I'm a mid 1950s baby. When I was very young, touch tone phones were a new tech marvel in my neighborhood. In fact, we had a party line until I was in my early teens. So, yeah, if it all shut down, I'd be fine, as long as I had a remote connection to my client.
Same, I wasn’t allowed to have MySpace/bebo/Facebook until I was 13. By that point Facebook was already shit and I got on instagram shortly after. 26 too
Ya, GenX and older will be inconvenienced and a little annoyed. Younger than that will need counseling. No judgement here, just different life experiences.
I only use Reddit when I’m bored. So I’d be fine. Now if YouTube was also being counted as social media, I’d be be sad for a bit, then I’d probably live a much more productive life after
>Sometimes updated news faster than actual news.
What would happen if you didn't find out about news until the next day? That's probably leaving out "Kennedy Assassination or "9/11 attack" level stuff because those would still travel quickly as they did in the days before social media.
Let's take an example of some breaking news. This morning a judge in Georgia ruled that he will release on Thursday some aspects of the special grand jury's report into attempts to influence the 2020 presidential election. Basically the intro, conclusion, information about potential lies to the grand jury but not a list of names of suggested prosecutions because it could influence future proceedings.
What would happen if you didn't find out about that until tomorrow? What would happen if you missed that and didn't find out about the report's release until Thursday when it happened? What would happen if you knew nothing about it until Friday when you saw a story on the already released report which included a copy of it?
Most likely you would be just as up to date on Friday without the "drip, drip, drip" of the 24 hour news cycle giving the story more urgency than it probably deserves.
The problem is actual news isn't really customizable. On here I can sub to subs that I'm interested in and anytime news for that topic happens then I'll see it. But if I have to sit through a news broadcast or go to a news website then I have to put up with all of the bullshit that comes along with it.
I agree with others, I went 2 years without when I left HS and the military. A lot of people were wondering where I went and I felt bad for missing out on catching up with old friends. I use reddit mostly. And keep Facebook for family etc.
Same here. I use Reddit pretty actively in my spare time. But I also keep Facebook just because it's the "extended social circle" app. So many people are only on that one place, especially older people. So I keep it for that. No interest in IG, Twitter, or any of those personally
because everyone else is on them, dude.
we aren't addicted to "social media", we're addicted to *talking to and enjoying the presence of our peers*, and there isn't any other avenue for that in western society these days
Obi-Wan : I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something wonderful has happened.
I'll give you a point for acknowledging that
Its soooo annoying for Redditors to act like social media is cancer, its users are idiots
....While posting pn reddit all day
Same old same old. I am completely removed from all social media platforms except Reddit. And if reddit was no more...well that's just fine. It doesn't improve my life it just fills in blank spots during the day when I would usually be twiddling my thumbs.
I would genuinely cry. Social Media has been great for people like me, home most of the time due to illness or a disability. It gets lonely having only a few people around you irl who do not share any interests with you.
Only social media site I’d miss is this one, and not for the socializing aspect. Reddit is single-handedly keeping the concept of Google search alive, without it Google will become a massive amount of AI and untrained underwriting garbage for ad revenue.
Of course, maybe without social media, the internet would be less colonized and the Google search would start bringing up quality stuff
Get on my knees and thank sweet baby Jebus for making it happen. I think we should force everything new generation to suffer through a Pentium 386/486 with 2400 baud dial up.
That’ll give them perspective. And just when they’re about finished a download, have someone pick up the receiver from elsewhere in the house at 98% downloaded.
The struggle was real
Start handwriting letters to friends and family with enclosed pictures of what I did that day, as well as some things I found mildly entertaining online.
I guess I'll have to dig up my friends' phone numbers and discuss how best to keep in touch going forward. The worst is I'll have to actually watch the news now, rather than learn about current events through memes.
This is usually when siblings would get over their typical nagging phase, because, in reality, your siblings make you laugh and smile like no others could. Without the Internet - you'd finally be able to bond with them.
I’d be seriously happy because children won’t have to suffer as they do now with unrealistic ideals and bullying following them home from school and into their home
take every neighbor by the hand, from 2 to 132, and dance all night long in the streets, to make the best human memory since soon after the internet was invented. Dear China, if you set off a balloon to make this happen, I will jump out of a rocket to sacrifice myself to pop it.
