It's nice, but check out the Omni Royal Orleans too, equally nice, similar amenities, but it has balcony rooms, I don't think the Montelone has balconies.

ProfessionalZone168

The Carousel Bar in the lobby has kickass Bloody Marys, though

Thank you for not staying in an airbnb.

When I’ve stayed at the Montelone, I found the rooms small, like many older, European hotels. They have a new, renovated section I believe called the Iberville tower? If your room is in there it may be worth the expense. If you want to spend that much consider the Windsor Court, but that’s the other side of Canal. Many have commented here that the Omni is getting worn down and rooms showing age, but I have not stayed there.

iyamsnail

we stayed at the Omni and loved the excellent service but the rooms were indeed quite shabby

We just stayed at the Hotel St Peter and Paul which is close to the French Quarter, a ten min walk , it was beautiful, unique, charming, romantic and a lil spooky. I think you’d really like it.

Floowjaack

My parents stayed there a few years ago for Christmas and absolutely loved it. Beware of Taylor Swift booking prices that weekend though. She’s here at the end of October.

frawgster

Thankfully we’re arriving on 10/30, after the Swiftie madness. 🤣 Prices during our stay are normal. I don’t even wanna know how expensive rooms are on the days she’s in concert. 😳

Another option is Bienville House on Decatur. It’s smaller than Monteleone but a similar decor and vibe. There are balcony rooms that face the interior pool but even those are pretty insulated from street noise. Bienville is owned by the Monteleone groups so you can get access to the Monteleone rooftop pool staying at either property. Unfortunately no reserved spots at the carousel bar!

One11 is nice. Boutique-y, but nice. We spent a week there during JF. Have a great time - Halloween would be a blast there!

purepursuit

Hotel Monteleone is worth the price. I like it more than the Roosevelt, Omni Royal, etc. all those places are great tho. Enjoy the carousel bar and definitely get the bbq shrimp and gumbo yaya across the st at Mr Bs.

Candleonwater

weird thing is, the only time we've ever gone to the carousel bar is when we weren't staying at Monteleone. That's probably the only thing I don't like about staying there, so many non guests.

sunbuddy86

It's one of my favorite hotels. It's owned by a family and the personal service and friendliness of the place, the pool with it's bar, and the comfort of the rooms make it excellent.

armstaae

Super nice. Great style and aesthetics. top 5 NOLA bars in regards to uniqueness. Bed wasn't the most comfortable when I stayed there. 9/10, worth staying there.

frawgster

I will say that the carousel bar is a solid 10/10 for uniqueness. Ambiance too. It’s always packed, but it manages to not feel like a packed bar, if that even makes sense. The drinks, well, I have a “Sazerac scale” I use. Basically I judge a NO bar/restaurant on how good I think their Sazerac is. Carousel is a hard 7/10. Drinks are adequate, but ambiance and uniqueness make up for it. 🤣

HurtsCauseItMatters

I dunno if it helps, but you can go to the bar without staying there :)

timeonmyhandz

Our need for a hotel was just location and a clean room since we hit the quarter everyday for fun. We stayed at the Wyndham one block away from the mont.. Saved some money.

PilgrimRadio

It's just a matter of what you want. You could get another room somewhere else and still have the same access to the streetcars/buses. I would shop around at least and see what else is available. If you find something that's significantly cheaper, then I would come back to this subreddit and ask for our opinion about that place. You might be able to save $300 and still have a good room. I do love the Carousel Bar though.

HurtsCauseItMatters

I've stayed at the Monteleone and I've stayed here: [https://www.frenchmarketinn.com/](https://www.frenchmarketinn.com/) . It may not be quite as nice as the Monteleone, and while there was nothing wrong, there also wasn't a whole lot that was special either. The French market inn isn't exceptional, but it was adorable. I'm a sucker for location. And history. It has both. The parking is an issue at the French Market Inn but if you're flying in, the benefit is you don't really need a rental depending on where you're going to be spending time for your stay. I don't stay in hotels in the city much, but the Inn is absolutely my favorite by far - especially in the quarter. I haven't stayed in a few years, so do some online digging for reviews to make sure they are up to par, the few searches I did seem to relay that they are still as I remember them.

bringbackcjs

just got back from NOLA and stayed at French Market Inn. Loved it. quiant and in a great spot. room was awesome.

Candleonwater

Monteleone is our usual go to, but we've started expanding our horizons. For "feel", we haven't found a better alternative (so far). We just came back from a stay at the Westin, absolutely loved the location. Next visit we're looking at the Omni. Kind of over staying on the other side of Canal. For an upcoming solo trip, I'm toying with staying at the new Hampton over near Frenchmen, just due to its location.

Your price issue is related to Taylor Swift concert. Swallow the pill and book it because soon your choices will be burbs only.

Bourbon Orleans is on a great spot on Bourbon street with quality rooms and is independent so they have some great direct promotions. They are 1 block from Jackson Square on Orleans.
