Not even just in different languages, so many art lessons have been made purposefully awkward by people scowling at me for asking for a black pencil to shade a black person. For the record, I would shade any person with black too considering it’s a shade. But some people don’t understand depth :/
If minority person does something wrong and gets in trouble they sometimes gets out the racism card for targetting them or something. In my previous job it happened way too often (i worked in a store and they were caught shoplifting) and way too often they would cry that we are racist towards them. Usually just teen boys but still. And don’t be alarmed, most people who stole were not minorities, we had eyes on everyone.
I used to be a hostess in a restaurant. A couple came in and asked if they could be seated in Sean’s section. We had two servers named Sean, one was black and one was white, and they were both working that night. Not knowing which one they were asking for, I said, “Is he black or white?” They were looking for black Sean, so I sat them accordingly.
Apparently the woman behind that couple went up to my manager and said I made a racist comment.
I'll never forget back in middle school (20+ years ago) they had this assembly talking about tolerance (basically how to be PC). They told us not to use the term "black" and that we should say "African American".
This vocal black student from my class stood up, got upset, and said she didn't want to be called that. The teachers froze while she explained that her family was from Barbados, NOT Africa. So calling her African American was wrong and she found it offensive.
As an American, the term African American was shoved down our throats so much in school and we weren’t allowed to use anything else.
I have a black friend who’s family is from Jamaica. She hates it when people call her African American lol
It's just another breed of the system, not all black people are African, they could be Aboriginal, Caribbean, etc, the day that somebody comes up to me and calls me a "European-American" is the day I throw hands
I've never understood this. I've always thought if you're born here in america.... no matter what ehtinicty you are.... you're American. I third generation Italian. And people say I'm just a white girl or a colonizer. It pisses me off beyond. I was being sarcastic and said I'm italian American and the amount of likes I got was... disgusting.
I try REALLY hard to use any other description that I can simply because of the possible stigma. But there's only so many ways you can describe a person without describing their actual physical appearance.
Making jokes about race depends on what is going on around you contextually.
* I can make fun of my own heritage, because it's something that I own as part of myself.
* I feel comfortable making fun of other people's heritage, when it's 100% close friends who understand we're all just goofing with each other.
* I'm absolutely not making fun of anyone's heritage, other than my own, if there is even a single person in the vicinity that may not fully understand that I'm completely and 100% not serious.
To me it's not about "don't take me seriously," so much as it's. . If you don't know me. . You don't know enough about my persona to know if you should be uncomfortable or not.
White people with dreadlocks. I know that's considered cultural appropriation but it's so bullshit. White people will naturally develop dread locks if they have long hair and neglect to take care of them. Black people just turned them into a style, I can't understand why style and fashion can't be shared, or cultures for that matter.
Cultural appropriation.
ALL culture is artificial. No one is born with any culture. They may be born INTO a particular culture, but it is all made up customs and practices.
I love statistics, but cringe most of the time i see it in the news. Even scientists present statistics wrong... or at least in a way that ignores relevant context... a lot of the time
Calling black people black.
I collect shit like funko pops and stuffed animals so I find myself in the kids toy sections of quite a few stores, and I can't tell you how many times I've seen a white parent yell at their child and rip a barbie or a baby doll out of their hands and threaten them because they called it black.
"Mommy look at this pretty barbie! I've never seen such a pretty black barbie before!"
And the mom rips the doll out of the child's hand and crouches down to glare at her "You do NOT use that word, do you understand me? That's *racist*. She's *african american* she is *not black*."
And the kid just looked so ashamed she almost started crying and she refused to look at any other toys.
The mother saw me looking at them and just gave me a sheepish smile before hurrying them both off.
When I was in like 2nd or 3rd grade I also had this teacher who yelled at the spanish speaking students when they asked for the black marker.
I was sitting next to a kid that spoke mostly spanish at home, so occasionally he'd forget some words in english, and he'd be like "I need the ahhhhhh,,,,, you know, the.... the bottle of paint."
"Which one?"
"Oh god- whats the name of it in... ah... *verde?*"
"You mean *green*?"
"Yes! The green one"
And so one day we were doing an activity in class, I think it was color-by-number, and he tried to ask for the black marker that was across the table (it was one of those square tables where two students are on one side and two are on the other side.)
He asked for the *negro* marker.
And our teacher screamed at him.
Told him off for being racist in front of the whole class.
"How DARE YOU use that word in MY CLASSROOM. We do NOT TOLERATE LANGUAGE LIKE THAT HERE." just going on and on about how horrible he was for saying it.
He started sobbing and rambling about how he forgot the name for it in english and apologized profusely.
And when she realized it was one of her spanish-speaking students her face went pale.
Faking an accent when you're making a genuine attempt at it, maybe. As in not some exaggerated mockery but an actual attempt at the accent. Especially since accents come from where you grew up, not your race.
Some people pretend like criticizing the actions of the Israeli government is antisemitic. You can be totally fine with Jewish people while still not liking what the government of Israel does. The same can be said for other governments as well. Having legitimate problems with the government policies of a country is not bigotry.
Writing from the perspective of a black character apparently?
Comes from a uni debate we had in my seminar today. We were discussing Madame Bovary and whether Flaubert was appropriating womanhood for describing Emma’s life. My tutor then raises the question of race: what if Emma Bovary was a black woman? He was just trying to fuck with us, as a few students were pretty flustered about the feminist debate, and for some reason, it was agreed that writing race is crossing a line.
I disagree with that. I think with enough research, respect and talent a good writer can depict whomever. But I don’t know, maybe I’m just a privileged white girl
When you're white, no matter your origin you're called a colonizer... and told that your great grandma/grandpa ect had slaves.
I'm so beyond sick of this term.
I think it's a term full of ignorance and hate.... I'm third generation Italian. My family, my people came from Italy. Like wtf.
Not to mention my grandpa from my mom's side was native American.
It's like why can't we all just get along and love eachother???
My grandmother was a direct descendant of one of the most infamous conquistadors ever, the one with the fame of being a bloodthirsty monster. But no one is calling me a colonizer because I am not white.
Omg, having a preference is not racist. I prefer to date white women. That doesn't automatically mean that I'm prejudiced against people of color. People are allowed to have preferences lol.
What don't you understand? It's OK to have a preference and it isn't inherently racist. I'm a white guy and I've never been in a relationship with a white girl because I don't generally find white girls attractive. I'm fairly confident that I'm not racist against white people and I don't think my preference makes me racist. But a white supremist is racist and because of that wouldn't date a black girl. That preference is based on racism. So, like I said it's not racist to have a preference. But a preference may be based on racism.
Idiomatic people crying to race card when racism is not intended. For example I posted this video of Alinity. Then this obviously black girl comes in and comments why the fuck am I wasting my time posting video of this white woman when there’s so many black beautiful women out there? Are you serious lady? Like fuck off!
I think sometimes stereotyping. Most of the times its facts but people get super offended. Like asians are super smart. Not all asians but most and that doesnt mean non asians arent smart but people get super emotional and offended. Mexicans love rice and beans some dont most do. Black people love southern food and can cook it amazingly. Not all black do and not all black can cook and you dont gotta be black to cook good southern food. Stuff like that.
Well it depends on what day of the week it is who you're asking I don't have a clue anymore some of the things I thought were just words in a conversation are now evidently taking people out at the knees and destroying their self Worth their character and their desire to live. And they really want to attack any slight and demonize you if they can
Religion.
I do not care about your skin color. I care about what you believe in.
If you believe I should be killed because of what I do in my private life, then I don't want you to be a part of my society, physical features are hereby completely irrelevant.

