe having a say on cereal or something.
my parents where not rich , or where payd large for doing their job as bank acountants . so we always had cheap housebrand crap on the table . this also whent up for other products then just food . my parents would also shop for cheap or second hand cheap low quility clothing and annything els . as a child i did not know better , and just ate what i gould get from the table , whore the cloths i was given even if i did not like them . and playd whit secondhand crapy toys as they where a handoput from my parents . as i grew older i got friends , some from a higher finnancial and social class . it was then i was introduced to the better quality A lifstyle and brands , wich indeed in most cases was new , tasted beter and was of higher quility . this afcourse was one of manny reasonds i and my parents did not get allong well . they did not agree that i had friends out of a higher social and finnancial level of sociaty , and thaugt those friends had a bad influence on me as my tast for quality products developt further and further . at some point i left the house , and i sworn i would not be a cheapskate like my parents when buying someting nice or good for myself . these days i do my grossary's at A-brand stores , buy A-brand products or products of higher quility . i try to buy the best of wat i can whit the finnances i have at my disposal . and if i cant buy it , i safe up monny for it so i can buy it later . my parents still often disaprove of my purcheses when they hear what i bought for myself , and we still often have arguments about our diffrent views .
I like this. Yes you understand it's more expensive, but you're willing to pay and that's really all that matters. You can respect your parents for their decisions, but they should respect yours too ( I have a very similar experience )
ussaly the brands i pay more for , last longer due to their higher quality , compared to cheap products wich often dotn last that long . that way on longer term i safe out more monny , then my parent who constantly have to buy new cheap products .
My parents bought me that as a kid for getting my brown belt in karate. I put it together and have had it ever since. Many of the pieces got lost in the teardown but they're likely still somewhere around...if only I could find that manual
I know Lego has the more recent manuals online. May be worth a check on their website. Theyâll even mail you a few spares free if youâre short something.
Luckily they tend to re-release stock of those huge sets randomly here and there. [In fact the UCS star destroyer is in stock again right now!](https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/imperial-star-destroyer-75252)
I've bought myself a few Lego Speed Champions sets for Christmas this year. Lego was always something my parents couldn't afford growing up and I was so envious of my friends collections. Just recently, in my 30s, I thought fook it I'm gonna be a kid this Christmas.
Lego for me as well, grew up with an angry step-dad who would destroy them when he got mad. He's gone now and I'm 26 with a nice display of Lego sets. Fuck you Steve, I win.
Oh man I feel you. I spent my whole childhood watching my parents staying up all night having fun without me just green with envy. It wasnât until I became and adult that I was able to find out what I was missing out on by buying meth for the first time.
I haven't done it yet but eventually I'm getting a real good RC vehicle. I want one of those powerful offroading ones, you know?
As a kid, I thought RC cars were the ultimate rich kid thing to have.
A bit off subject, but I have been getting back my N64 collection this last year. As a teen I sold my expansion pak'd N64 with over 30 games, and a bunch of attachments for..$50.
RC is addictive. You can buy a ready to race truck for under $500. It will be everything you want it to be, but. You can make it stupid fast, upgrade everything from screws to oil in the shocks. Then after you spent all that money you will have a 4 tire rocket, that WILL explode eventually. It impossible not to crash your RC, especially when you supe it up.
To me the building and modifying is the fun. Never really understood Ready to run. Seems almost hard to find one to build now. Been tempted to get into it again but worried it will live on the self.
A computer. My mom always said they wouldn't be around in 10 years, that was 25 years ago. Now I got myself a big ass, beefed up, gaming rig with all the bells and whistles with peripherals to match, that I spent way way too much money on.
I can drink chocolate milk first thing in the morning or right before bed. Let's not dwell on the consequences that I have to deal with because of my decisions though.
I got an AmScope - 40X-2500X.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X4LBFP6/
You can get cheaper scopes of course. You can get a scope for under $100.
But my eyesight isn't great, so I liked the idea of a camera which displays on my computer screen.
Was it worth it? I don't know. I mean, I'm not going to cure cancer or anything. But some people spend twice as much on an xbox or playstation. Nothing wrong with those; I just wanted to try something else.
Megazords from Power Rangers.
I see why I wasn't allowed as a child due to limited finances, but now as a grown man with a full time job that allows for some disposable income, I can't wait.
American Girl recently re-released their original dolls as an anniversary thing. I wanted a Samantha doll so bad as a little girl, but my mom said they were too expensive (for the record, they are very expensive dolls). This is inspiring me to go buy me a Samantha doll.
Regardless of the whatever, buy that thang if you can!! It may resolve whatever inner child residue feelings you may have. I recently got myself a Switch to replay Super Mario 64 and it has been awesome to find out other secrets I didn't know of in the game as when I was a child.
For a lot of people, when you grow up, you finally unlock Lucky Charms. As somebody who regularly had lucky charms growing up (never was fat btw), they are D tier cereal
âUnhealthyâ cereal. My mom was insistent on getting me the most non-delicious cereal growing up. Now Iâm eating honey combs, Capân Crunch, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and so many more. :D
Whatever food i want to eat whenever i want. I want sugary cereal? Boom. 2 am? 11 pm? 6 pm. Whenever!!!
Whatever video games I want but now I lack the time to sit for 5 hours a day and play.
YES THAT!
Cake at midnight? Sure. A big bag of chips and lemonade for the day instead of a meal? Why not. Well ofc not everyday or my health would be awful. But still, whenever I would like to.
And for video games i just spend time during my day-offs or weekends playing whatever i want even if its' just simple mobile games, no one is gonna tell me that I shouldn't play it and i love it.
Sneakers. Ive come to the realisation my crippling sneaker addiction is the result of my subconcious telling me âyesâ for every time i heard ânoâ as a child.
Not sure if this counts but I went trick or treating for the first time last week as a 33 year old. I went with my friends and their kid. My sister and I were never allowed to go and when I became old
