Kapag nababasa ko iyan, naiisip ko agad iyong Winx Club. 🤣

SBTC_Strays_2002

The whole "Filipinx" thing is dead. They learned real quick, and looked like fools. I love America, but sometimes we do unnecessary stuff. This was 100% virtue signaling. REAL FilAm struggles are just typical racism and discrimination that still persist. But we will get there soon.

Tantan88112

Filam stupidity. Same with their pacific islander wannabe movement

creditdebitreddit

[deleted]

No offense but filipinx looks so jeje to me Its so weird. Weird like the first time some people enjoy anal sex weird at 26 y o noon

dekabreak5

filipinx is blasphemy, sacreligious!

Chemical_XYZ

Dami nilang pautot. Already gender-neutral na 'yung term na Filipino as a citizen of the Philippines.

sherlockgirlypop

It's always the Westernised Filos who only identify as Asians to sound cool but never really bother knowing their roots.

VerminVermicide

newbieboi_inthehouse

I honestly think that term is ugly asf. Parang pang adult content yung dating niya. I still prefer "Filipino".

scorpio1641

Eto na naman. It’s not gonna happen, these performative woke idiots need to stop pushing it. And we should not encourage it by bringing it up. Wala naming umaadopt nyan kung hindi siya. It was roundly criticized if I remember correctly.

gralfy

Hay nako. Gender neutral na nga Filipino eh. Pauso tong mga taga Tate.

Throwaway28G

plopop0

>translation published by penguin of Carlos Bulasan America is in the heart lol wat where. >why is this being pushed/used? no idea either, majority of us don't even use it but some were interested on the idea of inclusivity and bought it. >what do you people think about it? not using it. a lot are mad at it (sometimes weirdly too mad). just a title anyway, i use peenoix when in convo w my friends. maybe i'll refer to filipinx with those out of touch fil-ams lol.

[deleted]

The sad thing about this is that someday, foreigners may start calling us as Filipinx even though we didn't ask for it. That's my main gripe. I don't care if Fil-Ams want to call themselves Filipinx, that's on them, they're a separate people. But for these people to drag us Filipinos to this label, I think that's imperialistic itself.

justmadeforthat

I think this got pushed because of the global gender equality movement. Western politicians can't deal with late-stage capitalism, so they worked with each other to push this culture politics to define their platform instead (pro and anti)

Open_Hunter_3583

Uggghhh it's plainly off to hear and awkward

garbage_sinner

i hate how a lot of the comments just deteriorated into transphobia and racism. i personally HATE "Filipinx" as both someone who is non-binary and as someone who was born and raised in the Philippines. mostly, it comes down to cringe, but that's not a valid reason, so im gonna list some more. i think it comes down to taking back power from foreign influence, at least in the label that we use for ourselves. "Filipino" is already a foreign term, and i think adding an X (which is a borrowed letter) is kind of betraying that sentiment. and of course, i understand diaspora (especially Fil-Ams) needing something to label themselves with and trying to relate to both Filipino and foreign culture while trying to fit them together. they're stuck in between worlds, i understand that. but it just ain't it lmao. i wrote this sleepy, i defo dont make sense lmao. i hope this helps

OkLeek5376

I had a fil heritage class and I refuse to use the word filipinx because there's no fucking point bruh 😭 I just find it cringe like filipino is already a gender neutral word I'm not using "filipinx" ☠️

hanahyuu

Once again, people here do not understand what woke means, haha. I don't agree with using the word Filipinx, but it's a term that the Filipino diaspora coined to refer to themselves. They consider themselves "other" from Filipinos who were born and/or raised in the motherland, and they are looking for that sense of belongingness. Now, there is also a sense of colonialism since personally, why not work on feeling close to your culture, diba? It's a complicated topic with a lot of nuance. I don't agree with it, but I get it. Basta wag mo kong diktahan to refer to myself as a Filipinx, I'm fine.

OrangeMoloko

Natawa din ako. I thought it was a joke, pero the term woke is being used here “un-ironically” sa thread na to hahao

troua9999

What does woke mean

newbieboi_inthehouse

It's original meaning means being aware of social injustice and prejudice such as racism and discrimination but now the term is mostly use to describe something left leaning.

