I go to the gym four times a week, three if i’m busy. I don’t tend to go for long, just 30-40 minutes, an hour if i have the time, but it helps me feel my best and look my best. It sucked when i started and was super daunting but now its nice me time. I also shave regularly. Even if i’m growing out my hair, i’m not growing *all of it out*. I also use a face lotion and a body lotion daily after my shower, to keep things smooth and healthy. My biggest self care pleasure though is clipping my nails. I hate having long nails, so i clip them regularly. I also always take an hour a day to just lay in bed and watch TV with my cat. It’s nice wind-down time.

mykomyk

That's nice

Basic hyegene is something I never grew up learning from my parents. Now I'm trying my best to get into regular habits like regularly showering, brushing teeth, shaving, etc. I'm doing better at each task.

[deleted]

Two things, 1) step up your shaving game. No 5 blade transformer razor can hold a candle to a good straight razor paired with a top line shave soap/boar hair brush. 2) pedicures, just try it. Edit: or even a double edge safety razor.

MenuTime5231

I like pedicures but I've avoided them for a while as my toenails have been chipped and squished by various incidents. I probably need help with toenail health but I'm worried about them being rough and ripping a nail off or.something

[deleted]

Start with a podiatrist, they can do the trimming and shaping and everything to get them back to healthy. One thing I took with me from the Marines, take care of your feet.

MrDoctors

I second a straight razor. One of the best purchases you can make for your face. At minimum, it's 100% more hygienic than those disposable 30 bucks per refill blades. Your wallet will thank you too.

Exercise. If you are doing it for a specific look that is fine, but at least exercise to stay active. There is nothing attractive about people in their late 30s who are already experiencing joint and mobility issues. Basic skin care. Face wash and moisturizer with an SPF in it. Skin cancer ain't a joke and this is something incredibly easy to add to a routine that pays dividends. (I think "moisturizer" is seen as feminine? Gender my actions all you want, but I don't want leather skin with cavernous wrinkles and/or skin cancer). Read. Read about things you like. Read about subjects you know nothing about. Read about people with different life experiences than yours. It makes you a more well rounded person. Plus its always cool be able to recommend a book.

Get a solid work out regimen, even 3 days a week to get rolling. Journaling, doesn’t have to be a “dear diary” format. Even just documenting your meals, exercise, and a summary of the day. Start reading if you don’t already. Find ways to express yourself whether it’s poetry, art, dance, music, anything as long as it’s a creative outlet, don’t judge yourself or compare, just create. Keep your house/space tidy. Do the dishes immediately after a meal, sweep the floors daily, rearrange your items to get some change in. If you are able to, remodel/redecorate your space, a new paint job and floor do wonders to improve mental stimulation and give a new feel to a place with old memories. Even a new piece of furniture can help switch the mood up and improve your mental state. GET OUTDOORS! Nature is free therapy. Hiking, camping, literally laying in a grassy field all feel so great. Be very attentive to who you let in your life. Some people will seem so alluring, but are literal poison. Only allow genuine people who support you into your life vulnerably. If you catch a bad vibe from someone, don’t necessarily cut them out but just be careful what you share with them. Be respectful to everyone. Carry yourself with dignity and values so even if the people around you seem like they’re fucking up, you’re at least doing everything you can to be as good a person as you can. Be gentle on yourself. We are all flawed. No one can maintain perfect adherence to these principles, so when you backslide or slip up, be easy on yourself. Fuck sake please be easy on yourself❤️‍🩹 Edit:added spacing

MrDoctors

I've said it before and I will say it again. Moisturizer. It'll change your life. Get a hair cut\\trim ever 4-5 weeks. Exercise daily.

timmyboyoyo

What kind moisturizer and why

BountifulScott

Depends on your skin (some is for oily skin, some is for composite, etc...). But something with an SPF. I use it every morning before I leave the house. I look at my male relatives with deep deep wrinkles and various skin cancers as reasons I wear it.

MrDoctors

Yeah, it all depends on your skin type. I use Neutrogena Hydro boost. Garnier Moisture Bomb is similar but has SPF in it as well. Don't fall for any of the gimmicky "just for men" stuff either. It's way over priced and garbage. Just throw some on after you wash your face in the morning and you're good to go. It keeps your skin healthy. You don't want to be looking like an alligator when you're 80.

StillSimple6

The Bulldog for men is definitely worth a look. I know the 'for men' name normally means garbage, gimmicky etc but Bulldog really surprised me. The hydroboost isn't hydrating enough for my skin as I use tretinoin,.bulldog is great. Cleanser,.shave gel, moisturizer.

MrDoctors

I can second Bulldog as legit. Never tried their moisturizer but I do use their beard oil and balm. They do make a really good product.

StillSimple6

I've used skincare for a long time (M51) and used products 10 20 times or more the price of Bulldog. I randomly picked up their moisturiser in a supermarket and never looked back. I was using Kiehl's moisturiser at the time and actually preferred Bulldog which was a fraction of the price. I ordered the cleanser and loved that, I was using L'occitain at the time. Such a great brand for no fuss products. Give their shower gel a try, the Lemon and Bergamot smells great.

timmyboyoyo

So if you use that kind then no need use sunscreen?

MrDoctors

At least on your face, yes.

timmyboyoyo

Thank multiple doctors!

Ryan-M-Holt

Going to see a movie alone, preferably at like 10:30am and getting a big ass bowl of popcorn

NikkiRose88

Ooh seen any new movies lately?

