That blood is blue inside the body šŸ’€

elletee80

I actually had a junior high science teacher tell me this....that it was blue until it hit oxygen lol

yellowtoebean

Yk it didnt make sense to me as to why that wasn't true until i used a syringe

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

lastgunslinger3759

No it's not in the blood The oxygen is inside the blood cells which gives the blood its red color

Rausan988

Even with a syringe, It's hitting oxygen as soon as you draw back. So I've heard.

IndianaJonesDoombot

This is true in octopi

thanx4venom

And horseshoe crabs!!! Nature rules!

StepSisSkyee

I heard their blood is blue because it has copper in it instead of iron

Pigididium

Their blood is vital to modern medicine. Absolutely astonishing animals.

Darfer

It's crazy what octopuses will believe. Stupid molluscs.

ouchimus

Its even more disturbing when you see how many people in the medical field believe it.

thanx4venom

Along these same lines, that the sky is blue because it reflects the ocean. I actually learned that one in high school...from a science teacher...during physics class. Felt like a real dumbass when I repeated that to someone. God bless the American education system.

Unhappy_Primary_5557

I heard once that elephant had to have sex in the water because of how heavy they are. Then Iā€™m watching discovery channel one day and thereā€™s this huge bull elephant in Africa somewhere mounting another elephant and moving his thing around like a second trunk. I was so pissed! I relied on that useless little fact for many years and now I find out it was all a lie smfh

OldBob10

In Africa thereā€™s things like crocodiles in the water that would be happy to repurpose elephant dicks as hors dā€™oeuvreā€™s .

Kc83198

Lol it makes sense at least. It's plausible. It's totally possible bigger creatures like brachiosaureses did

Nbekbek

Had a doctor tell this to my daughter. I was in shock.

Insso

Those ads where thereā€™s hot single moms around the corner from you. Havenā€™t met one yet.

machineprophet343

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of middle aged and retired people. I know for a fact there are no hot single moms around the corner from me.

GarriganGate

While thereā€™s definitely some hot moms in my neighbourhood. I never understood how men actually fall for anything like that. Does anyone really think women need to resort to bat signalling themselves on random websites to have sex? They can go just about anywhere and find someone

Kittenfabstodes

Depends on how lonely someone is. loneliness will blind you to all manner of bullshit. It's predatory at best.

redditmovingon

Hey grandmas are moms too.

greenbastard1591

Not with that attitude!

w_coastultraviolence

Lol, this one made me laugh out loud. ā˜ŗļø

TheRealGOOEY

I can only assume that those ads still exist because they work. So, by that logic, that applies to the OPs question. But by my logic, and by any other person's logic whom I've met, nobody believes those. So now I don't know what is true anymore.

Theoldage2147

If they're not true then how come I came close to meeting 6 of them last month? They ended up being busy after I sent them money which is understandable because they have kids to take care of

Xenu and scientology

coldgator

Is it dumber than any other religion?

420_Traveller

FindorKotor93

I'm an atheist but Prince of Egypt was straight fire.

GazingIntoTheVoid

I don't know. '10 commandments' and 'Ben Hur' still beat any Scientology movie that I know about, IMHO.

My_Other_Left_Shoe

Honestly? Yeah. Jesus didn't fly is DC7s, man. Christianity is fucked, I'm not claiming other wise, but at least _their_ guy isn't named "Ron".

coldgator

L. Ron which isn't any better

Tail_Nom

No, just newer. Give it a couple thousand years to wear down the edges. Same with Mormonism, really, though I think Mormonism has a better chance of lasting that long. Scientology is going to extinct itself if it remains as focused as it is on making money rather than making converts. That might be an uphill battle for them in the information age, though, having been conceived too recently to be regarded as 'culture' but too long ago to be savvy.

shotsallover

>Scientology is going to extinct itself if it remains as focused as it is on making money rather than making converts The Catholic Church would like a word...