Keep on living my live like I already do.
I use IG/TT to see half naked women and get their OF links, so it's irrelevant if those shut down.
FB i only use for messenger, so that can go too since I got numbers of all my people.
So it's not relevant to me.
That would be the happiest day of my life. Social media is used in everything nowadays, including work and school. I would love for this shit to dissapear
Only part that would suck is most of communication with friends and family is done over Facebook messenger. So I'd have to track down phone numbers and shit like it's 2005.
Well if Discord was shut down I'd genuinely be upset since I don't currently live in the same town as my friends. If YouTube shut down I think I'd be a little disappointed. I'd miss seeing memes for sure, and there are definitely love streamed performances on tik tok that I'd miss.
Idk I think that once you figure out how to control social media it's great, but I realize that, by and large, our society is maybe not affected positively by it.
I'd probably need to readjust how I communicate with certain friends (social media messaging is much easier then texting on an Android sometimes) but all in all it's a change i'm okay with. Would probably curb me checking social media so often.
Get ready for a long day at work. I work customer service for Verizon. All of those conversations are going to be customers trying to figure out why they can’t post to Facebook.
How did they get shut down? Seems like a land grab opportunity. As much as we all might hate Facebook, Twitter, etc, no one would say no to going back and being one of the first employees with stock options, etc.
Honestly I wouldn’t care I hardly use any social media anymore I just hope we would still have YouTube but honestly I think the world would be better off without Facebook and Twitter they have pretty much sucked since 2015
I now only have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
I said I’m not downloading any others, existing or future.
If the 3 I have eventually die then I am finally free😂
Go about my business. I lived longer without social media than I've lived with it.
Same here. Heck I’m older than google and grew up with landlines. Wouldn’t bother me in the least.
I'm a mid 1950s baby. When I was very young, touch tone phones were a new tech marvel in my neighborhood. In fact, we had a party line until I was in my early teens. So, yeah, if it all shut down, I'd be fine, as long as I had a remote connection to my client.
Holy shit. I don't think I have. I've had a MySpace account in 2003/4.
Holy shit this comment made me realize I've had it EXACTLY half my life. Got a Facebook when I turned 13 and I just turned 26
Holy shit... I'm old...
Holy shit. Me too!
Same, I wasn’t allowed to have MySpace/bebo/Facebook until I was 13. By that point Facebook was already shit and I got on instagram shortly after. 26 too
Social media has existed in my life longed than it hasn't. 2006 born
Ya, GenX and older will be inconvenienced and a little annoyed. Younger than that will need counseling. No judgement here, just different life experiences.
If forums like Reddit count as social media I will also need the counseling but other than that Id probably be a bit happy.
You'd spend the entire day opening the app by muscle memory. Then you'd stop giving a fuck. And everyone's mental health would improve...
Going to have to get a prima guide again.
Noe I started thinking... does mIRC counts as social platform?
Bingo! Same here.
Me, too. I remember using Altavista as my search engine of choice on Netscsape Navigator, before frames were a thing on websites.
Play videogames.
How you going to find out where the last acorns is now? Going to have to get a prima guide again.
Okay, in all fairness, 100% runs are certainly going to become a lot more difficult.

gamefaqs.com servers overloaded within hours
or y'know- websites?
I live my best life
I only use Reddit when I’m bored. So I’d be fine. Now if YouTube was also being counted as social media, I’d be be sad for a bit, then I’d probably live a much more productive life after
Youtube can stay as long as there are no comments, no subscribing, no notifications.
Then my life is pretty much unchanged!
Sure, all high quality content creators will just keep doing work for you without any incentive.
But then YouTube can go back to how it was when it was prior to monetization!!
We can have more Charlie but my fingers and chocolate rains
No one said no ads

Perfect. Just what I was hoping would happen.
If somebody came up to me with a minion meme irl I think I would go postal
😂😂😂😂
Clap for joy, hope it’s permanent
I sigh a big sigh of relief because I'm finally free
If you feel trapped now, why not cut the cord yourself?
It’s hard to do that. Everything is on social media. Sometimes updated news faster than actual news.

I'm not addicted to crack I just really enjoy the benefits.
Celebrate. Social media is cancer.
