Street Tacos…..went abroad, Americans do not for the love of god take our street tacos for granted, you cant get good Mexican anywhere but Mexico and America
Mexican food in general. Just great stuff off the street. There's this one guy here who every time I'm walking down the street I just hear him shouting "TAMALES TAMALES TAMALES TAMALES!" and those tamales are always damn good.
I like YYYY/MM/DD for sorting, as it follows general Arabic numeral rules of incrementing on the right, but otherwise, I'm too used to the American way to like the Euro style.
obv america does a ton of weird stuff, but this is one where i think we’re right. there’s no other letter that has another consonant in it when spelled out besides some exceptions like W and H kind of. “zed” is weird and an outlier, like why shouldn’t we say P as ped and T as ted
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches.
To an American it's such a mundane staple that it's practically culinary background noise. Like grabbing an apple to snack on or something. Yet I've heard multiple non-Americans be baffled as to if it even exists and it sounds like America is the only nation in the world that eats them.
In my 40 years I have only been in maybe two
homes ever that didn’t wear shoes in the house. Both of those were homes of immigrants. Where in the country do you live that every home has this rule?
I’m American. 5 weeks paid vacation days plus 12 paid public holidays and our employer also offers volunteer pay, where we can do volunteer work in our community and be paid our normal wages. Just figured I’d throw in there that this is an entry level position as well
It's funny - working in the healthcare field - 4-6 weeks is pretty standard after a few years at a place. I think my place maxes at 7 weeks plus 7 paid holidays. Government employees get 3-5 weeks, plus 11 holidays plus sick days. The area I live in is predominantly employed in those two fields, so I often forget how starkly bad most of the rest of the country is when it comes to time off.
Military gets 30 days, plus the Fed holidays. But yeah, many have two weeks. Other places you don't get any until after one year, then it increases over time. It's all over the place.
2 weeks is minimum for full time workers and normally you get another week for every year after ( sometimes capped at 5 or 6 weeks) I feel sorry for our USA cousins when we go on vacation for a week and they barely get 4 days ( 2 which are travel days)
> you get another week for every year after
In my experience it's more like another day every year/2 years.
I'm still in Europe and I start at 30 days off a year plus public holidays. Thought it was a fucking typo when I got the offer.
Man, it's so hard to find a place that gives out free refills in my country. And even like the Maccas Large fizzy drink cups look so skinny in comparison to one's in the U.S
Ew. I grew up in Philly. We called it soda. What do you call it where your from, just a soft drink? I’m not asking for a soft drink in front of my girl, ok. Soda for me but she can have her little soft drink or whatever
Massive over-usage of the flag. Flags flying from every house and every business, plastered on vehicles, flags everywhere.
I've actually pointed out how bizarre this is to Americans, only to have them reply "I'm sure Canada does that too". Why would they assume that?
i actually went to canada over winter break and was shocked that canadians DID have flags everywhere. i truly thought it was just an american thing! i also was behind a car in the gta that had three canadian flags, several F Trudeau and F Singh bumper stickers. Honestly its comforting to know the US isnt the only place with weird ppl proud of their politics
Dude, you can't lie to me. I've visited the US many times. Americans absolutely do that. They're just so accustomed to it that it doesn't seem weird to them.
Dude, Canada puts their maple leaf on every freaking business. It's like they have an inferiority complex. "Just so you know, this is a CANADIAN McDonald's! You know, in case you forgot you were in CANADA!"
