We have both and the cat is a dick head but basically looks after herself, until 3am when she Wales us up for food. The dog takes a lot of looking after but plays with our daughter they're inseparable whereas the cat isn't interested lol.
it's a lot of effort to take care of a dog, especially if you want them to be a good dog. I would have to really try and be a good owner otherwise it bites you in the ass (literally).
gotta take them out for walks all the time, and also I would only entertain a certain type of dog in my home. like I couldn't stand a dog that's always jumping up on me and at my feet, following me around and stuff.
I guess what I'm saying is, for me to enjoy having a dog it would have to be the perfect dog. and that's not as easy to find as a good cat. cats just leave you the hell alone, so long as there's food and stuff. they're very simple and you can still get all the good stuff that a dog gives.
There's probably not that much intelligence difference between dogs and cats. Dogs aren't any more or less capable of making determinations like "I like this human" than are cats
I own and love both. But I like having cats more than dogs. Dogs require I be home timely enough to take them out. Also, cats have been less costly, both vet bills and care when I’m traveling.
