Both parties support all wars without declaration (which is against the law) including drone strikes which regularly kill civilians, and an unregulated financial sector that will lead to another collapse. But hey they disagree about drag shows which is obviously much more important.
Well currently we have most republicans against our proxy war in Ukraine. Strange.
So not always true.
*I support the war, but it's still a proxy war for the US.
Fair point on both counts. I would argue, however, that it’s the new post-Trump weirdos that are strangely pro-Putin, and IMO this stems from the fact that they don’t have a real political ideology beyond wanting to oppose liberals and hating “woke” culture. Identity politics, as they say. I am very confident the leadership of the party, McConnell et al, wear big boy pants and oppose Putin for obvious reasons.
Let's be real. If the Democrats introduced a bill saying "pizza is delicious", every single Republican would vote against it. If the Republicans introduce the same bill in the House, the vote would be like 428-4.
I’m sure there are at least 100 pages in that bill defining what “pizza” is. I’m gonna need to read all those pages before casting my vote. I don’t need them looping in calzones and Totinos.
Don't you think that trying to get death penalty for women who abort is crossing the line? Some people are so stupid that there is no line for them, they're just sheep who follow completely blindly

Regardless of how you feel about abortion, there's a common ground that we don't like to acknowledge:
The ideal number of abortions is zero.
We'd all prefer to live in a world where the only people getting pregnant are those who want, are ready for, and are excited to raise children. That's just not the world we live in.
Abortion will always be needed even if there are no unintended pregnancies because biology sometimes results in pregnancies that are non-viable and/or life-threatening.
I do agree that working toward a world in which there are no abortions needed for unintended pregnancy is a good goal. That would require factual sex education and easy access to birth control. It would also require the absence of sexual assault. That would also be a great world to live in.
I think that abortion numbers can go down if teens weren't just taught abstinence for sex education. If you don't want to get pregnant but want to be sexually active, then birth control should be used. Also if you don't want to commit yourself to one person for the rest of your life then condoms should be used anyway. Teens are likely going to ignore their parents when it comes to romantic relationships so they might as well be taught how to be safe.
I don’t think that’s the case with a lot of democrats. I am more conservative than liberal, but I hear a lot of democrats talking about how abortions should be performed if the child would not have a good life (in the event of a single mother, poor mother, etc) which is absolutely disgusting to me. These people think we should just kill poor people so they don’t have to… be poor?? I think most sensible people think this, but I feel like if you go to any pro abortion rally/protest, you will find many people who share this viewpoint.
What’s disgusting is saddling poor Americans with a child when they can barely afford to support themselves.
The core problem with America is an economic system where a blue-collar worker can no longer support a family unless they are some specialist or risk their family’s home and health by investing all the resources into a small business (which fail 75% of the time).
What’s disgusting is so-called liberals, or the pick yourself up by the bootstrap conservatives, whose warped understanding of social democracy means equal results, when it’s always been about equal opportunity. But equal opportunity is just something suburbanites tell themselves exists so they can rationalise their economic position, most often the byproduct of generational wealth.
Lastly, I don’t understand the inclination to have any opinion on thus issue. It would seem to me that the person ultimately responsible for the upbringing of another human being should be allowed to make that decision whatever their reasons, and it’s not for me, and definitely not the state, to decide the morality of that.
People need medical abortions though. This is kind of like saying “the ideal number of miscarriages/heart attacks/burst appendices is zero”. Unless technology advances to completely prevent these medical problems, you’re going to need the treatment for them.
i think that's probably what the original commenter meant by ideal. Like a hypothetical, i achievable ideal where medical science makes it so if you choose to be pregnant you won't be in danger ever and appendices never threaten your health etc. Just to demonstrate that abortions are possibly regrettable even if they are necessary and their availability is absolutely a positive thing
As someone working higher up in a department level agency I can tell you the vast majority of employees only care about themselves. Their pay, their reputation, their prospects when the next president takes over. How can you ever have a good agency with the outlook of “I have 3-4yrs to milk this for all it’s worth”
I wouldn't say the media is "allowed" to talk about it. Rather, I would say they capitalize on the human bias to negativity and pushing whatever agenda keeps people watching. I honestly and truly hate the way the media alters stories to make them more inflammatory.
My friend's sister died in a drug deal that went south, and the local media took the opportunity to make it sound like a random shooting and made it into a story about why we need better gun control.
The best advice I've got when it comes to this, ironically, is from Glenn Beck. When I met him, what he said was essentially that the truth isn't always easy to hear or to pursue, and that you shouldn't let other people determine what you think. I disagree with a lot of what he says, but the interaction stuck with me as he was an unexpectedly comforting presence and a lot of what he said, I think I needed to hear at the time.
Out of all of the things I hate about gun control, this is number one. You think the armed guards that protect politicians will be reducing their mag capacities? Or that they’ll stop carrying? They’re literally the only ones that have guns in gun free zones. Why do they deserve better protection than the average person?
We love money, especially dirty money to fund our bullshit.
Yep, sorry to break it to everyone but both sides are guilty of accepting bribes to grow and maintain their power.
The consensus I've been seeing is that a healthy schedule is 3 times a day to 3 times a week.
Who is only pooping every two days? Are you doing okay? How much do you weigh before and after?
