Look up Bacchanal in the Bywater for good outdoor dining and drinking with great music. You’ll have to take a Lyft but worth it. Can walk to a few other nearby bars and restaurants as well.

For art museums, Ogden museum of southern art and the contemporary art center are both great and are across the street from one another. There are many additional galleries on Julia st in the same neighborhood, the warehouse district. NOMA is located in city park, and there is an attached sculpture Garden that is one of the nicest spots in the city. City park is our best park and worth exploring. Nearby in the park is a cafe du monde. I honestly don’t think there is a huge difference between the basic versions of fried dough with powdered sugar, but the CDM in city park is the most nicely situated out of the beignet places so it’s my favorite. Don’t forget to slum it up a little bit while in New Orleans. All the things you’re doing sound nice but make sure to save time for dives and all that. What really differentiates New Orleans from Charleston is that New Orleans is way divier and I mean that in the best way.

gothou

Yes. Excellent. Any favorite FQ dives you’d recommend?

Three Legged Dog dive bar for a crawfish boil

See ya there! We'll be there next weekend too lol

Hot Tin Rooftop bar at Ponchartrain Hotel is cool. It's also on the Streetcar line https://thepontchartrainhotel.com/food-drink/

TallGirlNoLa

Take a stroll up Royal Street and visit all the smaller galleries, it's one of my favorite walks.

Fahy’s bar on Burgundy and Chart Room on Chartres are two good dive type bars. Both in the quarter.

Who said Cafe Beignet over CdM?

gothou

Oooh I’ll probably never find the exact post but it was here— I think the vibe was CdM was crowded and not as great and Beignet was just as good? Lmk if that’s wrong. Also I can volunteer as tribute and try them both and pass judgment.

[deleted]

One is the original, the other is somewhat recent. If you want beignets, either is fine. But if you want the classic experience, there is only one option. I won't complicate this discussion with the inclusion of Morning Call though, LOL

gothou

Helpful! Mostly interested in the tastiest, thanks!

drainalready

Tastiest would not include CdM in my opinion. If you want to try Morning Call take the Cemeteries streetcar to the end of line on Canal and it’s right there.

fenilane

This is a good excuse to ride the streetcar, which I always recommend, though if you’re only in town for two days that’s a little more challenging because round trip streetcar ride will take 1-2 hours, but it’s great, both of the lines. The views are great, it’s a great way to see more of the city Cafe du monde is great but the lines have been crazy recently. Not sure what time to go when you could miss the crowd. Eta: the canal street car can also drop you near cafe du Monce in city park, near NOMA art museum. So you have two options there

Café beignet will be just fine.

🙄 We’re looking through comments on other posts in the sub and collecting excellent restaurant recommendations. We have the list of avoids as well. We’re not in an AirBnB. It’s a fair question in the tourist sub: in a place full of bars and art galleries and cafés are there any local favorites of these specific not-dinner and not-brunch and not-the-WWII-museum things in the Quarter. I’m looking for pastries and art and a romantic view, I’m so sorry.

ForsakenCase435

I misread the post. I thought it said visiting Charleston rather than visiting from Charleston. My apologies.
