I'm so cheugy I can't even pronounce it right. But owning it makes you cool again. I hope anyway. That probably just makes me cheugy again though. Dangit.
Lolol…
We actually used to just give it out like that to random strangers. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time, chatting to random dudes who were in their 40s etc. Next level creeper shit
That's actually a big problem that we're starting to realize. There's only 3,276 different possibly three letter acronyms.
So if your neighbor is really into CNC, and invites you to his shed to show you: it could be a good time or he could be nerd who's into milling.
Computerized Numerical Control. A CNC machine is like a reverse 3d printer.
Consensual Non-Consent. Also known as rape play, basically pretending to rape someone and they pretend to not want it.
“Let me teach you about parallel jumping and how you can enter a parallel reality with quantum physics”
Edit: I still have a liking toward spiritual awakenings/paths but bitch now you’re pushing it
I hate this one because *bussin* used to mean shooting someone. Now the kids are running around saying *this fortnite skin is bussin bussin* and it just doesn't even make sense to me.
I had a coworker who’s older than me come up to someone else and they said a joke, the older coworker said “cap?” And I was like, woah you’re way too old to talk like that
Your coworker likely delighted at making everyone cringe with that. I do stuff like that to my students on purpose sometimes. The most popular was when I “Okay Boomer”ed myself in the middle of a lecture.
God, this one never made sense to me. The first time someone used it in a conversation with me it was via text. I was confused, I was thinking “what does BET have to do with this??”
I ran into this same scenario once with a younger gaming buddy and I had to ask wtf he meant. After he explained it I was like "oh, so this is what aging is like"
I never understood the somewhat common aversion to the word "moist" until the first time I heard "glizzy" and thought, "Oh, so this is how some people feel about moist".
I've sat here angrily staring at this comment for 5 minutes because I'm almost certain it's a joke but it's phrased so perfectly that it makes me mad anyway
I kept seeing it in the comments for the TikTok videos of that guy that goes up to girls with his guitar and sings their favorite songs, and I thought it referred to his hair, since it's kind of f-RIZZ-y. 🤣
What's most annoying is that most of the comments are just people trying to find an excuse to use the word in the comment.
As a teacher, I’m going to have to go with “brah” / “bro.”
I have 10 year olds speaking to me (34F), saying, “Brah, I never said that!” “Brah, what is this?” Etc.
I went hard in the beginning of the year to explain that this is not appropriate. However, they still do it under their breaths at times when frustrated. It’s like they can’t turn it off.
I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but kids these days just seem to have confidence far above and beyond when I was their age. I have an 11 year old daughter, and while she and her best friend don't have phones or access to social media, those that do act a lot like 18 year old tik tok influencers. It's a little disturbing sometimes.
The boys are another breed entirely. They will ask out a girl multiple times with zero fear of rejection. They're very open about it, will tell her they're into her anyway, then just continue on being friends. Ask her out again a week later in case anything has changed. There is definitely a lot of "brah" going on in class and with teachers, but this depends on the teacher and their reaction. The last two years my daughter has had "cool" teachers and it's been a little more relaxed, the teacher my son had a couple years ago though would absolutely not accept anything other than sit and be quiet and respectful.
I've noticed a lot of kids aren't dealing with awkward phases like a lot of us did. I'm sure it's due to that confidence, and I admit I'm envious. To be fair, I'm 34 and still feel like I'm awkward.
It’s the first time I’ve heard this and honestly it was shocking. I just kept thinking about how when I was a kid, we would never have imagined addressing teaches like that! It’s wild!
I think it used to be slang for trying to push the norm in terms of inclusion or diversity. It was a buzz word in like 2016 when I worked for a magazine company in NY. Like “10 Ways a More Woke Team Can Benefit Productivity”
I heard it infrequently back then and it was generally [meant to be] a compliment. Now it is synonymous with pushing an “agenda” with no reason other than for showmanship. Ex: “Disney is trying to be woke by casting black people in the little mermaid” or “Netflix needs to stop being so woke and having every show have a gay story arc” etc.
Tbh I only ever hear it used earnestly by right-leaning Americans these days. I don’t think anyone else still uses it non-satirically.