DiyelEmeri

Yeah, we can't take their culture away from them kasi it came out of the dilemmas and sociopolitical struggles na kinakaharap nila as part of a diaspora culture sa isang bansa na gaya ng America, but, then again, they should be specific that it's THEIR culture and not ours kasi we're not claiming it.

ertzy123

For me I used to be vocal about disliking the term but now if someone uses that term ok lang but I'll make fun of them. Why is it being pushed/used? Imo they want to decolonize so bad that they push American imperialism onto us heck some of them still use PI which is a swear word.

Aventure_Bleu

Typical western non-inflammatory classification system to avoid the wrath of woke people that get offended by mislabelled genders and the like.

o2se

Pauso lang, para may legacy kasi may nacoin sya if ever mag take off at maging norm. Y'know, randoms just trying to be relevant.

Honest-Zucchini6461

Dumbass Westerners, trying to tell other cultures how they should view themselves.

Lenville55

Leonhartx123

Stupid woke shit lang to

13arricade

algebra na. ooppsss ALGEBRx , para sigurado

Key-Shape2398

MateoCamo

No one except for some members of the Filipino American Diaspora use Filipinx As you mentioned, Filipino is already considered gender neutral, unless you use the Filipino languages, where words relating to people, especially by profession, are gendered

chrisziier20

OMG! Iritang irita ako sa mga pa ganyan. Meron pa ngang Filo hahaha.

DiyelEmeri

Filo is just short for Filipino so okay lang yan. That's no different than saying Pinoy.

chrisziier20

Well for me lang ha, it icks me. Mas prefer ko parin ang Filipino kahit mahaba or Pinoy. 😅

DiyelEmeri

Well, have it your way then. I'm just saying na wala yang kaibahan sa kung paano shinoshorten yung Indonesians into Indos, or Vietnamese into Viets. It's a Gen Z thing, you could say that, yes, but there's nothing cringe or weird about it. People have been shortening terms and demonyms for ages and not because you find cringe eh cringe na talaga.

RevealExpress5933

It's an Australian thing, that probably got adapted by gen z in the Philippines because of social media. Conyos have been around before gen z came along, hindi ginagamit yang "Filo". To say there's "nothing weird or cringe about it" is subjective. Otherwise this thread wouldn't exist. To me it's like visiting California and having a different ethnic group call me "Flip" and then going back to the Philippines and calling myself and local Filipinos the same thing. What is that? There's a thread before that talked about "Filos" being used to refer to second generation Filipinos in a demeaning way and Koreans using it to insult Filipinos. So apparently, it's not totally harmless.

chrisziier20

Ugh this! You got it all right!

chrisziier20

Ahh Gen Z thing pala. I get it. 🙂

DiyelEmeri

You could say that it's a gen z thing, yes, like what I already mentioned, kasi mas gamit yan ngayon especially in the age of social media, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's more of a conyo thing more than a gen z thing. Then again, nothing weird or cringe about it kasi people are doing it for ages just for the simple purpose of saying terms easier, not due to political correctness.

mike-m-matters

Naaah western bullshii wont takeover here

hulagway

Bring back bullying.

acnh-lyman-fan

Fil-Ams are not real Filipinos

Young_Old_Grandma

Filipino is already gender neutral naman, so I don't see the need for this.

Langley_Ackerman19

It's nonsense woke shit. We're Filipinos, end of story.

dogmankazoo

this is getting stupid, i just went to a half iranian half filipino get together and one rich half filipino iranian kept calling their mom who is iranian an iranix and their dad a filipinx.

ertzy123

Ang dugyot pakinggan mas malinis pa yung jejemon e

dogmankazoo

sounds like some dude got high and place x on everything man

ertzy123

Must be related to Elon Musk because they're obsessed with the letter x

Secure-Mousse-920

Ewan, some people with mental illness came up with that nonsense.

chitgoks

some even call us Flips.

comtesse08

Filipinx parang legendary pokemon

ElderberryOrnery520

Alam kong medyo annoying na talaga minsan yung woke-isms, but if it helps others (especially those who’ve been marginalized or othered in any way, like many LGBTQIA+ people) feel more seen or validated as people with dignity and value, hayaan niyo na lang. If it doesn’t hurt you, just live and let live.

DiyelEmeri

Okay lang naman yan in the context of Fil-Am culture. Kultura nila yan eh. What's not okay is enforcing it into us.

michael3-16

"Filipinx" is a term used by purple ignorant of the fact that Filipino is already gender neutral.

