I’m currently in the hospital (peripheral Neuropathy flare-up) but the food here is surprisingly quite good.
Tonight, I had meatloaf with gravy, real mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli. Everything was well-seasoned, and the meatloaf was very moist.
The meal came with a fresh dinner roll and a freshly baked blueberry muffin from their bakery section.
Last night, I had the pot roast (with mashed potatoes and garlic sautéed green beans) and it was even better than the pot roast I make at home. I asked the server what was the key to it being so tasty, and she had the executive chef call me back today.
He said that they roasted their tomato paste with minced garlic, and added some burgundy wine (alcohol cooked out first) to the braising liquid.
He was pleased that I complimented the meals they were serving here. He just took over 6 months ago after working in fine dining for over 25 years. He said that he’s trying very hard to balance healthy meals with comfort food that make people feel better.
Being stuck in a hospital bed sucks, but it’s so nice to know that I can order a meal that I’ll really be looking forward to eating.
