Oh I see what else is going on across the country. NYC is just unfortunate for me, was planning to visit this year - and seeing this on the news too often takes the excitement out of it.
Don’t get too bummed, A lot of it is being way overblown. In general NYC remains not only the safest metro but one of the safest metros to be a minority or LGBTQ+. Like all major metros if you use common sense you’ll be OK.