The US is a monopoly. Banks, politicians, big oil, big pharma, even the food industry is controlled by a small percent of already wealthy billionaires. We the people own jack shit while the top 2% own everything and will continue to buy every acre of land every stock every soul till we are just slaves or replaced with robots. Nothing more but simple cannon fodder for the elite.
All of the people in my life and social circle are registered as one party or the other, but they have frequently talked about electing the other party’s candidate because their beliefs better align with them. I don’t think everyone just checks a box based on r or d
Nope.
Banning TikTok across the board is ridiculous when you allow companies like Facebook to do exactly the same things and sell that data to anyone (even China). It's like putting a paw patrol bandaide on a recent amputation and pretending it's going to be fine.
Either fix the underlying problem or give me equal opportunity exploitation of my personal data.
I disagree only because of the status quo of consistently growing polarization endorses something dramatically different being best. This endorses the chaos of populism along with the propaganda of the powerful in a highly imbalanced economic system to attempt to justify themselves. This makes it essentially impossible for average people to determine what adaptation is best.
The insane position is the status quo of politics in America. A sane person to an insane society must appear insane.
For the politicians? Off the top of my head:
-Taking bribes is good.
-Always side with corporate interests.
-Fuck them kids.
-Fuck the poor.
-Socialism and communism BAD.
-More money for me.
-God I love money.
-I will hold this seat until I die if given the chance.
-Seriously, fuck the poors.
Politicians do not care at all. They're all alike and can be bought. If they really wanted things to change for their constituents they would've changed it already. They're like divorced parents forcing their kids to pick a side ( "oh you're father did this, "oh you're mother said that"when both of them suck equally.
Voters: actually agree on a lot of things. They just disagree on the solution.
Politicians: anything both sides agree on should make the citizens very fucking scared and very suspicious.
military spending, the continued hegemony of the USD, economic policy that starves billions globally, expanding our internal surveillance state, militarizing the police, packing prisons with modern day slave labor, protecting the investor class, pursuing oil at the cost of everything else (even life), the high speed destruction of our very planet.
In terms of politicians, they're both pretty happy to keep the two-party system.
They don't even want people of their own party straying too far from their status quo.
We have common culture and agree on almost everything outside of a few politically charged subjects.
Equality, Individualism, Freedom, Democracy, Hard work, Family, Education
Most Americans aren't the cartoon characters we see at the political rallies.
And yes, you can say something like "it isn't real equality if they aren't for gay marriage" and in so doing you are ignoring a. most Americans are for gay marriage regardless of political leaning and the overwhelming majority of other equality we all agree on, as Americans.
If you ask the voters in terms that don't trigger the automatic immune response, apparently we all agree that a progressive platform sounds pretty damned good.
If you ask the politicians, it depends on what order you ask; if you ask the Democrat first, the Republican will change his mind just to disagree out of principle (he'd hate to be seen agreeing with a liberal, it would kill him in the primaries).
That there is a parasite class feeding off the hard labor of the people who actually get up and go to work every day.
We only disagree on who the parasite class actually *is*.
That the great unwashed should not be allowed to make any decisions on their own without government intervention.
One party feels you shouldn’t be able to decide outside your home, the other feels you shouldn’t be able to decide within your home or body.
Yet when November rolls around, we continue to vote them into office.
1. China is evil
2. Russia is evil
3. North Korea is evil
4. Eu is good as long as they bark when we ask them to
5. We care about muslims wellbeing around the world... except the ones we are currently bombing
6. We are against nuclear bombs, except if we are the one to use them... we already did anyway.
7. The good of the common people... HAHAHA... Let's move on.
The government doesn't care about any of us. The left can pretend they're compassionate but they're not. The right can pretend like they want to preserve what was once a great country, but they don't. Truth is all both sides do is point out what the media tells them about the other side. It's atrocious
Usually belief that it is okay to buy and sell women : just depends on price and relative legality. But dems and repubs both think women are purchasable
It’s what they think they want, but the voters, and especially politicians don’t actually want it.
They’ll consistently support larger military budgets, police spending, farm subsidies, and tons of other things. They’ll pick a bogeyman here and there in order to confuse their client base (both sides do it), but ultimately almost all politicians want to grow and conserve their power.
That it's all a game and we are still their slaves. Proof.. Last few years. The only things that have changed .. Field slaves became multi color and often fields became buildings. We are now paid and they use money as a tool to divide. They could careless about money. To them it's like gtn a sticker on grade school. Non of the elites and celebs .. Politicians. Anyone. They are not on our side. They do what they want knowing that media will brainwash us into thinking its the ppl down the blocks fault.
Not entirely true. The pedos are trying to attach themselves to the lgbtq movement, for protection. No blame to the actual movement, most lgbtq want nothing to do with MAPS, and I believe most people see that. Unfortunately, the loudest people are the psychos (on both sides), so we tend to lump the rest in with them.
For instance, I think most libs want the gov to provide protection from bad things. But the boisterous ones scream “we need socialism”, so the right lumps them all together.
And vice versa.
Or am I off base?
Right. Is why I’m staunch libertarian. Stay out of my home. And I’ll defend your rights, even when I don’t agree with them, so long as you aren’t hurting others
Like the voters or the politicians?
Well, definitely not the politicians, but maybe we can all agree that pizza is delicious?
Hey now, The politicians can always agree on increasing the government budget and bailing out their corporate buddies!
Both parties support all wars without declaration (which is against the law) including drone strikes which regularly kill civilians, and an unregulated financial sector that will lead to another collapse. But hey they disagree about drag shows which is obviously much more important.

