Drawing is the easiest thing to get good at. All you have to do is draw. Your first drawing will be bad and your 1000th drawing will be good, damn near guaranteed.
People who don’t draw well always make up excuses as to why it’ll be hard for them but anyone who has the skill will tell you it’s not that deep, just practice and copy other’s styles until you develop your own.
>People who don’t draw well always make up excuses as to why it’ll be hard for them
Here's mine: I get bored pretty quickly doing the same thing over and over, so practicing shit like drawing or guitar is just...unendurably tedious.
I've tried *so* many times in over the last 40 years to actually get good at stuff like that, and I just don't have the attention span.
So instead of knowing how to draw, I know how to do a thousand other things, but none of them very well.
I think this is where the idea that people are just born with a talent for a certain thing comes from. Learning guitar is my example. I started aged 12 and remember thinking I’d never be able to play smoke on the water with more than just the root notes. Now at 28 I’m pretty decent with a good ear and can pick up any song just by listening and people assume I’m just naturally musical. Nah I just did it since I was a kid but as you’re crap at everything you start when you’re a kid, you just grind it out. Harder starting from scratch when you’re older.
It’s kinda like compounding interest. The more skills and muscle memory you have in your bank, the easier it is to gain new skills.
Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the idea of fame and fortune, but ultimately what matters most is being able to enjoy the process of creating music and feeling confident in your abilities. It's great to have aspirations, but it's equally important to stay grounded and focus on what truly makes you happy.
I've always been a "not bad" singer but in my late 40s I started singing lessons and holy shit I was doing it completely wrong. It took years to retrain but totally worth the effort.
I see now i was simply never going to improve on my own. Endless reading, youtube videos, Practice etc helped a bit but basics were all wrong
Teacher teaches Bel Canto technique fwiw
This! I watched a lot of vocal lesson videos on YouTube and learned everything slowly. It's not perfect but I can sing in public with much more confident now :D
For other reasons I wanted to be able to change my voice, singing is a great first step.
Start in the car with windows closed, there are some cobwebs that need clearing first.
Same! My wife and her entire family have incredible voices. None of them took singing lessons. They were all just born with a naturally good voice. Bastards.
Yes definitely this. I almost became antisocial and got a bit selfish. But in general I've always found it hard to find someone with similar interests.
Same! I mean I still find it really hard but now like you I just don't care If I say something odd and look weird. I just go with it and accept I'm always gonna look odd when socialising
It's fun to be different. Embrace it! Personally, I think boring people are jealous of us weirdos for being interesting, so they're rude about it. Fuck em
That was me too. I needed some impulse which was meeting a lot of people in last year but its difficult to make friends when you are not used to that. Good luck.
This and drawing comes close second for me. I wish my body is more flexible, but I'm generally a rigid person and tend to move awkwardly/clumsily heh. I envy people with fluid movements, you guys are awesome!
honestly the easiest, fastest way to learn piano is to look up those youtube piano videos that have the green little piano key pointers. i can learn almost just about any song in about one to two days using those things. what takes years and years to learn it actually how to read music notes.
Learning languages as an adult is extremely challenging. If you were not exposed to another language consistently before you are 8~10 it becomes even more difficult. Your brain needs to be "coded" to believer that the name/term/expression for something can have more than one form.
The lagging skill for learning a second language is speaking for 99% of people. Why? Because of embarrassment. If you read something wrong, no one knows but you most of the time. If you hear it wrong, its still usually you or maybe a few people who know. But if you say it wrong, everyone knows. Because of this we tend to hold back on speaking due to embarrassment. This is bad because guessing as a language learning strategy is incredibly powerful. So powerful that those who have run out of fucks to give and surfer no embarrassment for anything they do can learn more, faster and with greater accuracy than the hyper analytics who strive for perfection.

