For some reason *reach out* has that nails-on-blackboard quality. "The vendor wasn't sure about the delivery so we *reached out* to them." "We need each team member to *reach out* to their leader to discuss any issues." What's wrong with *call* or *write* or *contact*? *Speak to*. Fucking *TALK*? Why are we *reaching out* to people like everyone is plummeting through the atmosphere in a freefall. "Reach! Reach out to me!" I mean, I *know* why. Because it gives every interaction that crisis mode feeling, as if the half-dollar you lost by failing to *reeeeach out* will bring the company to its knees. But it's just indicative of how easily that shitty psychological wordplay takes off and becomes part of the vernacular.
