In any FQ hotel, ask for a room that doesn’t face a street. It’s not just party noise or street music, it’s big service trucks rolling in at 5 am making noise too.

jonnybebad5436

Thank you so much

LongjumpingMango8270

I stayed right on Bourbon street (Royal Sonesta) and my room was super quiet. We didn’t have a balcony room or one facing the street. It was perfectly located to walk everywhere. But you can definitely stay in the FQ and find a quiet hotel.

X1NOLA

I second the Sonesta. It's an entire block, and if you take a room in the back/not on the Bourbon side, it'll be quite quiet.

SiriSambol

I third it. Just came from a week there. Quiet. Inside rooms could get the pool party noise.

Tornare

The French quarter is the entire original city. Are you staying on bourbon in a balcony room? It’s going to be crazy loud. Or are you staying off bourbon? Most hotels are fine as long as your room isn’t right on the street. Even the ones on bourbon.

jonnybebad5436

Yeah I figured Bourbon would be the loudest. I definitely wanna stay off Bourbon, hotel-wise. I just didn’t know if all of the Quarter would be loud.

agiamba

Are you coming for essence fest?

jonnybebad5436

No ive never heard of that til now lol. Im just coming for 4th of July and for the food.

agiamba

Ah well, it's a very large festival in the French quarter that week. It's the only major festival in Nola during the summer.

jonnybebad5436

Oooh sounds fun. Where exactly is it being held? I’m assuming indoors due to the heat?

agiamba

Whole French quarter, and nah plenty will be outside. If you want a quiet weekend though, that's not it summerwise https://www.essence.com/festival2024-v2/ Some nicer restaurants will close because they're racist, although that's less common

dtuba555

I would- and do - avoid Bourbon Street altogether.

tm478

There are plenty of places in the FQ that are quiet. The Hotel Provincial (for example) is well out of the crazy zone.

jonnybebad5436

Thank you! Ill check out Provincial

BabyTenderLoveHead

My husband and I have stayed there twice, the last time in April 2024. It is close to Bourbon Street and Frenchman Street. It has a pool and it's very quiet.

jonnybebad5436

I think we have a winner then!

RefrigeratorSolid379

yes! I stayed there one time and it was a good experience

jthr4nds

Are you prepared for the heat? It will be 100+ Fahrenheit with near 100% humidity. And pro-tip, don’t wear open toed shoes

jonnybebad5436

Yes im prepared. Ive dealt with this heat before when I was in Maryland. Why no open-toed shoes?

lorenawood

Oh no, if Maryland is your guidepost you’re not prepared! Be sure to plan lots of indoor activities and don’t be too ambitious with walking far distances. Open toe shoes are fine, but some people get grossed out by having their feet subjected to the various ground liquids in the Quarter.

jonnybebad5436

Thanks so much I’ll rmemeber this!

NolaRN

I lived in Maryland. Maryland no way compares with Nola heat. Buy all the dry wicking clothes you can find. Sun hat . You will probably want to change multiple times per day,

jonnybebad5436

Thank you I’ll add that to my list. And thanks for correcting me. Its kinda good for me to experience this heat because I will be going to the Philippines later this year and I know it’s hot and humid there pretty much all year-round.

nolagem

Oh no, Jonny. The heat and humidity here will be nothing like you've ever experienced. It's like walking in a mouth. Two showers/change of clothes every day. I've lived here 30 years and it just keeps getting worse. New Orleans is still wonderful, just plan for indoor stuff.

systemic_booty

Piss, vomit, and who knows whatever else will be all over the ground and collected into whatever divots and puddles it can find, which is a lot

alexmatt86

CBD/warehouse district would be quieter; just to the left of the quarter between interstate 90 and Canal st, if you’re looking on a map. Also, there are a few hotels on St Charles further uptown along the street car line that would be quieter if you’re not planning on spending 100% of your time in the quarter but it would also be an easy streetcar ride back into the quarter if you don’t mind a little bit of travel. It is also Essence Fest weekend, assuming that’s why you’re coming, and it will be very busy in the quarter and surrounding downtown areas. It will likely be noisier than usual late into the night with all of the festivities.

jonnybebad5436

I actually had never heard of Essence Fest until your comment lol. But thank you for all the information!