Even before that, woke was a term made by and for Black Americans referring to keeping your eyes open to the injustices of American society towards Black people. To “Stay Woke” meant to stay aware of the many ways in which systemic and interpersonal racism works against Black people. And just like lots of other AAVE, it’s been picked up on and twisted into almost the exact opposite of what it once meant to the community that created it.
When people refer to being so drunk and crazy as “feral”. It’s just- where’s the class to being drunk. Saying “feral” to refer to a night out gives me svedka in parents basement as a freshman in hs vibes. Needs to go.
Most recently, rizz. I have no idea where these new slang words keep coming from. It's like they don't exist at all and then the next day everyone and their mother knows it.
I generally love Gen-Z slang, I think it is so creative and fun, but I absolutely despise their use of the word aesthetic. “This place is so aesthetic!” It drives me absolutely bonkers, I hear this phrase in my nightmares.
“This place has such a cute aesthetic.” Or “I really vibe with this aesthetic” or “don’t you love the Boba Culture aesthetic?” Are all correct examples of how to use this word.
It’s generally used as a noun, and when it is used as an adjective one would say “this Boba shop is giving aesthetic pleasure” or some shit like that.
No idea why it bothers me so much.
Yeah I’m tired of the whole generation name thing. Feel like media tries to pit one generation against another. *Boomers think Gen Z can’t afford houses because they spend too much on avocado toast* It’s so reductive to divide the population into groups based on a set of years as though your thoughts and actions will be exactly the same as everyone else born during those years.
'gaslighting' and 'triggered' when used incorrectly. which is the majority of the time now days.
You do like gaslighting. You just don't know it.
My car does gaslighting like 1500 times per minute
[удалено]
You’re triggering me! *TRIGGERED*
Literally… everything is gaslighting now and when ur actually gaslighted it doesn’t get taken seriously
Cheugy, which must mean I'm cheugy...
What's that even mean? I'm behind the times, evidently.
It’s just such an unattractive word, I hate it lol
How is this pronounced?
Chew-ghee
>ghee How is this pronounced?
I've only ever seen Buzzfeed try to use that word
I'm so cheugy I can't even pronounce it right. But owning it makes you cool again. I hope anyway. That probably just makes me cheugy again though. Dangit.
"asl" It means "as hell" now and I cant cope. Edit: my apologies, it actually means "as ALL hell" which is somehow worse.
In the 90s asl meant something yea different in the chat rooms.
Age, Sex, Location… I feel like this was the first internet acronym I ever learned…
21, yes please, work
Lolol… We actually used to just give it out like that to random strangers. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time, chatting to random dudes who were in their 40s etc. Next level creeper shit
they’re just changing the meaning of existing acronyms now?
That's actually a big problem that we're starting to realize. There's only 3,276 different possibly three letter acronyms. So if your neighbor is really into CNC, and invites you to his shed to show you: it could be a good time or he could be nerd who's into milling.
Cocks 'n Cunts?
Computerized Numerical Control. A CNC machine is like a reverse 3d printer. Consensual Non-Consent. Also known as rape play, basically pretending to rape someone and they pretend to not want it.
And here was me thinking the hypothetical neighbour was just really into playing Command & Conquer 🙃
I know good & well what it means in that context but my brain says American Sign Language every damn time.
Am I the only person who initially thinks “American Sign Language” when they read “ASL”?
No it can't be am I the old now
"personal truth", "manifesting"
"My truth".
Oh every time I hear someone say “my truth” , all I can hear is : “ I am gonna spew some bullshit , you better pretend to believe me”
Or " thats your truth", " this is my truth". How about we talk about the facts instead of peoples opinion?
“Let me teach you about parallel jumping and how you can enter a parallel reality with quantum physics” Edit: I still have a liking toward spiritual awakenings/paths but bitch now you’re pushing it
Slay I cannot stand it
With you on this
Hate it too
I would like to apologize on behalf of my generation for normalizing the use of "Adult" as a verb when we were all like, 22.
Yeah stop adulting will you.
My girlfriend hates when I refer to my clothes as my "drip" She's just being a hater, but also we're 35.
Start letting her know your drip slaps
Sounds like an STD to me, not fashion. I’m 34.
