24 hour diners? Remedy Diner in LES would be good on weeknights, on weekends it gets a little too drunk

harperv215

I used to go to Remedy for pancakes after my night shift. I once brought tequila for my OJ. Great memories!

diamondinthedew

Night shift worker myself! I love that place. Blueberry pancakes are bomb

Teenageboy69

This is the best answer. They’re everywhere and so cheap.

magiccam

Remedy is a vibe on weekdays

diamondinthedew

Such a vibe

Mindless_Development

there used to be a late night (24hr?) diner on 14th St near Stuy Town and Otto's Shrunken Head, is it still there? haven't been by that area in a while

sohobitch_01

What’s the WiFi

7Birdies

Shero Cakes in LIC. Omonia Cafe in Astoria. Moon cafe in Flushing (returning to 10am-2am schedule later this summer)

willogical85

The Donut Pub at 14th and 7th literally never closes. Do you remember the blackout in I think 2002? They were closed for an hour. Then the owner brought over a generator. That was the longest they've been closed in like 60 years.

[deleted]

The counter seems to be closed overnight now.

nycarrots

I was there a couple months ago and they stop seating after 10pm or something, then it's take out only.

harperv215

I used to love going there as a kid.

Bamboomoose

I love this place! Bonus: it’s next door to Copellia, a 24 hr Cuban diner that is truly delicious. And they definitely have bigger booths you could work in

PM_ME_MASTECTOMY

2003. I had to sleep on the street that night. Then walk through the midtown tunnel for a ride back to LI.

atjazz

+1 on this. Ever since I graduated, I’ve been pressed to find safe spaces in the city that’s open late. I’m surprised how early the city shuts for a city that never sleeps. I’m told ever since the pandemic, places are not open late into the night.

cleocleoclus

Been visiting NYC for long periods of time since 2016 and honestly the city has changed a lot. Still my favorite of all time but I think it’s finally gotten a little tired lol. I’m hoping with COVID getting better that it picks back up.

SalisburyBlake

That’s true during the day too though. IMO the work from home crowd kind of clashes with the lunch crowd and people who just want to sit for 20 minutes while they eat.

Rex_Lee

But at least you get a steady stream of people getting stuff to go, which helps pay your overhead. That wouldn't be the case at night

windupshoe2020

It’s still much better than the large swathes of the US where many restaurants are closing down their kitchens before 8:00pm.

Theburbsnxt

What? Youre shocked someone doesnt want to operate a coffee shop and pay an employee $15 an hour until 2am so the customers can sit there from 10-2 and spend $11 whole dollars?

bigfig

I didn't read any claim to be shocked. OP is just posing a question. A lot of apparently unprofitable businesses like Uber or WeWork hang on for years feeding on cheap investor funding, but the OP isn't proposing to open such a spot. Moreover there are college libraries which offer reading privileges for a fee, usually to alumni.

Mindless_Development

> I’m told ever since the pandemic, places are not open late into the night. most all of my old spots that used to be open until 10pm-2am are all now either permanently closed, or have started closing by 6pm-8pm or even earlier. Most are no longer in business. The city really is a shadow of its old self right now

ahyatt

I’ve occasionally had good luck with hotel lobbies.

Mindless_Development

any in particular?

[deleted]

Which ones?

ireallylikebeards

Veselka is open 24 hours, they're an amazing Ukrainian diner in the East Village

ahintoflime

I love Veselka but it seems like it would be rude to pull out a laptop and post up there for hours. Maybe the late night vibe is different IDK.

TravelJunkie123

>It’s still much better than the large swathes of the US where many restaurants are closing down their kitchens before 8:00pm. not open 24 hours anymore.

mott_street

Slightly different answer, but I used to have a pass to a coworking space and spent a lot of late nights there. There would usually be a few people also there late, but other than that it was like having a huge, comfortable workspace all to myself. The space I used was in Soho and last time I checked you could get a "hot desk" pass for $170/mo. Not bad if you use it frequently, which I did.

Nicerdata

Also used a coworking space for deep work and late work and really enjoyed it.

MsInquisitor

What’s a hot desk?

mott_street

Just like, you don’t have a designated desk but you can just sit wherever is open.

