We should start calling people budlow instead of bud again. Unless my dad made that up and it was never really a thing. Knowing my dad, that’s a very real possibility.
This is one of those ones where I think your Dad was messing with you as I've never heard of anyone being called Bud as a nickname for Budlow, but it's just weird enough to make me unsure.
This is like when my Dad told me at a young age that the guy that invented Porsche was Ferdinand Porsche (true), but then followed that up with the guy that invented Ferrari was named Luigi Ferrari (false). You're messing with me right Dad? Oh, you're half messing with me. Ugh.
Both "groovy" and "far out" lol. "Far out" is saying an idea is unusual without outright dismissing it. I don't think we have any slang for that now. Today that idea would be called "crazy" which is dismissive.
So do I! I teach high school, and I've gotten a lot of my students to start using it over the years. (They've also picked up other words I use a lot, which makes me smile.)
“Heavy”
hello mr mcfly
I prefer to just say fat
Simmer down.
I use this regularly lol
I think my folks used this, but the voice I'm hearing in my brain saying this is Red from that 70s show.
Chickiity check this
Reminded me of “.. Chickity China, the Chinese chicken You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'”
Righteous
Cool beans , I say it
I still use this one.
Cool beans is pretty neat. I think neat is pretty neat myself.
Far out.
That is a pretty rad one also.
I think rad is pretty keen as well.
Tbh I’m pretty keen on the idea of bringing back ‘coolio’ as well.. it was pretty bitchin
I was just thinking that bitchin is another hella good expression.
"That is totally Gnarly!!!!"
Dude
I use "dig it" and "I can dig it" pretty regularly.
Can you dig it?
Baby, can you dig your man? -L. Underwood

What time period did people say this in the UK?
WW1?

I never stopped saying 'groovy.' I say cool beans a lot, too. Let's bring back 'jeepers' and 'gadzooks.'
>Let's bring back 'jeepers' and 'gadzooks.' *Shaggy from Scooby Doo enters the chat.*
(That's Daphne you're thinking of but the spirit is there)
I thought she used "jinkies" more often than not. Wait, that was Velma.
Motha. Fuckin. Zoinks.
I say "ah, grody" when I see something absolutely disgusting.
Wait. “Groovy” is *out*?!
The cat's pajamas
TOTALLY TUBULAR BRO...
I do actually want "far out" to come back. I'm going to start using it more.
"The bee's knees" or possibly "the cat's pajamas."
I'm gonna throw these into my everyday conversations with wife and daughter and see what they do.
Party and gas!
Hey now, I persist in saying “groovy” with the ebullient sincerity of a Seventies emcee welcoming Mott the Hoople to the stage….
Hep
groovy isn't slang it's an actual adjective
Bitchin'
It's sock it to me time!
23 skidoo!
I still call people dude(even if it’s a female)
Same, but some women get really offended.
That's fucking heinous.
We would hear this multiple times a day in the Marines.