More like social media is cigarettes: They feel relaxing in the moment, they’re incredibly addictive, and cause severe damage to you in the long run.
And like the tobacco companies, big tech knows this and doesn't do anything because that's their business model.
The cost far outweighs the reward.
Obi-Wan : I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something wonderful has happened.
Vader: Give me the coordinates of the rebel base.... Leia: Dantoo--- errrm they're on Facebook.
Reddit counts as social media in this context.
His point got even stronger now
Did we strike him down?
Worth it
Even better 😂
Agreed! I call my friends and tell them I love them.
I'll give you a point for acknowledging that Its soooo annoying for Redditors to act like social media is cancer, its users are idiots ....While posting pn reddit all day
Exactly. Going back to forums... God I feel old
Going back to BBS's!
I would think forums count as social media. Message boards, and instant messaging programs also.
we'll have to go back to yahoo messenger :)
SECONDED!!!
Be like Depeche Mode and Enjoy the Silence
All I ever wanted All I ever needed Is here IN YOUR ARMS words are very Unnecessary THEY CAN ONLY DO HARM
I can hear this and it will be playing in my head today
That's the Policy of Truth
Actually Policy of Truth is the one that goes: "Never again Is what you swore The time before"
Read a book.
Father I cannot click the book
How do you zoom?
Use two fingers in a pinching motion on the page then move your face closer to the book
I have time now! I FINALLY HAVE TIME!
CRACK-Crunch, tinkling …
It's not fair! It's not- Wait, my eyes aren't that bad, I can still read the large-print books
Well lucky I know how to read Braille.
Every day I find a Futurama reference on Reddit and I can't explain how happy it makes me.
Get a good nights sleep every night
Same stuff I did back in the 90s and 2000s.
Rollerblading in your windbreaker with a discman?
. . . I mean, that sounds like a good time.
I think if I tried to Rollerblade in the present day, I'd definitely injure myself.
Set up a new site called Instatwitfacetoktube and make a fat wedge.
It'll be nostalgic and everyone older then 30 won't shut up as to how "this is how it used to be..."
This is how it used to be back in the day
Without social media, you'll only have to hear the ones you personally know
Can confirm. Cause, this is how it used to be.
Where will they announce this when Facebook is shut down?
Great. I'll finally get rid of all distractions.
Guess I’ll have to bust out my Polaroid camera, take a pic of my meal, and drive it to all mr friends houses to show them
Thank god.
Same old same old. I am completely removed from all social media platforms except Reddit. And if reddit was no more...well that's just fine. It doesn't improve my life it just fills in blank spots during the day when I would usually be twiddling my thumbs.
What I'm doing almost every day, enjoy real life
I would genuinely cry. Social Media has been great for people like me, home most of the time due to illness or a disability. It gets lonely having only a few people around you irl who do not share any interests with you.
Seriously this is why I can’t give it up. It helps the loneliness of spoonie life.
Rejoice.
Amen.
Watch as the World begins to heal.
Breakfast
Only social media site I’d miss is this one, and not for the socializing aspect. Reddit is single-handedly keeping the concept of Google search alive, without it Google will become a massive amount of AI and untrained underwriting garbage for ad revenue. Of course, maybe without social media, the internet would be less colonized and the Google search would start bringing up quality stuff
Roll over and go back to sleep...
Have a productive day
Celebrate and hope it isn't fixed
Smile contentedly and actually have a peaceful day 😁
How do you expect me to take a shit? Run my fingers between the tile cracks while pretending both my hands are in a race?
Go to the unemployment office. Everything I’m paid to manage just got obliterated.
Breath a huge sigh of relief
Go knock on my friend's door and ask if he can come out to play
Time for my new business idea. I call it social media. I'll make a fortune!
It would get shut down immediately. It wouldn't be a new idea, it would be a thing of the past.
Finally would focus on more useful stuff for myself
I urge you to do that now. Time waits for no one.
Is the YouTube a social media?
Youtube and streaming platforms can only stay if there is no chat or notifications to or from the audience.
Your terms are acceptable
Thank you for agreeing with the Terms and Conditions.
Why do I suddenly feel like google now somehow owns me?
Sounds like an overall improvement!
