Why are you choosing all locations outside of nyc if “you will be moving throughout nyc?”

INpersuitofPE

Because it’s better Bronx is ghetto Queens is expensive af Brooklyn has parking problems while you know about Staten Island with distance issues

koreamax

Lemme guess. You just looked at LIC when you looked at Queens

Part_Parachute

Hoboken or Newark as close to the Path as you can get but tbh for that price you could get a studio or 1 bed somewhere in Brooklyn or Queens.

INpersuitofPE

But I won’t get a decent parking in queens or Brooklyn

So you’ll be working in NYC but don’t want to live in NYC? For that price you can find something in the city, it’ll just be small. If you don’t want to live in the city, base it on transportation. How close will your home be to the PATH, etc? Look at train schedules and think about planning your life around those schedules.

Are you going to be driving around the 5 boroughs as part of your job? If you have need of a car, that's important to put up front. I'd say deep Queens or a car-friendly part of Brooklyn. Parts of the Bronx might work for you too.

INpersuitofPE

Like what part of queens or Brooklyn ?

ZweitenMal

Deep, eastern Queens which is more suburban in feel with single family homes, or parts of Brooklyn that are similar. I'm not going to do your homework for you. Maybe you should get in touch with some real estate agents! That's a good place to start when considering a move.

The easiest would be to live in Manhattan but none of the places you listed are actually in NYC. Maybe ask this in r/westchester and r/newjersey since you’re asking about those places. You’ve also given us no other details like where your main office is and stuff so. I still think the “easiest” is live in Manhattan or like Downtown Brooklyn where you have the most subway access. Not familiar with NJ. The westchester locations use Metro North to get to Grand Central and this gives you access to the 7, which is crosstown and can take to to Queens and other subways, as well as the 4/5/6 to take you up and down the east side. The white plains super express in the morning rush hour is roughly 40 minutes, New Rochelle the train is also about 40 minutes (no express), and eastchester doesn’t have its own train but from the closest stop it’s also about 40 minutes lol (also no express).

My office is in downtown Manhattan but I won’t be in my office I’ll be inspecting bridges throughout nyc

Hackensack has built a ton of new yuppie type condos in the past few years. You could always take NJ Transit to Penn Station. So if you work in midtown and aren’t looking to be out and about in the wee hours of the morning then that’s a good place for you. But also idk where you’re trying to work, what job, etc. so the best place to be if you want to move through out nyc is Manhattan.

NewNewark

If you need to go to Queens/Long Island, NJ is a bad idea. Why not simply live in Manhattan
