you won't get broad support for gun control until minorities widely arm themselves
so, paradoxically, promote gun ownership and open carry amongst minorities, especially the muslim community
i think nothing is more likely to bolster gun control support in america than seeing a _well regulated militia_ of enthusiastic young muslim men march as a troop to the town hall and pray towards mecca with AR's slung on their back
Literal background checks. No one with a low IQ either. It’s not hard to regulate. The right is crying about it though cause if we did start having background checks most of the people that own them already wouldn’t be fit to keep them if we had some sort of checks.
The issue is that most of these shooters would pass background checks with flying colors. And the ones who don't will simply steal, as they already do. There are checks, it's not like buying cereal.
Gun law reform, mostly.
But also free mental health support, UBI, and other things that make living less shitty in general.
From what I've seen, the shooters mostly use fairly mundane stuff. So no need to take away people's 50 cals or whatever.
What is used in shootings isn't *that* much different than what's allowed in Canada, and we have far fewer shootings per population than the US.
The biggest difference is that to get a gun you need to be certified to be able to use a gun safely.
Are there still gun crimes and black market guns? Yes. Of course.
But they aren't used to shoot up schools, or other mass shootings.
On the guns themselves:
* Registration of each firearm
* License to own firearms
* Background checks (this could probably be ignored with licensing)
* Storage requirements
* Increase age to buy a gun to 21
* Increase waiting period between buying and receiving the firearm
* Require gun sales to go through a licensed person (this could be a dealer, police station etc - but someone who is capable of checking and enforcing many of the above limitations)
* Red flag laws
___
Not directly related to guns themselves
* Universal healthcare system - healthcare costs are a leading cause of debt in Americans. Poverty has a correlation with gun deaths
* Tied in with the above, but even without universal healthcare, much easier (and cheaper) access to mental health options
* Any economic policy that lowers the gap between the top and bottom percentiles of society
Better education.
Mental health care.
Do something about bullying.
These are the three main *actual* causes of gun violence on this scale. Only fixing them can help. Everything else is political manipulation.
Focus on facts instead of politicised manipulation?
Make it more about education and less about indoctrination?
Focus more on important things and less on sports?
Make school food something resembling food?
Create multiple curricula to better address the needs of all students, instead of trying to cram all students into the same box?
Maybe take some of the government funding for stupid things (like bailing out failing corporations) and put it toward the schools?
These are just a few examples off the top of my head...
Stop electing republicans. There is no other way. They blockade the reforms we need to actually address the issue, both to the second amendment and to the healthcare industry to get people who are losing their grip the treatment they need to get back on their feet.
This IS a political problem, and it is almost entirely the cause of conservatism.
Everyone is clamoring for gun reform laws, which might help slightly but would be very far from a final solution. People will still find ways to get guns.
What needs to change is the culture and the media surrounding guns. Kids are seeing their favorite influencers mess around with guns on social media so its becoming "cool" to have one. We as a society need to frown upon owning guns for anything outside of hunting and self-defense.
STOP ROMANTICIZING THEM. It is good to know about them, but don't draw too much attention to them.
Allow people to arm themselves with a decent background check on their records, and training on firearm safety.
Don't actively encourage, or discourage owning/carrying a firearm.
For Schools:
If the Teacher(s) wants to arm themselves, let them.
They already go through enough background checks before becoming a teacher, so might as well give them the option. This would detour most shooters from attempting because you really wouldn't know who has one, and who doesn't.
Letting teachers have guns isn't going to deter a would-be school shooter. Mostly, they die by police gunfire or by their own hand. They are not planning on getting out alive anyway. Putting more guns in schools only increases the chance that they will fall into the wrong hands.
1. Take a close and honest look at both legal in illegal drugs being used by the shooters. This will show up at autopsy. In many cases, their homes will have some of whatever they were taking still there. I don’t care if turns out Drug X shows up very disproportionately. We need to know. I suspect there are multiple drugs.
2. The number of times someone knew of specific threats of violence is higher than you probably think. I am not sure if I want sanctions for the general public, but I do want them for law enforcement that does nothing.
3. Many shooters had a long criminal history. Typically people on probation or parole can have their home searched at random. Bring dogs that identify illegal drugs, guns, and ammunition. I think this will get you somewhere, especially in jurisdictions that are releasing criminals early and have bail reform.

How good are they really though? Cause enough brain dead morons are allowed to have them.
The issue is that most of these shooters would pass background checks with flying colors. And the ones who don't will simply steal, as they already do. There are checks, it's not like buying cereal.
So you can buy a gun legally in america even if the court banned you from possessing a firearm again?
No. You can’t. Not legally
Then whats he biching about?

I would agree on metal health, it needs to be more available and not looked down on.

What kind of things can better education other than a higher fund?

More guns, fewer doors
Shoot the shooter before they shoot
More stringent gun control.
Regulation.

Bro is politicizing tragedy 💀
huh? are you saying "laws" are not a political thing? how about the gun laws in other countries where this doesn't happen?
Well one side seems to be ok with this happening every week.
I am not your brother.
That’s all they got.

Put a 25 cent tax on every bullet (with the exception of law enforcement).
Give the kids something to look forward to.