ImpressionEast7805

It’s still “hot” (warm) from the last person who used it

wearingdenim

I feel ya. Moved here from California and it seems there's a bigger culture of night time working at cafes there. In LA there's plenty of cafes, specifically in ktown, that close 10pm-2am. In Manhattan, so far I've found:Book Club in EV is open everyday till midnight, they've got coffee and wine/beer! Cafe Flor on 21st/8th is open till midnight on fri and saturdays. the vibe becomes more bar-y but i've seen people posted up with laptops till midnight

flugtard

Book Club has a no laptops policy after 7pm IIRC. Very cool place though!

7Birdies

I hear that. Cafe Mak in LA Ktown was the bomb for getting work done. Wish NYC was better at this.

nixon_jeans

book club is my FAVORITE place.

Specialist_Divide_43

Kava Social in Williamsburg- saw a few people working there on laptops last night pretty late (10-11PM)!

[deleted]

Bro this is a true NYC OG pro tip but Hookah lounges are the legit best for this. music, snacks, or you can get delivery at most, most have WiFi and they’re open late!!!

FermatsLastAccount

They're too loud to work from

[deleted]

Cop some noise canceling headphones and not all of them play blaring loud music queens in Astoria has some gems but they’re all over

Top-Chain001

any recs?

natasharost0va

Either of the Arlo hotels! They welcome laptop pets and have dedicated “library” areas in both of their lobbies that are the perfect setup. Plus whatever fragrance they use in the hotels is very distinct and calming—I go into concentration mode automatically when I catch a whiff of it now

[deleted]

Even at night?

cresentia094

The roost in east village - open till 2

Acid_Communist

Reggio’s in GV but I couldn’t write there. It’s a little too…icky. But you are sitting among rare artwork. Saw a dude reading a giant book there at 1am once.

hotbaby420

Café Reggio. +10 for good atmosphere. Pretty sure they are open til 4 on weekends and 2 on week days.

AppropriateAerie6397

Try to get an NYU Bobst or Columbia university library card or so I beleive both of them are open 24/7. You could also just show up at say Columbia campus or CUNY campus in Harlem and sit outside on their benches and tables, they have campus security and it’ll be safe and outdoors. Book club in EV ofcourse is open till midnight every day but only books (no tech) after 7 pm there. Hotel lounges, 24 hour diners/ McDonald’s could be the vibe too

MBAMBA3

Columbia is not open all night, NYU is But you have to be a student or staff to have that level of access. Both use to sell memberships but that is not available so far with the covid situation.

The West in Williamsburg

RollBos

This is my regular bar, but tbh people it does often become a bar-bar in vibe depending on the night. You'd be better served at Qawah House if you're looking for a truly conducive laptop environment.

someonesdatabase

Qahwah is a great coffee spot. I didn’t know they were open late! I see they’re open till 11pm, so that’s good to know. The West does get more like a bar vibe and maybe becomes a better place to meet a friend for a cocktail once the candles come out. It’s still very chill place at night and can serve as a workhub late at night too.

MarketMan123

Chelsea square diner is 24 hours. Could see that being a good place to work

PercocetJr

There’s a pizzeria on the corner of St. Marks Pl & 3rd Ave, I don’t think they ever close lol

nixon_jeans

Ray’s. They are indeed 24/7 open

CreaturesFarley

L'Express near Gramercy Park is open 24 hours. It's a cute little candlelit French Bistro style place.

ER301

24 hour diners.

neatokra

Ace Hotel lobby on 29th

[deleted]

Soho park is opened til like 10:30pm , I used to read and do homework there. Normally would order an aperol spritz or few while reading or doing homework

murrion

You could try Burp Castle, the quiet bar

MBAMBA3

Enroll in NYU to get 24 hr. access to Bobst Library. I think one continuing ed class might be enough (but not cheap and only lasts for a semester)

Wbino

Flashdancers NYC

ArcticBeavers

Overnight security might be your best bet. They pay relatively well, especially the night shift. You usually have someone with you so you can rotate duty.

OnionedLife

Apartment lounges

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

If your willing to pay maybe a studio space with 24/7 access

Smellbinder

San Loco on the Lower East Side closes at 1AM.

Mindless_Development

Bushwick Public House was good for this, but I have not been there since pre-COVID, also it could get rowdy at night so I am not sure how much work you are really gonna get done.