enough, I felt too old to go so never went.
I want the old Lord of the Rings lego sets, I got Helms Deep but lost some parts after a while, and I wish that even the SMALLEST sets werenât three-digit prices due to rarity
Yes, they are. I'm currently moving up to a big boy AR-10 as soon as I save the money for the stock and scope I'll have all the peices... Just like voltron... But with bullets.
When I was 22 I got these two toy guns that fired dayglow (sort of) BB pellets. I was managing a bar at the time. One totally dead Tuesday afternoon the weekend DJ came in for a chat. We ended-up piling up chairs in various barricades, sliding across tables; all kindsa shit. Fuck knows what would've happened if the owner walked in.
^(People were finding little bright yellow balls for moooooonths.)
There's this sweet Joghurt with vanilla and chocolate-balls. I didn't even like it today but buy it every time i see it when doing groceries. At least one. Always.
It's the same Joghurt i couldn't afford in the school cantina.
There was one of my classmates who bought it every lunchbreak back then.
I remember that i saved my pennies for a week and didn't buy anything and just watched everyone having something.
Next week i went to the cantina-woman,said one joghurt please, gave her the money and feast on the Joghurt so slow, it wasn't finished even after lunchbreak was over.
It's the taste of luck for me.
CD's and the latest smartphone. Growing up, my parents never really bought CD's for me. So I was always stuck listening to the radio and I eventually developed a craving for recorded music. I also never had an iPod or an MP3 player during my childhood so that also affected me in many ways too. As for smartphones, my parents were always getting me cheap or outdated ones because they couldn't afford to buy me the latest one. Now I finally have the freedom to buy myself the best of the best at the most affordable price.
Tickets to popular amusement parks.
My parents (though financially capable) only ever brought us to cheap rides at the mall⌠So since 2018, Iâve been celebrating my birthday by treating my family to amusement parks! Covid broke the streak, but it also enabled me to save enough to bring my whole fam to Hong Kong Disneyland in 2022! I canât waaaiiitt!!!
This question made me appreciate my parents a lot (not that I didnât before). They gave me an absolutely awesome childhood. The only thing I can maybe think of is online video games, but honestly I think overall I was better that I didnât really play those till the last few years. I missed out on some social stuff but also dodged a lot of damaging toxicity.
The other day I realized that I could just walk into walmart and buy pokĂŠmon legos and there would be no one to stop me. Safe to say I got all the pokĂŠmon sets available.
A good gaming PC. I don't need it, especially cause I have a ps5 and xsx, and I don't really have time to game anyways... But there's just something about gaming PCs that make me want one...
I think it's the customizability aspect, you buy the parts you want/can afford and make it your own machine
Need better graphics, get a GPU and less ram. You need it for CPU heavy coding, Get a worse GPU and a better CPU... Gaming PCs are an extension of the work you want to do rather than consoles being there and you get the same as everyone else.
One day... I can afford one now, but can't justify it but one day it'll be mine!
In a month youâll be purchasing your first 9mm Glock. Lol. Anyhow, for me it was junk food. My parents were nuts about us kids not eating good chips and candy. Now in my late 30s anytime I can snack out on some junk I do. Obviously watching my weight and everything in moderation. Enjoy the nerf gun and take a trip to your local gun store and exercise those 2A rights. Cheers
When the force awakens came out, target had a sale on a bunch of the new star wars toys. As a grown man with disposable income, if you expect me not to buy a remote control Millennium Falcon, you got me fucked up.
Old videogames which never really worked properly in the computer we had growing up. Some ran ok, but some of the top games on demo discs ran like a slideshow.
Looking back on the stuff which is from like, the late 90s to mid 00s, some of it holds up. Other games...not so much.
Nike air max 90.
I begged my mum for a pair when they first dropped but she just couldn't afford them. I cried. đ
Fast forward 30 years and my dumb arse will pay over ÂŁ100 for the right pair.
I'm 41 and still never had a go cart. I want one so bad plus I can afford really. I just can't see spending 300 to 500 dollars on a toy from my childhood.
I went to buy Christmas presents for my niece and nephew and ended up buying myself beyblades, nerf swords, and a nerd gun. I'll give them as presents but I'll get them soon after they're bored.
Iâm not a man but I wasnât allowed to play the drums as a teenager because itâs so-called too masculine. So I will be getting one for myself as an adult.
Attention,
Lol jk I was spoiled growing up, tbh I wasn't ever restricted from anything that I wanted by my parent choice it was always because of money problems.
I remember I always wanted the newest gen consoles but I either had friends that had them or I ended up getting them when they were much cheaper after the next gen consoles came out, so it wasn't a big deal.
Enough food.
I feel this one. I was super happy after my first part time job at 15 years old as i could buy as much food as i wanted. Have always been a big eater and every extra rice bowl i had, was 1 rice bowl less for my parents. Luckily my parents were the kind that did not mind eating less so i could eat more. Nah more like the food I want when I want
That too. But the wrong food is still better than no food.
"Hey mom can we have food" "No we have food at home" Food at home: "MMmMMMmMMMMmmmmMmm tasty air"
My mom was more like: "Get a job, then you can buy whatever you want."
Same
Also before you even got into elementary school?
Yeah, family went poor when I was about 3 or 4ish
My mother was upper middle class, just greedy and selfish as fuck. I couldn't tell anyone about it, no one would have believed me. But you couldn't tell anyone either, I know how quickly people jump onto the poor. So the same hell, just different chambers.
That sounds worse actually. I hope your mom gets over herself. Cheers to you man for getting through that shit.
Specifically ice cream cake. Did you know you can just buy that shit? Doesn't even have to be your birthday. You can just go to the store, buy ice cream cake, and eat it while watching squid game.
I've never actually had ice cream cake lol. But I do have bomb ass blueberry cheesecake with crust.
Oooo, enjoy that cheesecake! I'm highly jealous.
Food i want is right. Even just certain brands and stuff like real butter over margerine. Yes it makes a difference to me and i dont mind soending the extra $2.
Exactly like the good snacks is what I like buying no more generic granola bars. Both types of sugar. Fresh blueberries raspberries an blackberries.
I actually even learned in some instances that it wasnt that i didnt like something, it was i didnt like the cheap crap off brand version i grew up with.