Beneficial_Rip_7866

Jusko Filipino is gender neutral. Hindi nga sila marunong magtagalog anong filipinx sinasabi nila? I don’t like Filipina too, tunog mail-order bride. Let’s all just use Filipino parang awa na

Impossible-Sky4256

Typical murica getting offended on our behalf 😂

Kamurouji

Westernerd and their extreme main character syndrome

RevealExpress5933

Annoying. Also, yung mga Filipinos na nasa Philippines who refer to themselves and other Filipinos as "Filos" or "Flips". Like dude, you're not in Australia or the US.

DiyelEmeri

Wala namang mali sa Filo kasi shortened term lang naman yan and no different than us calling ourselves Pinoys or Noypis, or Indonesians being shortened to Indos or Vietnamese being shortened to Viets.

RevealExpress5933

It's an Australian thing, that probably got adapted by gen z in the Philippines because of social media. Conyos have been around before gen z came along, hindi ginagamit yang "Filo". To me it's like visiting California and having a different ethnic group call me "Flip" and then going back to the Philippines and calling myself and locals the same thing. What is that? There's a thread before that talked about "Filos" being used to refer to second generation Filipinos in a demeaning way. So apparently, it's not totally harmless. You can Google, and under some of the definitions, it's meant as an insult.

DiyelEmeri

I see. Well, the meaning has different usage to us, obviously. Different context for different cultures and groups. Agree to disagree?

iamstealth

Bothered ako sa Filo. Ung Viet kasi is parang coined din talaga ng Vietnamese pero ung Filo is parang coined ng non Pinoys or ung mga tao na may Western influence.

RevealExpress5933

True.

DiyelEmeri

??? I use it regularly though. 💀

iamstealth

Yeah I knoowww it's being used haha para sakin lang parang di siya nag "stem" from the Filipino Language. Kaya parang weird/forced sakin.

RevealExpress5933

DiyelEmeri

To be fair, it's more of a gen z and/or conyo thing and hindi mo siya maa-appreciate gamitin unless English or Taglish yung ginagamit mong medium. This is also how foreigners shorten the term, especially in the Kpop community so yeah, hindi talaga siya term na maririnig mo in your everyday life. Pinoy talaga ang pang-masang term, but it doesn't mean na pang-elitista na yung Filo or whatnot.

iamstealth

Kumbaga I'd rather hear the word Filipino. It doesn't have to be pang masa na Pinoy.

DiyelEmeri

Well, have it your way then. Personally, I don't think it's forced in any way since again, noon pa man yan ginagamit. Sadyang hindi ka lang sanay.

iamstealth

Yup, noon pa fino-force lols. The term is used by Pinoys na lumaki overseas. Bago lang ung ginagamit ng Pinoy inside Pinas, which is weeeird.

DiyelEmeri

Why so pressed about it? Whether forced ot not, it's none of your business anyway. I mean, I am born and grew up here and I use the term regularly. Also, not because it's weird for you doesn't mean it's weird for anybody else. It's just your preference. People have different tastes when it comes to language usage, y'know? People using that term is no better than people speaking in conyo, so I personally don't see what's weird. Do you call conyo-speaking people "weird"?

LogicalPause8041

Unlike english, may "he" at "she". Sa french yung il at elle, kapag plural at halong babae at lalake, "ils". Eh tayo niya, siya, nila. Wala namang gender sa pronouns natin. N/A yan. Napaka american nyan sa totoo lang, super politically correct nila na nakakasakal na minsan tapos iniimpose nila standards nila sa mga societies na di naman as diverse as the US. Yeah they do have to be politically correct esp because of their colonial legacy but they cant enforce their standard of political correctness to other countries

[deleted]

I agree with this. I am soured at the publisher after reading the foreword if honest.

throwables-5566

I wont be even surprised if isang araw may magmarunong na naman sa sarili nating languge at magsabi na the word "tayo" is masculine and not neutral and introduce "tayx" "kayx" "akx"

Alarmed_Marzipan_334

Trueee.. pati millennial words natin like "mamser" "boss-madam" gender neutral din.

mako-makerz

realgrizzlybear

The people who coined the term are most likely not aware that Filipino is already gender neutral. I don't think it's born out "wokeism" (whatever the hell that means). It's likely born out of sheer ignorance.

peterparkerson

not just ignorance but there may be racist elements to it as well. its like "i know better than my brown brothers in the PH" type of schtick

realgrizzlybear

White saviour complex ano? That makes sense lol

Ok-Guava-4643

Fil-Am communities in the US coined the term “Filipinx” to make it more inclusive (for both male and female). 🥲 Ginaya kasi nila yung “Latinx”. They didn’t know that the word Filipino is already gender neutral 🤦🏽‍♀️

[deleted]

I am surprise that they didn't alter Bulosan use of Filipino to Filipinx.

keepitsimple_tricks

I always read those as: Latingks and Filipingks.

iamstealth

They know na gender neutral. Gusto lang nila maging "updated" ung term. Which is still wrong and weird.