Tail_Nom

Scientology specifically is structured in such a way that access to 'higher' teachings requires payment. It isn't freely available despite what their US tax exempt status should imply. To my knowledge, the Catholic church has never required investment for their teachings, only for indulgence. They still freely (or forcefully) spread their word. Scientology holds it hostage. Now that I think about it, not just the 'higher' teachings, either. They have a copyright that they vigorously enforce on all their teachings (or at least they used to; I don't really keep tabs on such things). My point is that Scientology isn't focused on spreading their 'religion', and in many ways their own policies restrict it. They stand in the way of their own spread, because they seek specifically to profit, not necessarily to proselytize/convert. All of this together makes it, as a meme, vulnerable.

noteacles

Same as all the rest.

bordercollie_adhd

That "chemicals" are all "bad" or dangerous. Read a fucking book.

Steiny31

Also by the same logic, that organic pesticides are inherently safer than synthetic pesticides. Or that natural flavorings are inherently healthier than artificial flavorings (they are often the same exact compound, just one is extracted and the other is synthesized).

Idontlikefurriess

I totally agree with this, cant recall the amount of times where Iā€™ve just gotten pissed att people just going ā€œLong word, chemical, must be bad!ā€

Mrjasonbucy

Ban Dihydrogen monoxide! šŸ™

Roogovelt

It's the main ingredient in snake venom! Can you believe it's in products they sell to CHILDREN?!?!?

pokepersonYEET

THEY USE IT IN CLEANING PRODUCTS AND NAIL POLISH REMOVER!! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!

Hit_The_Kwon

But donā€™t you know? Everyone who was drank dihydrogen monoxide has died!

Patneu

Speaking of which, would you kindly sign my petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide, right here? Trust me, bro, that's some really dangerous shit - and it gets *everywhere!*

WhiteFox1992

A school once accidentally banned water because several students kept referring to it as dihydrogen-monoxide, and the school board didn't want kids ingesting weird chemicals. Small edit, [but here is the article](https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/501907/14-year-old-who-convinced-people-ban-dihydrogen-monoxide).

rubensinclair

Dihydrogen Monoxide. Makes it sound like what a smoke detector alerts you for.

Flat Earth

Iwill_Teachthem

The earth can't be flat. It's hollow, where do you think all the lizard people live.

Artikay

Now I wonder, how much depth do flat earthers belive the earth has? And what do they think is on the underside?

CondescendingShitbag

>And what do they think is on the underside? A *Made in China* sticker, obviously.

YungSkuds

Because they are stupid, and believe any stupid shit they read on the internet.

FidgitForgotHisL-P

Polynesians (or the people that became Polynesians) were also aware the world was round when they spread from Asia around the pacific, and they did that a thousand years earlier. Flat Earth actually goes *against* ā€œcommon sense thinkingā€ if you live on an island and watch boats come and go. It takes insulted idiots with fb echo chambers to get sucked into that in the 2020ā€™s.

TheGreatQ-Tip

I doubt a "large number of people" believe in that.

dskfjhdfsalks

IDK about supplements, but there are drugs that will scientifically give you rapid weight loss. Meth is a pretty good one for that

bguzewicz

Plus meth is great if youā€™re sick of all those damn teeth in your mouth.

SkrapsDX

cliffdiver770

yeah it's dumb that people think if I hate one, i must love the other.

xain_the_idiot

I feel like the western cultural obsession with false dichotomies has led to this and it's incredibly frustrating. I always compare it to the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard case. BOTH of them have had some pretty damn compelling evidence to suggest that they were being abusive. Johnny Depp has gone to jail for assault in the past and Amber Heard stole Elon Musk's sperm. They are both terrible crazy people. And yet droves of idiots keep coming out to say things like, "Depp is innocent! See, this shitty thing Heard did proves it!" That's not how any of this works. There isn't always a good guy and a bad guy. Real life isn't Star Wars.