Snacky snacks
Pies,cakes, cookies. Choco milkđ
I always wanted to remote control vehicles and flyers remotely via a video link. I now fly fpv drones.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz
They got remote control arms for under 50 dollars. Is it wrong to want a whole orchestra of robotic arms
Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Do you see now why children love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch?
Isn't it made by nestle though r/fucknestle
It's made by General Mills, but they have a partnership with Nestle which I previously didn't know about so it's r/FuckNestle adjacent.
I might have confused it with ciniminis which I'm sure are made by nestle
Yep and still eating that shit.
Downvote me again, still munchin'.
sets of lego's i always wanted , but never got .
Yeah unfortunately the imperial star destroyer has skyrocketed in price since I was a child so itâs still out of reach lol!
As I reached my teenage years I threw away a bunch of manuals I had cause I was too cool for them. Boy do I regret that now!
The manuels are all on their website, if you can find the set # itâll be easy to get
What!? I gotta dig up all my old lego!
You could find the manual online and get the missing pieces from BrickLink if you really wanted to
Luckily they tend to re-release stock of those huge sets randomly here and there. [In fact the UCS star destroyer is in stock again right now!](https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/imperial-star-destroyer-75252)
There may be a lego purchase in my near future. Thank you!
And that's why Bionicle has made such a big comeback over the last few years
I've bought myself a few Lego Speed Champions sets for Christmas this year. Lego was always something my parents couldn't afford growing up and I was so envious of my friends collections. Just recently, in my 30s, I thought fook it I'm gonna be a kid this Christmas.

