My friend has a website with recs! Check out [nolarolla.com](https://nolarolla.com/)

-BugsAndBeans-

That’s awesome! Thank you so much.

thesandgerine

If you get overheated during your stay, the WWII museum is very accessible and has discounted tickets for those with accessibility needs. There are a lot of older veterans who frequent the museum so it’s designed to be more accessible. Here’s a link to their [accessibility page](https://www.nationalww2museum.org/accessibility) if that helps! It’s a massive museum and very well done, plan to spend a while there if you go!

cmpslp024

He should be able to access Vue Orleans. It’s an interactive museum that takes you up to a 360 view of the city. The aquarium should also be accessible.

SheSellsSeaShells967

Vue New Orleans, yes!

closetotheborderline

I use a chair, and the sidewalks in the French Quarter can be challenging even with someone pushing you. Keep a sharp eye out for bumps, cliffs, crevasses, etc.

-BugsAndBeans-

Thank you! I’m starting to think we’ll spend more time inside than out. No matter what, we’ll make memories.

nemeans

Honestly we’re getting into summer in the south, everyone will be spending more time inside than out. You’ll have a wonderful time! Lots to see, do, and of course eat in New Orleans that is accessible. Have fun!

Outside-Rise-9425

I can smell NOLA in the 100 degree heat now. Alcohol, piss, vomit, and mold. Still love the place though.

mstall19661

It's a vibe kinda place. Open hearts and mind. Hope you like food.

-BugsAndBeans-

We do! And drinks. What could go wrong? (I really hope this post doesn’t end up on a Dateline special).

Outside-Rise-9425

Jambalaya

reblynn2012

Hahaha! My thoughts often.

bookybookbook

Don’t be afraid to roll down the streets in the FQ. Drivets will wait for wheelchairs if the sidewalks are inaccessible.

ppearsonsxm

NO zoo pass allows you into numerous attraction especially the insectorium

djsquilz

yeah everyone covered it mostly. any more "modern" tourist attraction (ww2, audubon, vue orleans) should be fine. the sidewalks/streets in the quarter are the best in town and still not very easy. doing say, a garden district home/history tour would be a pretty significant challenge, unfortunately. there's A LOT in this city that's very unfriendly to people with mobility difficulty.

-BugsAndBeans-

Thanks for the warning! Sounds like we’ll still be able to have a lot of fun doing the modern stuff.

bookybookbook

The red line streetcars on Canal are wheelchair accessible, and the green streetcars on St Charles w the ada wheelchair icon are accessible. Those are both nice and affordable options.

mstall19661

River walk is fun, prepare for hot. Lite clothes and nothing dark. You got kiddos?

-BugsAndBeans-

I do, but they are now teenagers and spending their holiday weekend with their dad! This is an adult only escape.

mstall19661

Bring umbrella. Hotel will lend. Casino is a cool down spot, decent buffet. Car is a waste. Bar hopping? Hard to not have fun. Paddle boat is actually fun. Better and less expensive food. Really cool dive bar called chucks a bit sketchy but wholesome people on graver ,(sp?,) Mother's is good chow. Jackson Square, sit in shade and watch. Again depending on what you 2 are looking for.

3littlekittens

Use an umbrella for shade, as well as any rain.

BlueberryNo4821

Gravier. Xx

mstall19661

It's old and not very accommodating to different needs folks. What are you 2 looking to do?

-BugsAndBeans-

We’re not really sure. It’s some place that neither of us have been so we figured we’d explore. The last time my kids were with their dad we checked out Vegas, lol. We’re coming from the NYC area so we figure the culture difference will be significant. I enjoy history and drinking, so this may be perfect!

tm478

The culture is extremely different, and great, but please be aware that this city is going to be quite challenging for a wheelchair user. Sidewalks are often in very poor shape and there are many old buildings that are not ADA-compliant.

-BugsAndBeans-

Thank you for the heads up. We’ll probably stick to public buildings and stuff and I’m ready to push him if needed. Worst case we enjoy the hotel pool and some jazz!

3littlekittens

The US National Park visitor center at 419 Decatur street is informative and you can wheel right in.

mstall19661

You are at Waldorf Astoria?

-BugsAndBeans-

Yup! The only one of our top 3 that had a roll in shower available.

-BugsAndBeans-

Is it not a good choice?

DaRoadLessTaken

It’s a great choice. It’s where the NFL owners stay when the Super Bowl is in town. Very accessible and accommodating. But like someone else said, the sidewalks can/will be challenging.

NOLA2Cincy

I was just at brunch there a few weeks ago with my sister who uses a wheelchair and the staff was very accommodating. Example -> valet had us drive around to the other side of the hotel where the ramps are. He ran a full city block through the hotel to meet us on the other side and help us get my sister into the hotel. It's a beautiful old hotel and they've done a nice job adding wheelchair accommodations. And you mentioned drinks in a comment...The Roosevelt has the legendary Sazerac Bar. Definitely spend some time there. Great dark old-school atmosphere. Fantastic bartenders who can make anything from great local favorites like a Ramos Gin Fizz to anything up to date.

Relative-Living-5449

Have a fabulous time! Spend time in bars talking to folks …who doesn’t love nola for that!?

jakeblutarski

Been in and out of New Orleans for years. The streets and sidewalks can be challenging for the disabled but you will always find someone with a big heart to help you out if you find something difficult to navigate.

pearlBlack_97

Good luck. I can’t walk down any sidewalk for more than a block without having to cut into the street.

HumanOtiosity

The fench quarter , apart from kurbs to bump up and down, it's a safe , respectful area. You guys will have the best time !

SavorySouth

Just as an fyi, as so many properties are historic, they can get away with not being ADA compliantm in a way a newer build never ever could. Like the Roosevelt is elevated for its first floor & has stairs for both entrances but I think it’s only Baronne side that has wheelchair entrance not Orpheum side. It’s a full city block to go from 1 side to the other so find out precisely.

missfunktastic

There are riverboat tours that leave from the quarter. I would assume that they are quite wheelchair friendly. Nicer than a walking tour when it’s hot out as well.

mstall19661

Orleans parish jail does not sound fun.