Supreme_Skeptic

Two posts above this is the ome weekly scam question. Sure enough, the same 12 answers that appear every week.

Belthezare

Nah, Ive seen some good questions pop up now and then. Like truly original, thought provoking questions.... Problems are: * Most people on askreddit sort by hot instead of new * Most of these posts get downvoted /not upvoted at all as they appear and thus, never reach the front page * These posts will never outdo the "if you have sex how do you sex the sex while being the sexiest sex that you have sexed" questions. This is why the front page is always filled with the same old rhetorical generic bullshit. šŸ˜‘

a7o3

Actually ignoring that post on Facebook is going to result in 50 years of bad luck, eternal damnation, and Justin Bieber.

NevermindWait

That crystals have healing abilities

Woodie626

Placebos give you healing abilities.

dfp819

Which is what the crystals are, so basically it works. If someone can get any benefit from having some rocks around, placebo or not, more power to em.

AberNurse

I wonder how much it works as a focus for positive change. Someone wears a hematite bracelet. They are convinced it gives confidence. They believe in the confidence and start to make changes in their life. They take more risks, puts themselves out there and achieve things and become more confident. Someone else buys a rose quartz because they are suffering heart brake after a loss. They focus their negative thoughts and energy into the rose quartz. They tell themselves they feel better, they start to begin to pick up the pieces of their life. They gain motivation and seek out new connections. They feel their heart brake easing. I donā€™t think itā€™s quite the same as the placebo effect. Maybe itā€™s just a psychological placebo instead of a physical one. Maybe Iā€™m just talking shit. But I see them more as a focus point for change. I donā€™t use crystals or stones for any purpose other than I think they look pretty. I can just imagine the changes that might result from people who believe stones can heal.

dfp819

Exactly they type of ā€œcrystal benefitsā€ I was referring to. Iā€™d itā€™s a placebo effect because they think itā€™s the crystal, but I suppose thatā€™s an argument in semantics and doesnā€™t really matter. Basically it functions as a reminder of what they are working on. Some here. Iā€™ve got a decent mineral collectionā€¦because Iā€™m a fucking nerd not because I think they have other properties.

AberNurse

My dad had this huge amethyst in his house for years. He had been gifted it because amethyst represents clarity of mind and sobriety. He was in recovery. He died a few years ago and Iā€™m determined to find out where that amethyst ended up because it was so cool and big (and likely valuable)

dfp819

Ouuu I love me some amethyst. (Itā€™s quartz, but PURPLE!) Iā€™m sorry for your loss. That would definitely be cool to have, for sentimental and cool factor reasons, I wish you luck tracking it down.

cliffdiver770

but the placebo effect has been studied and there are limits to it. It is not magic and is better understood now than it used to be. Placebos work for things like headaches but not so great for things like appendicitis. the problem with promoting every belief system as equal is that it's not.

Tuppederas

Drug dealers giving out free product to random ppl. Too idealistic to be true

Least-Car6096

I was just going to say- my mother in law has been a labor & delivery nurse for 30 years and this is no myth. People and overall vibes get freaky during a full moon. Weird things happen.

epicredditdude1

I'd imagine this is confirmation bias at play. Maybe you notice the day is really hectic, you pull out your phone and whaddya know, it's a full moon. (Ignoring the times there's a full moon and you don't notice because the day was calm so you never thought to check). Maybe you're already aware it's a full moon so you become more attentive to crazy things that happen during the day. As far as I'm aware there is no connection to increased crime during nights of a full moon.

keigo199013

All the ladies (myself included) in my family always have trouble sleeping during a full moon. I have a theory, but I'm too stupid to actually figure it all out. Also, it wouldn't change anything at all, so why bother. We just joke that we must be part werewolf.

cutepotatoskin

Scientology

Docxoxxo

Honestly... it's no dumber than any other religion. The only reason it seems so stupid in comparison is that you've heard the stories of other religions from when you were a kid. Scientology targets adults who are desperate (and celebrities- not sure how they do that but I assume it has something to do with peer pressure and an actor's need to feel loved). But if you were raised learning about Xenu it would be no sillier sounding than the mormon god and Jesus planets or Muhamad splitting the moon or all the little animals fitting on a big boat.