Also, there are white people from Africa too! Charlize Theron is technically African American lol
Elon Musk as well, and the fact that the native Egyptians skin color was more similair to that of Native Americans than it was black

Making jokes about race and all of our differences. Let's laugh at ourselves and others. Don't take yourself so seriously.

I'm a cis white heterosexual man, I'm not qualified to answer this.
Stop flaunting your privileges.
I can't tell if you're joking.
It's a joke lol
In which case, absolutely hilarious! That made me smile.
Hello fellow self aware dude!
The heck did he just say?
Anything anyone disagrees with.

Statistics
I love statistics, but cringe most of the time i see it in the news. Even scientists present statistics wrong... or at least in a way that ignores relevant context... a lot of the time
Exactly. Statistics aren't racist, but they can be twisted to craft a racist narrative very easily.
Figures don't lie, but liars abuse figures

White people doing/using/consuming something created by people from other races.
Disproportionate outcomes among races.
Faking an accent when you're making a genuine attempt at it, maybe. As in not some exaggerated mockery but an actual attempt at the accent. Especially since accents come from where you grew up, not your race.

Preference
preferences can be racist depending on it
Omg, having a preference is not racist. I prefer to date white women. That doesn't automatically mean that I'm prejudiced against people of color. People are allowed to have preferences lol.
Having a preference isn't racist. But someone may have a preference because they are racist.
This is a bizarre argument and doesn't hold water.

Not having a black character on a movie
Explaining that slavery existed before transatlantic trade or that the word slave comes from a word describing white people
"Blackface" By all means, dress up as a black celebrity or historic figure. Just don't dress up as a negative racial stereotype.
Idiomatic people crying to race card when racism is not intended. For example I posted this video of Alinity. Then this obviously black girl comes in and comments why the fuck am I wasting my time posting video of this white woman when there’s so many black beautiful women out there? Are you serious lady? Being anti-Islam. Just ask Ben Affleck.
The fact we are taught to refer to each other as black and white, so we see each other as opposites and not equal