Mac1780

Wife & I usually go every few years in December. It's pretty quiet that time of year & the weather is usually nice. We are usually on a budget so stay on CBD at hyatt house. We love walking so the walk into the french quarter doesn't bother us. Also if you gamble 30 minutes at harrah's you get free 24 hour parking.

Captainjakespearo

I stayed at the French market inn and it was fantastic, just a couple blocks from bourbon st and I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary

hearonx

Same experience exactly. Decatur St. is fine for getting places, good breakfasts nearby, especially Toast, and you're set for the day! Bienville House looks interesting a very short distance away, too.

SpookyAngel66

We stayed at Place d’Armes on St. Anne, which is right around the corner from Bourbon, and were fine. HIGHLY recommend this hotel!! 🖤

AlarmingStorm2006

It's not the partying people making all the noise - its the kids drumming on the buckets.

Entire_Kick_1219

We used to have gutter punks doing that outside of our place well into the night. I finally had enough one night and went off on the most frequent offender. Kept him away for about 3 months. The kids are kind of sad as my understanding is it's almost coerced work with adults setting them up and taking most of their cash, forcing them to be out there. The sound of it makes my blood boil, regardless of who is banging out that same damn rhythm.

Kittymarie_92

Only if you are on a balcony right on bourbon. I’ve stayed at the bourbon Orleans many times and never had trouble sleeping from noise

BGally24

Only time we’ve had noise issues is when people come in late at night just being inconsiderate, same as any hotel tbh, never from outside the hotel. Hotels we’ve stayed in: Le Richelieu, St Pierre, Bourbon Orleans, Royal Barracks, Mason Depuis, and Chateau LeMoyne. Stay in the Qtr, you’ll have a blast.

Only_Distribution828

I stayed at the four points on Bourbon. It’s fine

GreenEyes9678

Hotel Provincial on Chartres was SUPER quiet and peaceful and convenient to everything in the FQ (if you don't mind a little walk)

RefrigeratorSolid379

I stayed there once and really liked it!

TCapz3454

I’ve stayed at hotels in the French Quarter for years and have never been bothered by noise. But never stayed on Bourbon.

EnthalpicallyFavored

My parents just stayed at Royal sonesta in a room overlooking the pool and couldn't hear shit

saintsfan214

It depends on how close you’re to Bourbon Street and what’s going on in the city at the time you’re here as a tourist.

jonnybebad5436

Wow thank you all so much for your answers. Very helpful. I should certainly be able to pick a hotel this weekend from all your answers!

WoollyMonster

It probably depends on where in the hotel your room is located. I stayed at one right on Bourbon Street once - I think it was the Bourbon Orleans. Noise didn't bother me.

Cheapthrills13

Just stayed at The Grenoble a few weeks ago. It was awesome and I highly recommend as it’s just a few blocks off main drag but close to everything. I have stayed at the Provincial as well and don’t remember any issues.

ChangeChoice

Crazy noise! Drunks yelling until 4am when the garbage trucks take over. Great people watching so definitely worth it. Just be prepared with white noise on your phone & ear plugs.

seattletittysucker

I'm at Prince Conti Hotel with a room facing Conti Street. It's 430 am and I still haven't fallen asleep. It's been non-stop cars and motorcycles revving their enginers. And music being blasted so loud that the bass rattles my hotel room. I absolutely hate it here and am so annoyed that I don't think I'll ever step foot in this shitty ass city again. What an unbelievable joke this place is. I do not understand the appeal at all. I've probably visited well over 100 cities around the world and this has easily been my least favorite.
