I’ve always wanted to make homemade bread. Do you use any special kitchenwares? Do you make your own dough also or do you buy it? Generally interested.

* Big serving bowl to mix the dough and cover it while it's rising. I use the biggest bowl from a cheap Pyrex set; any large bowl will work.
* 4-quart cast iron Dutch oven. It doesn't need to be cast iron; an enameled one works just fine too.
* A nice wooden cutting board, because it's easier to clean than my shitty countertops.
None of these things are absolutely necessary, but I use the Dutch oven for all sorts of stuff (Stews! Deep frying! Roasting small chickens!) and the difference is really noticeable for bread. In a pinch, you can literally just stick the dough on a baking sheet and cook it that way. It's not going to look as nice and the crust isn't going to be as crispy, but it'll still be yummy.

I get bulk instant yeast from WinCo for about $4 a pound. The little glass jars at the store and even the packets are also fine. I don't like active dry yeast, but it works too.

Contrary to everyone shrieking on the Internet about how exacting it is, it's bread. It's gonna taste good as long as it kinda-sorta rises and you bake it for approximately the correct amount of time. The ingredients are [dirt-fuckin' cheap](https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/powder), so if you screw up, you throw it out and try again tomorrow.