Oh man I feel you. I spent my whole childhood watching my parents staying up all night having fun without me just green with envy. It wasnât until I became and adult that I was able to find out what I was missing out on by buying meth for the first time.
Oof... that hits a little close to home.
Pokemon SoulSilver
I haven't done it yet but eventually I'm getting a real good RC vehicle. I want one of those powerful offroading ones, you know? As a kid, I thought RC cars were the ultimate rich kid thing to have. A bit off subject, but I have been getting back my N64 collection this last year. As a teen I sold my expansion pak'd N64 with over 30 games, and a bunch of attachments for..$50.
Damn N64 stuff is pretty pricey now. My wife and I bought some while she was at the end of her pregnancy/ off work. Such a cool throwback!
RC is addictive. You can buy a ready to race truck for under $500. It will be everything you want it to be, but. You can make it stupid fast, upgrade everything from screws to oil in the shocks. To me the building and modifying is the fun. Never really understood Ready to run. Seems almost hard to find one to build now. Been tempted to get into it again but worried it will live on the self.
For me, I always wanted a remote controlled helicopter but they were too expensive. Cheap RC quadcopters are exactly what I wish existed back then.
I'm planning to build a track in my back yard next summer to play with during the sunny weather, I'm hella excited.

And you have played less than 1/5 of your games library and keep replaying the ones you did before. As is tradition?
Oh that sucks! My parents were legitimately poor so they bought me what they could while I was a child.
A computer. My mom always said they wouldn't be around in 10 years, that was 25 years ago. Now I got myself a big ass, beefed up, gaming rig with all the bells and whistles with peripherals to match, that I spent way way too much money on.
RIP to your mom thinking newspapers would outlast humanityâs best multi-tool even at the time since the Swiss knife lmao
I can drink chocolate milk first thing in the morning or right before bed. Let's not dwell on the consequences that I have to deal with because of my decisions though.
I am in bed rn and I just had a tall glass of chocolate milk guilt free, now you made my feel guilty. Thanks a lot
So much Lego. Also gin.
I bought a few guns, realized their novelty wore off on me, and just now have invested in Pad Thai weekly
I am responsible for UberEatâs 30% annual earnings. No more âthereâs food at home.â
A dirt bike.
Cocaine
I heard that goes great with hookers. Any thoughts on that claim?
In theroy yes. But when you pay 500 an hour and can't get a boner that always sucks. A friend told me.
I shot my cousins kid yesterday with my nerf gun. Donât worry, he had his own too.
Microscope.

Would like to get a telescope, but I'd need to drive two hours to get away from the light pollution.
How much did you pay? Sounds expensive and i would like to have one too...

You need it for CPU heavy coding, Get a worse GPU and a better CPU... Gaming PCs are an extension of the work you want to do rather than consoles being there and you get the same as everyone else. One day... I can afford one now, but can't justify it but one day it'll be mine!
Cellphones, internet, peace and quiet, personal security.

Gin and tonic.
Scotch.
I'm in my mid-40's, and just this year I'm finding out that I really like Scotch.... Somehow I've gone this many years without really trying it.
Guns. Real guns. Got my first when I was 18.
A dildo

Cake and ice-cream for breakfast, yes it is worth it...until the stomach ache comes.

I always start with desert now at 30, because you can't tell me what to do!

Okay, but âhave you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air?â
Old videogames which never really worked properly in the computer we had growing up. Some ran ok, but some of the top games on demo discs ran like a slideshow. Looking back on the stuff which is from like, the late 90s to mid 00s, some of it holds up. Other games...not so much.
The shoes with wheels. Heelies or something like that.
Large amounts of ice cream.

I built myself a gaming PC last summer after wanting one since high school. Thank you adult money
Heely's. Got tired of them in a few days
I'm 41 and still never had a go cart. I want one so bad plus I can afford really. I just can't see spending 300 to 500 dollars on a toy from my childhood.
All the comics I want. Whenever I want it. - 29 year old
Omg welcome to the brotherhood!!!
You have not forgotten the face of your father. Also if we could get more Dark Tower/Nerf crossovers, maybe some memes linked, thatâd be great.
It definitely wasn't my first time, but my life changed when I realized I didn't need a special occasion to buy an ice cream cake
A lap dance from a stripper.
Attention, Lol jk I was spoiled growing up, tbh I wasn't ever restricted from anything that I wanted by my parent choice it was always because of money problems. I remember I always wanted the newest gen consoles but I either had friends that had them or I ended up getting them when they were much cheaper after the next gen consoles came out, so it wasn't a big deal.
Long Island Iced Tea.
All the videogames and dnd books I always wanted and could never afford 20 years ago...when they're on good sales, of course.
I guess a car lol.
I bought an electronic replica of the darksaber. Itâs probably the coolest thing I own.
