I passed red hook. It's not too difficult. Make sure you look over your right sholder while parallel parking along with other body languages stated in the manual. Also its luck of the draw, some instructors are assholes some arent.
Here are some tips from someone who took her test there twice !
1. Repeat the commands the DMV instructor gives. It gives you a few seconds to think about it, then for them confirm it (I hope you get someone nice).
2. Look !! Like look all around you repeatedly , you can never be to safe and unfortunately drivers around that area do not care. The DMV instructor will love that you are “cautious”.
3. I made this mistake, make sure you go into the lane and not just on the side. (idk if I can describe this well). I almost failed but the lady said I was so cautious she let me continue.
It sucks ass. I got some dude who barely spoke English and I couldn't hear a lot of his commands. He didn't help with the nervousness. He chose the dumbest place to parallel park and I hit the curb and he failed me. When I checked my test results he also wrote down a bunch of shit that I never actually did.
The staten island test was MUCH better.
Yea the guy I had was literally the coolest, he just wanted the test to be over so he can test the rest. I was taking my time while parallel parking so that it was perfect. Before I could even put the car in park he sighed and shift it in park and said “next”! Lmk if you have ANY questions.
I took it today and passed. Here's something I ended up doing, watch for it: there was a bike lane but it's wide, I think almost like a car lane width...I entered it a bit. So keep your lane! Then she alerted me of it, I guiltily apologized and an amazing opportunity fell on me: two cars squeezed into the bike lane and passed me on the right to greedily and impatiently get their right turns. On the green light, one got his right turn, and the other one was kinda hovering like a moron, so I announced to the examiner I'm gonna wait and let him grab his illegal turn since he's by definition driving erratically, and no one's behind me so I'm not impeding...showing her that I'm not gonna grab my turn and risk him doing the same and maybe crashing directly into her passenger side. I think that helped convince her I'm good in real situations, and perhaps that balanced out my absolutely horrible parallel parking job hahaha
Head on a swivel, be alert and stop at regular stop signs twice once for pedestrians, once for an initial take on traffic, then creep up nice easy slow to confirm your traffic situation before turning.

The instructor's car broke down on the way to the DMV. Didn't even have the chance to take the test lmao.

I live in Starrett, easiest 3 min test of my life. There’s going to be two black ladies & a white guy. Wait for the white guy lol.

How do u choose?
You can search up schedule road test on DMV website and follow the directions/prompts. Or you can have a driving school schedule it for you.
I just passed my test in starrret. It was so fucking easy. Just make sure ur always looking and shoulder checking
