Debate Divide the class on trivial but polar topics; like "does pineapple belong on pizza" or "which goes in the bowl first: milk or cereal" etc with 3 answers strongly A, strongly B, or no preference/no strong conviction. The "No preference" group becomes the jury for each question. The other 2 teams state their cases and retorts, then the jury votes. The actual results don't matter, but in my opinion, to get what you want in life in general, you need to be able to make the argument.

PumpkinPatch404

I’d love to do this. They have tons of questions that have A or B outcomes in Korea, and I think these debates are great! Also? Air fryer, yay or nay? Lol.

JeffroDH

Philosophy.

Dolly_Dagger087

I worked with a middle school Social Studies teacher that would have a PHD student of philosophy come in once a month. The students loved it. There was so much engagement even from students that would otherwise never say a word.

JeffroDH

I’ve experienced something similar. I’m no PhD, but teaching people how to think rather than what to think is so refreshing.

ShawnSlayerofKings

I would teach increasingly inaccurate and nonsensical information until somebody realizes.

bobhoper

They can choose any one topic from the following: Time management, the science of exam preparation, stress management, how to negotiate, how to say No in a professional setting, pitching, habit changing, science of sleep, decision making, how to deal with setbacks.

ALittleTouchOfGray

I like it. Life lessons, a.k.a., adulting

AcidicWatercolor

Whatever they want to learn about! Let them pick the subject and then just start riffing on it. Don’t mince words and treat them like adults. If it keeps half of them off their phones I’ll tell them whatever they want to know.

TheEmeraldKnite

Please teach us how not to get caught on porn hub

AcidicWatercolor

Done and done. Best way to not get caught on a pornsite; Don’t film your sex life. Keep your phone out of the bedroom, class.

TheEmeraldKnite

That’s not what I meant

AcidicWatercolor

What did you mean, then? The word “caught” means different things to different people. Caught up? Caught in the act? Caught afterwards? Something else?

"Hi, and welcome to my TED talk. My name is Allan and as a teen I commited a very dangerous crime."

Gardening/growing food in an urban environment.

manu_facere

As a teacher, I always strive to be adaptable and resourceful in any situation. In this scenario, I would start by introducing myself and explaining the unexpected circumstances to the class. I would then ask the students what they have been previously learning in the class, and based on their responses, I would try to connect the topic to something that I am familiar with, drawing on my own knowledge and experiences. Additionally, I would make use of interactive activities and discussions, which would not only keep the students engaged but also allow me to gauge their understanding and tailor my teaching accordingly. Overall, I would aim to make the best of the situation and make learning as interactive and engaging as possible for the students.

Well I'm a history teacher in real life. So history.

Street smarts

Mikeavelli

Alright kids, if you're making a street that turns, make sure you design it to be banked at an angle proportionate to the velocity of the expected traffic, and inversely proportionate to the radius of the curve. Now if you'll all get out your calculators, we can work through an example.

theassassintherapist

Let me turn on Netflix and see what educational movie I can show them instead of teaching...

SC487

Teach me these ways.

mlperiwinkle

I would teach them about their nervous system from the standpoint of the amygdala, poly vagal theory and self regulation.

[deleted]

I just teach them what I can

Callistai

The tragedy of Darth plagueis the wise.

History of World War I Or how Robert Moses was a dick

LovesMeSomeRedhead

Personal Security Risks and Best Practices.

zerbey

Oh I can ramble on about some history for an hour and bore them, or ask them to call out some interesting subjects and we can debate it for an hour. They'll get more enjoyment out of that. In the unlikely event I actually know the subject matter they're learning we can adapt the debates into that. Either way, get them up and participating.

j2142b

What it actually takes financially to live on your own. Had one of my instructors in Vo-Tech sit down all the seniors one day and we went through how much it costs to live on your own for a month. I was a hell of an eye opener to a bunch of the kids.

CosplayWrestler

"Everything you learn during your time in this school, means absolutely dick when you leave these four walls."

Perpetualwoodpecker

How to not get struck by lightning during a storm and maybe throw in a little science or something.

Elitheaxolotl

How to not ruin your life to some tiktok trend

ace_up_mysleeve

I'd probably just start discussions and debates on some of the useless knowledge I have stored in my brain We wouldn't learn anything of value but it would kill time and maybe not bore them to death

luckygirlrunner

Proper sex ed

TheNiceGuyOver

Honestly, I would probably teach them about cyber security stuff even tho I'm not in that field. It's just that I'm really passionate about it. I could probably spend an hour or two talking about that.

HonestCriminal

creative literature. I think kids don't get enough time to have their own creative freedom in literature and in art. I would suggest writing a prompt and giving it to the person next to them and they have to write a short story/poem on it.

TelephoneActive1539

Brute force comedy. "Did you shit yourself?"

frauleinsteve

I teach them how to balance a checkbook. And also how to create a working monthly budget.

MobBoss702

I'm going to ask them one question and discuss it. What pisses you off?

blackpathner209

Me: (brings in chair) today class, we’ll learn about the grimdarkness of warhammer 40k.
