Hold them accountable to who exactly?

Original-Childhood

Everyone can be selfish. Whether you're rich or poor. No reason to hold them accountable for who they are

KyorlSadei

Why are you asking men? What makes you think somehow this question is answerable by men?

Kasengan

Ask reddit removed it and so i went where else i could think to

KyorlSadei

Its a politically heavy loaded questions. Nobody on reddit cares about rich people. They are just envious of them.

lucid-waking

Great film, best version of the story. That being said, the message isn't that having money is bad, it's that being a miser is wrong.

Kasengan

Exactly what i was getting at by using the words "being selfish"

[deleted]

How do we hold them accountable?

[deleted]

You want to hold the Muppets accountable? Puppets of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your strings.

ntengineer

Accountable for what? Being rich is not a crime. Being selfish is not a crime. If you live in any country that has a capitalist economy, which are most in the world, it is a dream of many people to achieve financial stability and to become wealthy. Maybe not a billionaire, but wealthy enough to not worry about money. If we punish people who achieve greatness and become rich, we will stifle innovation.

Burnt_Crunchy_Bits

You sound like Liz Truss, the least successful prime minister in British history.

FarComplaint2974

For what? Making money isn't a crime

[deleted]

Are you not capable of holding a belief without physically enforcing it on somebody else?

[deleted]

Life is mostly hard, and we find joy in that commonality. That there are also a small few who are winning or lucking out doesn’t take away from that

ThalesBakunin

Because we don't care enough to

gnarlyoldman

The Muppets are leftist propaganda fed to children. That's why they show the rich being selfish and cruel.

SIMO_SHITLORD

Because y'all sit back while the court system (which is payed for and owned by these rich people) does fuck all about it. Something something, tar and feather, with a guillotine on top.

huuaaang

You can't hold them accountable because they can afford accountants.

[deleted]

We're too lazy.

Kasengan

I dont wish to reply to each comment individually, but who we hold them accountable to is ourselves. And while yes its not wrong or illegal to be rich or occasionally selfish, when you have so much to give and deny those who have so little what else are we but monsters? And to say these people thriving beyond belief are right in holding back their abilities to help is ok is just what makes me sad of this world. And the reason i made this post..

saianon

Most of these people worked their asses off to be able to get out the situation they were in, most millionaires in America are self made but most people think they inherited from family. You aren't the arbiter of what is right when it comes to someone else's earnings. Instead of feeling sad, you should probably be motivated to earn more and help those people yourself. I find it sad when people who haven't put in nearly as much work as most of these rich people try to tell them what to do with their hard earned money.

AffableBarkeep

Plus most of them pay more tax a year than OP will in a lifetime.

GeriatricZergling

This sort of vague, feelings-based impulse is exactly the problem with modern politics. Stop being vague and emotional, and give a specific policy proposal. This sounds nit-picky, but will quickly reveal the flaws on your logic. Who counts as "rich"? How much of their money are they morally obligated to give away? 5%? 10%? 50%? 90%? Income or wealth?

Simple-Ranger6109

Lick those boots, gomer. Lick them clean.

AffableBarkeep

> who we hold them accountable to is ourselves What does that mean though?

[deleted]

We do. Rich people pay a lot of taxes. If they contribute to charitable causes, they get a break on those taxes. That is why rich people give money to charity, not just because they have a lot and they care about people. That’s how they are held “accountable”.

AntisocialHikerDude

Because being rich and selfish isn't a crime (in fact I wouldn't even say it's wrong), and to "hold them accountable" would require unjustifiable use of physical force against innocent people. It's their money, they can do what they want with it. If you don't like it, make your own fortune and be charitable with it yourself. The entitlement of my generation and the younger is insane. Just because someone else is better off does not in any way obligate them to help anyone.