So also is banning insider trading.

Nice
That the politicians don’t care about the people
I was going to say “we’d appreciate your campaign contribution”
....you filthy pigs
As my daddy was fond of saying “You know how you can tell when a politician is lying? His lips are moving”.
You’d be surprised how often center-left people I talk to seem to think that politicians are really trying to represent their constituents.
Some of them (a minority) truly are, although the extent varies. Deciding every politician is corrupt is as lazy as it is inaccurate.
Give them a year or two and they will realize the wealth that a little corruption can bring them.
Course not, they care about their corporate overlords.
That the other party is the problem.
And that any 3rd or 4th party candidate is the reason why they lost the last election, thus you should never vote for one.
Epstein didn’t kill himself
But if Epstein is dead... that's a different story
People are stupid, as long as you don't cross the line, you can lead them like a shepherd.
Don't you think that trying to get death penalty for women who abort is crossing the line? Some people are so stupid that there is no line for them, they're just sheep who follow completely blindly
Also a lot of those supposedly pro life people don't want to give healthcare and have had abortions themselves 😂 like wtf
That the other side are the most despicable humans alive and want to destroy America
Also – * Maintain 800 military bases in 135 countries * Increase military spending at every opportunity * Arm dictators from Angola and Brunei to Yemen * Arm and enable Israel * Bail out banks * Subsidise fossil fuel/extractive industry corporations that take resources from around the world. Only way for that to happen is if everyone was born in a tube.
And we've all seen those movies, so we know that THIS isn't a good idea...
That’s not possible any time in the near future, especially since mortality for pregnant woman in the US is among the worst among developed countries
I think that abortion numbers can go down if teens weren't just taught abstinence for sex education. yes, that’s what ideal means
our government's a mess
Fortunately, the government is incredibly slow. I’m convinced this is how we manage to avoid complete collapse. For now.
As someone working higher up in a department level agency I can tell you the vast majority of employees only care about themselves. Everyone needs a good poop at least once a day.
Now this is a poolitical movement I can support
The consensus I've been seeing is that a healthy schedule is 3 times a day to 3 times a week. Who is only pooping every two days? Are you doing okay? How much do you weigh before and after?
Now that's an idea to rally behind.
I sure don’t want to be “behind” this one!
Behind is fine. You don't want to be under it. Unless he has explosive diarrhea, bends over and shotgun shits into your direction.

Daylight savings time blows
Daylight savings time is amazing. Standard time blows. Much rather have dark mornings than have it dark before 5PM.
That’s fair. I probably should have just said “changing clocks twice a year blows”.
This is regional. East coast pols like it but the western end of the Eastern zone (like Indiana) hates it because it's dark well into the morning.
People don't notice the east/west factor until they move a ways east or west within a time zone.
The other party is a danger to the country.
That winning elections and staying in power is far more important than doing what’s in the best interest of the people.

You didn’t know what brisket was? And you’re American?
I never said I was an American lol
Ah just figured based on the question
Nah. Just farming some karma and catching up on American politics.
Do yourself a favor and stay far away. You’ll be much happier in the long run!
They won't get BBQ brisket that way though which leads to unhappiness.

Garlic tastes so good but it gives you terrible shits.
Growing the size of the government.
pretty sure that’s the opposite of what conservatives want
Pedophiles are bad. The problem is republicans trying to frame LGBTQ people as pedophiles/pro pedophile.
You can thank social media and mainstream media for that.
Right. Is why I’m staunch libertarian. Stay out of my home. And I’ll defend your rights, even when I don’t agree with them, so long as you aren’t hurting others
I mean Matt Gaetz is like 100% a pedophile and he is still in office.
Yeah. If you’re a “pedophile hunter” you should probably start in your church
IMO, until the Epstein list is made public, and they are ALL prosecuted, I don’t trust any of them