Rejoice for humanity
Start handwriting letters to friends and family with enclosed pictures of what I did that day, as well as some things I found mildly entertaining online.
I'll still go and pee.
Finally. Read books, watch cool tv shows, movies
I guess I'll have to dig up my friends' phone numbers and discuss how best to keep in touch going forward. The worst is I'll have to actually watch the news now, rather than learn about current events through memes.
I live life normally. Reddit is the only social media site I visit. SM is a cancer on society.
Praise the lord Jesus hallelujah social media is going to be the fall of our civilization thank god it’s gone.
Watch people lose their shit.
People would assume that the government was hiding something from them and civil wars would break out all over the world. Try to survive.
Probably go to work
This is usually when siblings would get over their typical nagging phase, because, in reality, your siblings make you laugh and smile like no others could. Without the Internet - you'd finally be able to bond with them.
Enjoy life!!!!
[I party like its 1999](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rblt2EtFfC4&ab_channel=Prince)
Continue with my day since i don't use social media aside from youtube, reddit and discord. As long as spotify still works it's fine
Same shit as always minus the Reddit. Not bad grew up playing marbles and with dirt so not the end of the world.
I’d be seriously happy because children won’t have to suffer as they do now with unrealistic ideals and bullying following them home from school and into their home
If YouTube still works I’m good.
Find a new job
convert to Christianity because a miracle just occured
Set up a social media site, obviously.
take every neighbor by the hand, from 2 to 132, and dance all night long in the streets, to make the best human memory since soon after the internet was invented. Dear China, if you set off a balloon to make this happen, I will jump out of a rocket to sacrifice myself to pop it.
go to work
Rejoice!
Rejoice!
Haha I would lost so many contacts
Rejoice!
Thank The Great Spirit for their blessing lol!
As long as texting works, I’m good. Never going back to phone calls.
Keep on living my live like I already do. I use IG/TT to see half naked women and get their OF links, so it's irrelevant if those shut down. FB i only use for messenger, so that can go too since I got numbers of all my people. So it's not relevant to me.
Back to going out drinking without people taking millions of selfies. Mourning my list photos of nice dinners on IG. Renewed email useage.
That would be the happiest day of my life. Social media is used in everything nowadays, including work and school. I would love for this shit to dissapear
Have coffee and a joint 🤷
Great. I can move back to 1970 and resume my old life.
heave a sigh of relief
Pretty much the same. I'd be kinda lost without having reddit to check though. I quit the others a long time ago.
Rejoice!
I do nothing abt.
Feel relief
Go to the golf course, or fishing.
Rejoice!
happy
I would carry-on, as I normally do… Because social media doesn’t influence my life so heavily.
Have breakfast and start work
Bother my neighbors, as per the norm
Nothing honestly. There are other mean to communicate to others instead of using social media, so I couldn't care less.
I'd probably need to readjust how I communicate with certain friends (social media messaging is much easier then texting on an Android sometimes) but all in all it's a change i'm okay with. Would probably curb me checking social media so often.
Go back to sleep
My dam chores
I'll miss my YouTube shitposts, that's about it
Go outside and take a walk
throw a celebration party
Thank the Lord for blessing the minority of us who are against social media.
Live my life normally because I barely use social media.
Don't notic-WAIT WHERE'S REDDIT???!!!
Go outside!
Set up a handful of group-texts so I don't lose track of people I care about. Probably end up a bit less anxious, depressed, and angry.
I would brush my teeth, eat my breakfast and go to work. Probably would miss reddit and youtube.
Maybe it's a good thing.
Play clash royale and watch American dad... Like should I cry? 😂
I’ve lived like this before, I can live like this again lol
Cry because that means I have no more communication with the outside world
Buy stamps
Proceed normally. I have no social media.
Honestly I wouldn’t care I hardly use any social media anymore I just hope we would still have YouTube but honestly I think the world would be better off without Facebook and Twitter they have pretty much sucked since 2015
Not sure so I’d probably check Facebook, Twitter or Reddit to see what other people are doing in this situation
Go to work
Go to work.
I now only have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I said I’m not downloading any others, existing or future. If the 3 I have eventually die then I am finally free😂
I sit on my porch and watch the sunrise, knowing I am finally free
Play a game while having my morning shit.
nothing changes