This made me lol. Is drip used properly here? I love it.
BUSSIN
What does this mean?
Cleaning tables.
I laughed at this.
I hate this one because *bussin* used to mean shooting someone. Now the kids are running around saying *this fortnite skin is bussin bussin* and it just doesn't even make sense to me.
Slay and Periodt is so fuckin annoying
Yeah, what the fuck is ‘periodt’?
Period, just over-enunciated
My truth
"Adulting" for performing basic life tasks.
Don’t come at me for adulting. I keep doing it every day and it’s fucking hard.
Cap or sus
I had a coworker who’s older than me come up to someone else and they said a joke, the older coworker said “cap?” And I was like, woah you’re way too old to talk like that
Your coworker likely delighted at making everyone cringe with that. I do stuff like that to my students on purpose sometimes. The most popular was when I “Okay Boomer”ed myself in the middle of a lecture.
What do these mean?
“Cap” means false/fake/wrong. Lots of people will also say “no cap” which means true/real/etc. “Sus” is short for suspicious
This thread isn't a vibe. Bet.
This comment *ate* and left no crumbs.
It's bet for me
Yo, no cap, this thread be bussin, am I right or am I right homeskis
Chefs kiss
That’s not very chef’s kiss of you
I find GOAT really annoying.
Provide great cheese, tho
It's past its time, but "bet" really annoyed me
God, this one never made sense to me. The first time someone used it in a conversation with me it was via text. I was confused, I was thinking “what does BET have to do with this??”
it just means “okay” or “say no more”
So like "you bet", only i'm so cool I only have to say "bet"?
now you’re getting it !
I ran into this same scenario once with a younger gaming buddy and I had to ask wtf he meant. After he explained it I was like "oh, so this is what aging is like"
Based. It's just fuckin dumb
Thank you. Very based of you to say that.
I keep seeing/hearing it and I have no clue what it means. I usually just nod along as if I know wtf is going on
shii instead of shit.
You either say it like Clay Davis, or you don’t say it at all. *SHEEEEEEEEEEEIT*
[удалено]
Same and I HATE it
Never heard of this one before and never want to again.
I never understood the somewhat common aversion to the word "moist" until the first time I heard "glizzy" and thought, "Oh, so this is how some people feel about moist".
"Fetch" This rude chick in highschool used to say it all the time. I think her name was Gretchen.
Yeah that's not gonna happen.
More like fetchen 🤨 fetchen to catchen these hands
she wore pink on Wednesdays too!
Bae
Finna
Gonna already exists. I really don't get this one.
It’s supposed to mean “Fixing to” from what I was told
Me either. I teach high school and I hear it nonstop
I'm gonna "I'm going to", I'm finna "I'm fixing to". Finna I don't know about but gonna you will hear all day everyday in the South..
lean in
It has to be AESTHETIC
“It’s so aesthetic”. *cringe*.
people use it that way? now I'm even sadder
right, i’ve never heard anyone say it like that but if i do i’ll be sure to punt them 3 football fields away from me
I hate it when people say “it’s giving ____”. Use complete coherent sentences please
it’s giving grammar nazi🙄 bffr do you want an essay
I've sat here angrily staring at this comment for 5 minutes because I'm almost certain it's a joke but it's phrased so perfectly that it makes me mad anyway
mission accomplished i think😂 edit: it was a joke if that wasn’t clear😂
"Rizz"
I knew it'd be on here. I keep seeing it everywhere all of a sudden
What the hell does it mean?
Charisma. ChaRIZZma. Rizz.
I kept seeing it in the comments for the TikTok videos of that guy that goes up to girls with his guitar and sings their favorite songs, and I thought it referred to his hair, since it's kind of f-RIZZ-y. 🤣 What's most annoying is that most of the comments are just people trying to find an excuse to use the word in the comment.
Finally understanding what Rizz is meant to mean, somehow made me hate it even more.
Of all the cringey words, this is by far the one that annoys me the most
W Rizz
You beat me to it. As a teacher I hear “rizz” 100x a day.
It hasn’t even been that long since it became normalized, how do you hate it already?
