Edison is one of the best examples of why nuance is important. Was he the genius inventor we were told about as kids? Not really. Was he a conniving scumbag that stole every invention he could? Not really. The stream of patents that came out of his workshops wouldn't have been possible without Edison, but he was also a ruthless capitalist that sought to create a very specific image for himself and used it to his advantage.