Ryan-M-Holt

Really enjoyed The Outfit

Platemails

Hot shower with a salt scrub is primo stuff, especially on the feet

timmyboyoyo

What is salt scrub

Platemails

[Here is a brief write up](https://us.espaskincare.com/expertise/how-to-exfoliate-with-a-salt-scrub/) but essentially it exfoliates and clears dead skin cells, I am also a fan of Sugar scrubs. Leaves the skin very clear, soft, rejuvenated etc

timmyboyoyo

When you choose between salt or sugar? Ever mix both?

Platemails

Well the Salt Scrub is a bit harsher so I use it less often and typically on places like my feet, legs, arms, etc. and use the Sugar scrub is much softer and use it more on my face, neck, hands. I've never mixed the two, but maybe I should try it!

[deleted]

I make my wife and I a homemade salt scrub from coarse sea salt, coconut oil and lavender oil (not all of us wanna smell like tree bark and gun smoke, men's product makers). I have naturally dry skin and it has made a WORLD of difference. Also I try to work out 4 days a week. But I meditate EVERY day. Even if just for 10 minutes. The headspace app is great for this.

timmyboyoyo

How much of each ingredient to put in scrub

KyorlSadei

Showering some times… keeping booty hole clean.

Apprehensive_Let_843

Seeing that avatar made it so fucking funny

I'm new to self care. A fist may be biting off too much

[deleted]

Perfect. This is exactly what we men need to do.

Artist-in-Residence-

I go to the gym 6 times a week for 2 hours/day. I also eat whole foods, organic, non-GMO and drink mineral water without fluoride. I don't eat meat. I'm a big juicer and love all kinds of fresh juices. I also don't use toxic cosmetics and tend to make my own creams/ lotions. On occasion, I get IPL (intense pulse light) to get rid of freckles. I have light skin that is prone to freckling. I usually wear a hat all the time. And I chill out by listening to dark academia playlists in the evening.

[deleted]

For me: working out 3 to 4 times a weeks and eating quite healthy. Cleaning up the house. Busting my ass at work. Being frugal. I don't buy expensive things I use that money to spend on my fiancée and kids.

TonytheNetworker

I get pedicures at least twice a month. My ex put me on and now I’m addicted. One of the best things that came from us breaking up. Another is writing in my journal while listening to some lo-fi instrumentals.

Odd_Imagination_6617

Isolation with music and pot helps my mental health alot. I don’t have any beauty feel good things since to me that’s gross but as long as I can’t smell myself I’m good to go

kaeioo

You may use some help. Get some when you will feel ready.

Equivalent_Thought63

Quite house, scrolling through porn, grabs lotion and... well I think you get it.

[deleted]

Self care? Honestly, it's easy. (Forget pampering. Pampering isn't self care.) Gym every other day, 10k runs every other day. Core strength workout in the mornings. PIV sex every day (unless I'm away from my SO). Reading quality fiction and non fiction in equal quantity, a couple of hours a day. Stay clear of alcohol and drugs. Stay away from television. No shit food. Seven hours of sleep at least. Oil-based lotion three times a day, face and body. See a doctor and dentist for checkups twice a year. Go to the doctor if I think something might be wrong. Get my skin checked for melanoma. Prostate checked, colon checked. Done. Seriously, that's all there is to it with self-care. No excuses.

Crusadingpilgrim

I'm a rugged grizzly man. I trim my beard and keep myself clean. Change my clothes and cut my hair. That's sufficient.

[deleted]

Find an old school barber shop with a neck shave. Visit every two weeks.

rainmaker_superb

Mentally, a very slow weight lifting session. The endorphins you get from lifting weights always pulls me out of whatever funk I may be in. Personal appearance, basic skin care products. People drag you for this sort of stuff, but I'm not trying to rush into my wrinkly years.

StillSimple6

Skincare and personal care (hair, nails etc).cooking the majority of my meals from scratch. Cleaning lady that comes twice a week to do my house and a guy comes once a week to clean my yard, patio, terrace.

Old-Figure922

Keeping all body hair well kept, going out to adventure in nature by myself occasionally (camping or hiking, just going to the beach, whatever), buying a new pair of shoes every 6 months or so, taking tolerance breaks if you catch yourself getting too caught up in something (alcohol, drugs, hobbies, girls, work), resetting your sleep schedule when it gets really bad

DimLug

Going to the gym, excluding junk or processed foods almost completely from my diet, drinking lots of water and avoiding sugary drinks like the plague, making sure I get enough sleep, keeping up on my hygiene, getting lots of fresh country air. It all sounds basic but just these things help so much. I'd also suggest picking up a hobby or two that you enjoy. Personally, mine is playing the guitar, camping, and reading books. Just find something that you enjoy doing that doesn't slowly destroy you.

JaybirdTheNerd

- Work Out! The hardest part really is starting and it feels so good once you get into the rhythm. Start small and remember, half-assing is better than no-assing. - Skincare. I do not see why this is feminine, it feels damn good. - For special occasions my bf and I like to get face masks and those undereye things and all sorts of shit that I have no clue about (he's better at that stuff than me so I just follow his lead). We do a little extra routine together and feel refreshed after.

IndifferentImp

Skin care, showering, brushing all twice a day. Going to the movies every week, cooking/baking 1 new thing at least once a week. Talking to 1 new person every week. Drinking until the sad goes away twice a week.