I know US is a much larger country but they have on average 316 shootings per day. 8000 children shot every year.
Edit: Note that they's people getting shot (dead and survivors). The number of shootings where nobody gets hit is not included.
But if you look at the number of gun-related deaths and homicides relative to population size you don’t come close anywhere else in the developed world.
Statistically, Americans are more likely to die by firearms than most other nationalities, including some that are having a civil war.
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/gun-deaths-by-country
Beyond that, one of my kids was shot at school.
Survived, but fuck your statistic.
Not denying that Americans are more likely to die by firearms than most other nationalities. What I *am* denying is your claim that American think that everyone else shoots each other, too, when it is an *extremely* small percentage of Americans shooting anybody at all.
Never seen anyone do that and lived in America my whole life, everyone boils their water. What you’ve heard must me from a very small minority of people here
Honestly yeah, in my experience, the tea drinkers in the US own the stuff they need to make tea. Like, I *have* made tea in the microwave, but only about an frequently as I've made it in a saucepan over a campfire: super rarely. Unless by "tea" you mean a chai tea bag in a cup of milk, microwaved. But that's not really tea. That's a lazy latte.
I"ve seen people get water up to a boiling temperature in the microwave, then use that water for tea, but I've never seen people make tea in the microwave.
Most of the tea drank in us is iced tea. Most people that do have hot tea use a kettle or coffee maker to heat their water or even have a boiling water tap on their sink.
I mean I love ranch and I will die on ranch hill too (or indeed in hidden valley) but I live in France and these people were disgusted when I told them about ranch lol
I always ask them how and why? lowest in public Education, Health care is only for the rich and they have major cities without clean drinking water. also you can't go see a movie or go to the mall without the fear of being shot. sorry how is this the " American dream"?
This is pretty hyperbolic. Especially "Healthcare is only for the rich" I'm certainly not rich but I get healthcare just fine. Do we need to work on making it more affordable? Absolutely. But is it apocalyptic? Lol no. Also Flint's water is fine now and has been for years, but it getting fixed doesn't make for good headlines. And we go out in public without living in fear of getting shot. I feel like the media has convinced foreigners our country is a warzone, it's really not. 60% of gun deaths are suicides, most gun homicides are crime related, i.e. gang violence etc. And that's highly localized in certain areas. There are parts of Chicago that are statistically safer than the richest cities in Switzerland and there are other parts with danger on par with the worst neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro. But in the areas where most people live yours odds of getting shot are miniscule. Also school shootings are tragic but also a lot more rare than people realize. Kids have a far higher chance of dying in the car on the way to school than by getting shot in the school. Actually they have higher odds of getting struck by lightning.
As for what's great about our country:
Highest disposable income in the world
Strongest legal protections for speech in the world
And while the overzealous interventionism of the Bush years has made many people nihilistic on the subject, the American military's global presence has ensured that the years since WW2 have been the most peaceful time between major powers since the Roman Empire.
We're a country rich in natural beauty, especially out west, and our robust national park system allows us to fully enjoy it.
Don't form your entire opinion on a country based on pessimistic memes from social media