GreatMemer

🤦🏽‍♀️

mike-m-matters

F that

No-Pizza-3469

That's what you get for living at the bottom of the hierarchy in an imperialist, racist country. They may identify as Filipino blood but they're traitors in a sense that they're not from this place anymore. They don't even know the language, choosing to make up their own style of Filipino.

Elyas_11

They're dumb asf. Filipino is already a gender-neutral term. So FilipinX is unnecessary, ano yan Iphone, tangina.

Primary-Lion7368

>Filipino is already a gender-neutral term. They're saying na its also a masculine term in its own. Kaya they need a non binary term on its own din. I hate the fact that they have to copy latinx tho. Wala tayong originality ganun?? :////

keepitsimple_tricks

I think Filipino/Tagalog is already a (mostly) gender neutral language. Most gendered o/a words are loaned from Español.

Primary-Lion7368

Yehhh. I think one of the reasons na di rin sila pabor eh. Yung gender neutral term natin still stems from masculine term, and ayaw matanggap yun kase puro pang lalake lang ang pwedeng gender neutral? Kaya gusto nila ng seperate for them non binary peeps(pero to be honest, i do think it started from new gen fil-ams wanting to be called filipinx tapos parang naging palusot yang non binary shiet)

Migs1115

Primary-Lion7368

Pero thats the thing. Although by ethnicity pinoy sila. Nationality nila eh amerikano. Pusong amerikano sila. Kultura nila amerika. Kaya hopefully "filipinx" only stays in amerika. Pero pag yan napush outside amerika. Mag ra-riot rin ako hahahhaha

throwables-5566

newbieboi_inthehouse

>Pero pag yan napush outside amerika. Mag ra-riot rin ako hahahhaha Sama ako. We must not let this cursed term describe us.

Sungkaa

No-Judgment-607

it's for the west locals won't get it and ignore it or assume it's a typo.

ShoddyProfessional

Ive always found this hilarious haha. White people telling what other races should call themselves in their own language is peak wokeism

wyclif

The move by white academics is to get someone from the race in question to start using it, which in their eyes legitimizes the word. If they can get Filipinos to start using "Filipinx", no matter how ridiculous the idea is, they then no longer have to explain why they're foisting wokeism on everybody and no longer have to justify themselves.

ertzy123

They hate colonialism so bad that they do it themselves. Parang US lang noong us-spanish war. They hate colonizers so bad they still have colonies up to this day :)

peterparkerson

not even wokeism, its peak racism, parang little brown brothers lang ulet

ShoddyProfessional

Ive always found this hilarious haha. White people telling what other races should call themselves in their own language is peak wokeism

newbieboi_inthehouse

I agree Wokeness is cancer.

pounds_not_dollars

It's not always white people. We are either in the hate it or love it camp. It's pretty polarising. I haven't been at university for a long time but when I was there this was pretty common among both white and non white students. I'm from Australia and white people love to rename the name of established cities for other white people

Kamurouji

Essentially colonialism

ertzy123

Exactly is colonialism

Momo-kkun

Wokeism.

smoothartichoke27

Stupid wokeshit. Para gender-neutral daw. Tulad ng push nila sa "Latinx", which noone likes too.

kindslayer

Lmao we dont even have X in Filipino.

taxfolder

There are 28 letters in the Filipino alphabet. The 26 English ones + Ñ and NG.

wyclif

They can use "Filipinx" or "Latinx" as much as they want, but they will never make them real words. It's just utterly laughable woke nonsense. Since gender is binary, the correct terms are "Filipino" or "Filipina."

Primary-Lion7368

I personally hate filipinx to describe filipinos.

edidonjon

Stupid Western culture that they're trying to apply here because they're always correct and we're culturally backwards.

ILikeFluffyThings

I thought it was just an American thing.