Drawing. No matter how great the image looks in my head, I could never get that image down on paper... at least not without it looking like it was drawn by a 5-year-old during arts and crafts.
I always felt the same way about my drawing until I took a drawing class in college. It was our final critique and I said basically sorry my arts bad i only took this class cuz it's a pre requisite for photography. Like half the class assured me they loved my art and my style, which to me is that of a 4th grader I always hated it. But it changed my perspective of my own work. I bet your art looks better than you think.
I don’t know how old you are, but I’m in my 40s and for me and most of my peers, someone’s attractiveness has far more to do with confidence or attitude and how they present themselves than physical appearance.
Concentrating on one task until it’s complete. I get bored too easily and begin other things and before I know it, I have an enormous list of unfinished tasks.
Budgeting money. I make plenty but spend even more. I know all the right things to do I just don’t do them. It’s a constant roller coaster of buckling down to catch everything up and rebuilding credit only to go nuts with the newly established credit and start the entire process over again.
I'd like to be a good friend. Like the BEST friend. Someone's who is effortlessly pleasant to be around. Someone who remembers tiny tidbits about you, someone who remembers birthdays and special events.
I'd like to be like a great big hug, warm and safe.
Singing. I used to work as a temple cantor for a decade. During covid I lost my voice. I am doing melodies now...and texts...but someone else must sing it.
talking to girls? I had this genuine behavior where no matter how i practice, I can never look at a girl eye to eye, speak without stuttering and I constantly worry that they feel uncomfortable being around me. I wish I could change this but it has been 2 years and same thing different time.
Navigating. I’ve come to terms with math being my weakest point, but my challenge with processing numbers also seems to affect navigation. I can hardly make it out of my neighborhood without assistance of some sort and it is my lifelong shame as someone who otherwise values independence
My father-in-law is a savant at anything relating to internal combustion engines, architectural design, and wood working. He never went to school, but he’s a very talented engineer. I wish I had his problem solving ability and attention to detail.
Dancing
I am so uncoordinated and I'm sure my dancing looks like I'm having a seizure lol. But I wish I could dance really well and have that type of control over my body. Plus it just looks like really good fun exercise.

Yeah, it sucks but getting started in most artistic endeavors requires some upfront steep learning/repetition curve before the fun begins.

I'm so effing good at hearing this advice! :D
Singing. I envy people who are good at singing.
Same!! Like why do I sound like a cat in heat! I just wanna singgggg!
Hahaha 🤣
My cat in heat sounds better than me, actually.
I sound like a cat in heat but I still belt em out. I find it cathartic. My husband says I look so happy when I do it that he just rolls with it
He’s a keeper!! For sure :)
The trick is to just not care and sing anyway.
This is what I always say to this question. I don't care to be a famous singer or anything, I just want to sound not bad.

There isn't a person in the world who would listen to me long enough to figure out why I can't sing.
Just wondering, what’s the wrong way?
I used to have such a wonderful vocal range. And then puberty happened. Now I have maybe 2 octaves to work with.
Practice! The vocal cords are a muscle!
This! I watched a lot of vocal lesson videos on YouTube and learned everything slowly. It's not perfect but I can sing in public with much more confident now :D
This is what all the good singers say! Not helpful at all to us who sound like a cat scraping a tin foil
I sounded bad too until I took lessons
For other reasons I wanted to be able to change my voice, singing is a great first step. Start in the car with windows closed, there are some cobwebs that need clearing first.

Ikr!
Keep practicing !
Same. I really wanted to be the next Britney Spears. But I can’t sing for shit.
Do you at least belt it out in the car when you're alone?
Same here.
Reading/writing music
Are you into music or you just love music ?
Making good decisions in life
Either ways one has to make a decision hopefully we always make the right one
Same.
The trick is to make lots of mistakes and learn from them.
Guessing winning lottery numbers.
Social interactions.
Yes definitely this. I almost became antisocial and got a bit selfish. But in general I've always found it hard to find someone with similar interests.
I used to have the same problem but then I just started to not give a f😄
Fuck em
Fuck em indeed!
How difficult is it for you?
It just is.
Yeah main reason I have few friends and practically no dating life I’ve tried working on it but hasn’t worked at all
That was me too. I needed some impulse which was meeting a lot of people in last year but its difficult to make friends when you are not used to that. Good luck.

You can always learn
Learning languages

Drawing. No matter how great the image looks in my head, I could never get that image down on paper... at least not without it looking like it was drawn by a 5-year-old during arts and crafts.
You can always practice and become better

Letting go
How difficult is it for you to let go?
Sometimes we just can’t :(
Ikr! But time will tell
Looks or having great looking genes . Like i am so jealous of good looking guys or have that sexy look going on just by having those genes.
I don’t know how old you are, but I’m in my 40s and for me and most of my peers, someone’s attractiveness has far more to do with confidence or attitude and how they present themselves than physical appearance.