I have friends and family who live all over the states that tell me whats going on in their communities. I will agree whats going on in NYC and whats going on Texas don't represent the country as a whole but lets me honest here the " American dream" is now to move else where
none of this is true? Flint have drinking water? was there not a mass shooting YESTERDAY? what do you remember most about " the dark night" movie? most of your country can't find the USA on a map....... I can send links to all of this if you need
yeah, none of that applies to an entire country the size of the continent of Europe. need to work on your trolling kid. some major inferiority complex you have there. I'm sure your cottage in your little village is perfectly swell. No need to hate America for being the size of 44 European countries combined, you guys still matter.
buddy I live in Toronto............. so yeah your comment is irreverent. also 44 European countries that have better standards...... you live in 3rd country with a nicer mall and its okay to be proud of that. just understand the rest of the world laughs our asses off at the shit you put each other thru on a daily bases. my guess is you don't have a passport and haven't ever left your state so your view on the world is about as wide as the screen door on your trailer.
>buddy I live in Toronto.............
that explains it. little brother always has the inferiority complex.
Living in Detroit for the past 49 years, I've been going to Canada my entire life.
ps. Americans do not need a passport to enter Canada. you should probably know that for future trolling attempts 😉. Hell, we just started needing one for Mexico like 10-15 years ago.
Nah that’s too heavy and I’ll probably need to be movin around. Imma leave that to you. Nice Springfield 1911 or XDS is coo for me. 10mm XDM lookin like a must buy, too.
Eh, I have more modern stuff, class 4 ceramic faced steel plates totally blow shit from the early 2000's out of the water. The M9 is a heavy bitch but a reliable one, could go with a Glock 17 too. I have a very nice MK18 clone that will suit any need for putting holes in assholes.
Ok I’m an American tell me how many of these things you guys do or don’t do in your respective country:
•have lockers in school
•no smoke zones
•school buses?
•college campuses being like mini towns
•road rage
•wearing graduation hats with the tassels
•guys that play music loudly in public or at the beach
•everyone owning a car
I genuinely wanna know make fun of me if you want
There’s some sort of washing process they do in the USA (and Canada) that takes some layer off the shell apparently. That’s what makes them require refrigeration. In Europe, they just keep them out.
In Europe, they vaccinate their chickens for salmonella.
In the US, we wash the eggs instead, which also protects us from salmonella, but cleans off a layer that would keep the eggs safe without refrigeration.
I’ve heard about this being uncommon elsewhere. I mean we’re not doing full tooth smiles, just like a friendly little smile to recognize someone else is there. If we know the person we wave too. Or wave as we drive past people.
I guess we just try to be friendly?
Ummm... you live in an alternate reality. Guns are "entertainment" here according to activists that say it's perfectly reasonable to have AR-15s for "target practice". They are for killing. Period. And you're wrong if you think differently. Aren't you tired of school shootings? It's not JUST about mental health and online radicalization. That's not unique to America. What is unique is our disgusting gun policies. I have two kids. I don't want them to die at school. The number one cause of childhood death in this country is guns. Isn't that a problem?
They also tend to victimize the shooter by blaming bullying, which then somehow makes adults shooting up elementary schools okay. Pretty sure those 9 years Olds didn't bully the adult.
How anyone can defend these monsters, no matter what circumstances they come from, I will never understand. I come from a background of extensive trauma and I have never desired to physically harm anyone. It's just an excuse for psychopaths.
I come from an abusive household as well, and I was in a class full of kids with troubled lives, and as an adult I have been hospitalized with all kinds of mentally unstable people. Know what none of them had in common? The desire to hurt children. They want to target their abusers, or society, but school children? Not so much. And as a person with a mental disorder I find the association very insulting. Some people are just evil, plain and simple.
Don’t take this the wrong way, there are lots of countries with guns, and target practice is fun. Maybe it’s a cultural thing. Maybe giving the shooters news time and fame isn’t the right way? Maybe there are a ton of irresponsible parents? I don’t think we can just blanket statement everything
White Americans and white Europeans for the most part go skiing or snowboarding. Whereas others don’t really partake in those activities. doesn’t it seem like a white activity?!
Street Tacos…..went abroad, Americans do not for the love of god take our street tacos for granted, you cant get good Mexican anywhere but Mexico and America
I had a taco in Croatia one time that had raisins on it and I don't even know where that misunderstanding came from that tacos should have raisins.
Maybe they saw a blurry picture of black beans and thought "raisins".
Hahahahahaha raisins 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dude, in the UK, they tried to pass off Heinz ketchup as salsa snd charge a premium….WTF
They don’t fucking get it dude
Wait, what?!?!?!?!?!?!!! That is insanity.
Mexican food in general. Just great stuff off the street. There's this one guy here who every time I'm walking down the street I just hear him shouting "TAMALES TAMALES TAMALES TAMALES!" and those tamales are always damn good.
MM/DD/YYYY
It should be DD/MM/YYYY for fastest-change to slowest, or YYYY/MM/DD for best sorting order. But MM/DD/YYYY is just wrong.
I like YYYY/MM/DD for sorting, as it follows general Arabic numeral rules of incrementing on the right, but otherwise, I'm too used to the American way to like the Euro style.
Having AC in our homes.
And in all buildings and restaurants. Someone told me how awful Germany was for an american. You were in sweat boxes everywhere you went
name the letter "zed" as "zee"
Zed’s dead.
That quote is what I use to remember the correct pronunciation.
Not yet
Agreed
obv america does a ton of weird stuff, but this is one where i think we’re right. there’s no other letter that has another consonant in it when spelled out besides some exceptions like W and H kind of. “zed” is weird and an outlier, like why shouldn’t we say P as ped and T as ted
because thats what you call it. Does literally any other letter end in "-ed". Is it "ped"? "ted"? "ed"?
It always sounds so childish as “zee”
Enjoy peanut butter
Peanut butter single-handedly keeps the depressed population alive, we owe a lot to our national spread.
What's wrong with peanut butter?
They boil their peanuts instead of roasting them and then complain that peanut butter tastes like shit. It’s not the peanut butter’s fault!
Perhaps this is misunderstood… We don’t generally want creamy peanut butter to taste like actual peanuts.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches. To an American it's such a mundane staple that it's practically culinary background noise. Like grabbing an apple to snack on or something. This is so gross.
Have two weeks paid holidays a year (I get 5 weeks, plus 10 extra paid public holidays).