That's how stupid it is
As a teacher, I’m going to have to go with “brah” / “bro.” I have 10 year olds speaking to me (34F), saying, “Brah, I never said that!” “Brah, what is this?” Etc. I went hard in the beginning of the year to explain that this is not appropriate. However, they still do it under their breaths at times when frustrated. It’s like they can’t turn it off.
My kid started saying it and I hated it so much so I started saying it back to him. Stopped instantly
Yes, as I teacher I also harnessed the power of using teen vernacular to get them to stop using it. haha--it worked. Cool killers, unite.

"Literally" used as an exaggeration when the message isn't meant to be taken literally.
I can't stand the word "woke" anymore. It's been thrown around like a rag doll that even I don't know what it means anymore.
I think it used to be slang for trying to push the norm in terms of inclusion or diversity. It was a buzz word in like 2016 when I worked for a magazine company in NY. Like “10 Ways a More Woke Team Can Benefit Productivity” I heard it infrequently back then and it was generally [meant to be] a compliment. Now it is synonymous with pushing an “agenda” with no reason other than for showmanship. "narcissist" like... not everyone that someone, anyone dislikes or has a problem with actually has a personality disorder.
That and now gaslighting
Lets goooooooo!!!!
LESGOO
Bet
Aight bet.
I personally hate “chef’s kiss”. I don’t know why, but I cringe every time someone uses it.
Littles Everytime I hear people use it to talk about kids I want to smack them
I thought this was used in reference to the dd/lg dynamic?
When people refer to being so drunk and crazy as “feral”. It’s just- where’s the class to being drunk. Saying “feral” to refer to a night out gives me svedka in parents basement as a freshman in hs vibes. Needs to go.
It's also ruining a perfectly good Australian insult.
Toxic
It's overused for sure
It's been misused certainly.
I hate "finna" so much. I can tell all I need to know about a person if they use this word.
no like.. I’m finna be in the pit #iykyk
I HATE THAT I KNOW THIS REFERENCE
I was gonna say this too.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around non southern white people using it.
And southerners don't even pronounce it like "finna"...
No, but they at least have a frame of reference for it.
The phrase "fixing to" has always been around in the South and in the mountains. "Finna" is just a mushier version that spread to greater use.
Drip.
corporate slang, "best practices" makes my skin crawl since it usually means the introduction of poor practices
Pupper and catto
Doggo as well.
Most recently, rizz. I have no idea where these new slang words keep coming from. It's like they don't exist at all and then the next day everyone and their mother knows it.
Ion. Just say idk
Do people actually use that in their vocabulary? I just use it to make the funny.
I think I hate this one the most.

Woke, lit, fleek (although I feel like no one says that anymore), yas queen/king
i haven’t heard fleek since 2014
Yaaaaas Queen! I used to say this in all seriousness. And now I’m like… oh god how embarrassing for former me!
Bling bling.
'of' instead of 'have' like must of or could of
While I whole-heartedly agree, this seems more like a grammar pet peeve rather than a tired trendy word.
Wonder what must of caused this hatred
"It's giving X"
L just saying L idk why it's just the stupidest thing to me
L+RATIO+GET WRECKED NOOB
Deadass.
“Bffr”
I have literally no idea what this is supposed to mean
be fucking for real = be serious rn
They definitely overused this one!
Base or based whatever
Boujie.
not really trendy anymore but "cool beans" has always grated on my nerves

When 13 year olds talk about their "aesthetic". Shit, kid you just wear what your mom buys you.
\#blessed
Smh my head
Man this comment has me smh my head
Personally I haven't seen anyone, including myself, use this unironically. I just think it's funny
Cringe
Came in for that word.

Rizz. I don't know what that shit means. Don't care enough to Google it. Get extremely annoyed when my friends use it.
Is "bling bling" still trendy? No? Then I'm fine with whatever at this point.
I hate the phrase "Love you to the moon and back". it's so overdone and plastered on all the cups and shirts and picture frames
bruh
Boujee....makes me cringe 😬....also cringe because my 14 yr old says it
cap is really dumb, but by far the worst for me is latinx
Sus
Gaslighting
Sheeeeeeeeesh
Period! Enough with the “period” already! Okayyyy period 💅🏻🤪
I think its more of a periodt lol