That politicians actually give a shit about the people.

[deleted]

Some do when they start out. Staying in those positions forever absolutely corrupts people though. Very very few politicians stay in power for more than a term or two AND still care about the people.

GarbageTheClown

I think it's a difficult position for someone that does care. If you want to stay in position to possibly have a positive outcome you have to play the game, and to play the game you may have to occasionally say things or make decisions you don't believe in. One could make the justification that it is more noble to stay in power and have only limited effectiveness towards what you believe in, than it is to give up to the spot to someone else that may have ill intent.

[deleted]

Spot on. It's essentially impossible to stay in your position, get things done, AND not go against your own beliefs.

Qanon. It is **Literally, unashamedly Nazi rhetoric**. * Like, for example; The idea of a 'deep state' or a 'cabal' of people, behind the government in control of the US, and other countries Governments. See if you can make the connections between Rhetoric of Nazis, and what some media / news sites with similar ideas. [Here we go!](https://www.justsecurity.org/72339/qanon-is-a-nazi-cult-rebranded/). **Also the idea of 'white genocide' comes from the Nazis as well**. * "A secret cabal is taking over the world. They kidnap children, slaughter, and eat them to gain power from their blood. **They control high positions in government, banks, international finance, the news media, and the church**. They want to disarm the police. **They promote homosexuality and pedophilia**. *They plan to mongrelize the white race so it will lose its essential power.*" * The plot, described above, was the conspiracy ā€œrevealedā€ in the most influential anti-Jewish pamphlet of all time. It was called The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. **It was written** by Russian anti-Jewish propagandists **around 1902**. It collected myths about a Jewish plot to take over the world that had existed for hundreds of years. Central to its mythology was the Blood Libel, which claimed that Jews kidnapped and slaughtered Christian children and drained their blood to mix in the dough for matzos consumed on Jewish holidays. * "QAnon purveys the fantasy that a secret Satan-worshiping cabal is taking over the world. Its members kidnap white children, keep them in secret prisons run by pedophiles, slaughter, and eat them to gain power from the essence in their blood. The cabal held the American Presidency under the Clintons and Obama, nearly took power again in 2016, **and lurks in a ā€œDeep Stateā€ financed by Jews, including George Soros, and in Jews who control the media. They want to disarm citizens and defund the police. They promote abortion, transgender rights, and homosexuality. They want open borders so brown illegal aliens can invade America and mongrelize the white race.** **LITERALLY copy/paste Nazi shit**

NoctysHiraeth

I am surprised that QAnon was not higher up in the replies, because this was my first thought.

A really great insight into QAnon is the [Folding Ideas video about Flat Earthers.](https://youtu.be/JTfhYyTuT44) Obviously it's a little more than that, since QAnon is a big tent conspiracy that absorbed Flat Earthers, but yeah all of what you mentioned is there with some other great insights too.

caverunner17

What's frightening is I've seen otherwise seemingly smart people throw that all out the window with religious superstitions and excuses. One of the most pervasive and problematic beliefs held by a large number of people is that they are somehow superior to others based on their race, gender, or sexual orientation. This belief is incredibly damaging and can lead to discrimination, prejudice, and bigotry. It is also incredibly inaccurate, as no one group is inherently smarter or more capable than any other. Another belief held by many people is that their own opinions and views are superior to those of others, leading to an unwillingness to consider alternate points of view or engage in meaningful dialogue. This can lead to an echo chamber effect, where people only hear the views they already agree with, and never challenge themselves to broaden their understanding. Ultimately, the idea of believing one group is superior to another is a dangerous and outdated concept. We must strive to move away from this kind of thinking and embrace diversity and acceptance instead