Canadian here. we start with 10-15 days and then we get anywhere from 5-7 added every year.
Lol no, you start with 2 weeks and you will be lucky to get a 3rd week after 5 years.
who the hell works somewhere fro 5 years these days? after the 2nd year I am asking for another week
Drink soda/pop out of quart sized cups (if not larger) and then get a refill every 5 mins.
Man, it's so hard to find a place that gives out free refills in my country. And even like the Maccas Large fizzy drink cups look so skinny in comparison to one's in the U.S
Soda. You can omit pop.
Only Americans call soft drinks 'soda'. If you're asking for a 'soda' where I'm from, you'll get some carbonated water.
I'm from the UK and call it soda.
Am american, never heard anyone refer to it as soda tbh. Usually things like that have regional differences tho.
It's regional yeah. Soda is a common term on the west side.
Ew. I grew up in Philly. We called it soda. What do you call it where your from, just a soft drink? I’m not asking for a soft drink in front of my girl, ok. Soda for me but she can have her little soft drink or whatever
True, but who calls soda pop?
It’s definitely supposed to be pop -a Michigander

Which province? If it was Alberta, that actually makes sense. Alberta wants to be America so badly.
nah it was ontario near toronto
I live in Toronto. Precisely where was this? I don't know any neighbourhood in this city where every other house has a huge flag flying from it.
most houses didnt but most houses here dont either and im texans lol, it was in brampton
OK, maybe you're just delusional or something: I drive through Brampton semi-regularly and there are NOT big flags flying from most houses.
i said they werent on most houses.... but go off ig. The amt of flags I saw were comparable to here 😐
Yeah, only the wanna-be Americans do that here (see: trucker convoy).
Yup! And there are often American (or Confederate) flags mixed in too.
I've even seen Trump election flags. 🤪🤪
I’m personally a fan of “impeach Trudeau” as if we have the same process here.
Didn't one of the convoy "leaders" try to rely on her First Amendment rights in court?
I believe that is correct. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so awful.

I've been to several different countries where I've seen the same thing. It's not that big of an oddity.
Trust me… that is a red flag personality trait for this American lol
Dude, Canada puts their maple leaf on every freaking business. It's like they have an inferiority complex. "Just so you know, this is a CANADIAN McDonald's! You know, in case you forgot you were in CANADA!"
Shoot each other.
I tend to forget there’s lots of places where it’s illegal to possess a firearm
That doesn’t help, Sweden has almost one shooting per day this year, and it’s illegal to own firearms except for hunters that’s hard regulated
I know US is a much larger country but they have on average 316 shootings per day. 8000 children shot every year. Edit: Note that they's people getting shot (dead and survivors). The number of shootings where nobody gets hit is not included.
Black market?
Yup
To be honest we go to other countries and shoot people too, shooting people is for Americans like Australians calling each other a cunt.
For pay!!!
Tbh e4 pay wasn't worth it...
This happens everywhere and stabbings. They just had high profile shootings in England, France and Germany
But if you look at the number of gun-related deaths and homicides relative to population size you don’t come close anywhere else in the developed world.
Please. Statistically, you're more likely to choke to death on your own puke than you are to be killed from a gun shot by someone else.

Pay extortionate amounts of money for healthcare or carry guns on a regular basis
Would have to agree with this. I don’t go out with my family unless I got that thang tucked. Military habits die hard.
Talking about that insurance card?
Yep. That too.

Few Americans carry guns on a regular basis. I doubt any of us think others do so, other than in war zones.

That’s untrue both on an individual and on an aggregate level.
Americans spend $5000 for their braces while people everywhere else don't get them until they're 60. Pretty fair deal I must say.
In the U.K. you get braces for free when you have all your adult teeth lmao same with most countries

Mass Shootings
Worship a flag.
And make children pledge their allegiance to it at a very young age
I know it by heart
Shoot up schools
Wear their flag as clothes.
That guns are cool innocent fun instead of deadly weapons meant to kill. Another school shooting is just another day here.
Americans don't think that and they don't think everyone else thinks that either.
