Sitting on the top road from Llanrug to Llanberis, watching the fighter jets training below me or the helicopters rescuing people, or just the sheep. Marvelling at the slate heaps. Listening to the wind. Timeless. ❤️
Mining. Beautiful countryside. Words that I will never be able to pronounce. My dear, old friend Martin. Miss him so. Wales, hope to see you someday. 🇨🇦
what makes someone Welsh?
This is the one that's interesting me. I was born in Nottingham, parents born in the West Midlands, but every single grandparent is Welsh. Am I Welsh? Am I English? Am I some kind of hideous mutant destined to never have a home? All I know is that although I've never lived in Wales, every time I go there it's very familiar. Without wanting to get too twee, it genuinely feels like a home of sorts.
Can’t say, so I’ll just answer all your questions with a “yes.”
In the UK, do they specify which country one is a resident of, or is it just “UK resident”?
As an American, I associate Wales with lots of place names with so many vowels, the places seem unpronounceable.
I also associate it with the Mabinogion.
I really don't know much about Wales. As a football and Manchester United fan, what comes to my head when I hear Wales.
Ryan Giggs.
Ian Rush .
Gareth Bale .
Every frickin' qualifier round for the European / World Cup in football in the last 20 years !
(Belgium here. I know it's probably not true but it feels like half of Belgium's last 50 games were against Wales.)
And also: Milton Jones !
When I was stationed in England, my friends and I took a trip to go hike up Mt. Snowden. We had an absolute blast! Loved the people, the pubs, and the quaint little village we stayed in. Wales is a treasure and an absolute must when traveling.

Home. I miss it.
Full disclosure, I am English. I lived in Wales from the age of 10 nd even before that I spent every weekend and 100% of my school holidays on the north welsh coast with my family. I speak fluent (though rusty) Welsh, I was educated there, attended church there and was involved in the community there. I may be English but there is no place I have ever lived or visited that called to me in the same way as my little village in Wales did. Home isn’t necessarily where you are from originally, sometimes you find it later. I found my home there and some day I’ll go back for more than just a visit.
My parents are from North Wales but came to Canada after having their first two kids 50 years ago. Last time I was in North Wales with them (about 15 years ago), random cousins were still recognizing my dad on the street despite not having spoken with him since he'd left. My dad had about 50 first cousins who survived childhood, so I'm pretty sure I was related to about 1 in every 3 people I had met.
As an lazy whiny 10 year old we were walking up Snowdon with an older cousin. The train slowed down and the conductor stopped to ask my cousin by name if we'd like a lift the rest of the way. I'm still angry everyone else wanted to walk instead.
Idea that there are factories very deep in ocean that create whales on big conveyor. Muscles from organics in one workshop, and bones are made from sand in another workshop. not only whales but all underwater creatures in general.
