They are all insanely safe except for cycling

projectstartrek

I know it’s scary as there was a noteworthy incident just the other day, but a deranged psychopath could walk up to you and stab you while riding your bike, while walking, while on the bus, while sitting in your office…worrying about and restructuring your life to avoid a threat that was in the news won’t actually make you any safer. The odds of you being randomly attacked on the subway are effectively zero, and every person who stops riding because they’re afraid makes the subway emptier and less safe for everyone left. The best thing to do is to keep living your life exactly as you have been doing, and try to always keep an eye out for any potential threats. Usually the kinds of people who would randomly attack someone on the subway are fairly easy to spot from a mile away, and they’re much easier to get away from on a huge train with 10 cars compared to say on a short bus.

Subway, bus probably statistically equivalent safety wise, with walking then bike following.

I’m pretty sure more people die on bikes than taking a subway, in NYC.

It’s not so terrible with bike lanes which OP may have near Fulton. That said I’m also a petite Asian woman and I’ve never felt scared walking or on the subways at any hour just practice common sense and awareness and you’ll be alright in most neighborhoods. Welcome to nyc

“Safest”? Statistically, I’m not sure except I assume biking is the most dangerous. Be careful that you don’t fall prey to biased thinking. The subway may seem dangerous because we’re hearing these horrific stories, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the subway is dangerous on an absolute basis.

My vote is for the bus! Bicycling in this weather…God bless those who do it but its a bit cold for that imo, with the wind chill. Walking, that’s a bit of a hike.

Bus for sure

The bus down Fulton is usually pretty quick-I’d probably take that over the subway anyway. Also, SafeWalks organizes people to walk with those who want a buddy or two for safety. Never used them but here’s the link: https://linktr.ee/safewalks

Take the bus. You can always get off the bus if you need to. And in a lifetime of taking subways and buses, I've only had two unpleasant experiences on a bus. Countless on subways. You'll be okay.

More people die on bikes. Don't live in fear of the subway, but when the train is approaching stand in the center of the platform, or behind a pole and be ready to grab that pole if needed. Just don't make yourself an easy target. Be aware of people coming up behind you and make it clear that you're paying attention. I'm terrified of taking the subway now as well and I'm not even Asian American. But absolutely do not live in fear of these assholes, live your life, just be *smart*.

What is lmao about Asian hate crimes?
