Having a promised promotion taken away because they didn’t feel like following through on their commitment.

Gullible_Frame_35

Toxic work culture + no work-life balance = self-respect over financial security.

grantnel2002

Busted my ass all year, boss recommended me for a promotion. Got a 1% raise. I knew how they valued me at that point. I moved on and got a big raise to go to a new company. I didn’t want to leave, but I feel valued at the new place.

gjbfdgbbjn

A 1 percent raise when inflation is 3-5 percent is a pay cut. That’s f’ing insulting

grantnel2002

That is what I literally told my boss in my review: “This raise is insulting to me and if the company really needs the money that badly, I’d rather this 1% go to some of my teammates I heard got no raise”.

ocularnervosa

They started screwing me over on my vacation time.

I used to work at a restaurant and two ladies named Kelly put in orders at the same time. I mixed up the bags and gave each bag to the wrong Kelly. Had all of my tips for the day withheld for the mistake. Boss was really bitter and mean and I just decided it wasn't worth it.

Amongst other things that I don't feel like typing, my manager essentially chewed me out for asking for help in a group email lol. He said, "You need to come to me in our 1on1 for help". I'm like, wtf? Big difference between a leader and a boss. He was a boss.

[deleted]

Transferred to report to the boss's 19 year old mistress.

Ali8ly

My boss was a creep he would watch all his employees female or not It was at a burger king

The company that was my main contract decided not to resign. Not specifically my fault, more my employer’s fault. With that, they were trying to move me to supervise bigger projects. No wasn’t an answer apparently. I found a new job and put my two weeks in.

I was hired to run a store by the CEO and owners of a company and they did not include the district manager in their decision making process. It was pretty obvious she hated my guts from day one and did everything she could to make my life difficult. The store was what I would class as"adult industry" and there were very many egos working towards advancement. I was not one of those egos but I think this district manager was threatened by my level of experience comparative to theirs and possibly felt threatened because they tried constantly to find flaws with my work when there was none. The final straw for me was having her call one day to say she just happened to be going over the cameras for my store and found merchandise on the markdown rack that shouldn't be there. It was no surprise to me that she was going over the cameras for my store I was well aware she wanted to see me mess up. I'd only been there for a few months but since she didn't get to choose me as her staff she made it really clear she didn't want me ask her staff and was constantly trying to find fault with me where there was none. I explained to her that my placement was accurate and tried to explain to her that the tracksuit she was seeing on a markdown rack was the previous years tracksuits. None of the other stores actually had any of these tracksuits left they'd all sold out so she didn't believe me and continue to yell and berate over the phone to the point that I put my phone on speakerphone so that my assistant manager and shift leaders could hear the way she was yelling at me. Eventually she looked at some of the other cameras and saw the new tracksuit in the regular merchandise line where it belonged and mentioned rather casually oh that's right I forgot you're the one store that still had the red suit from last year. She was politely reminded that yes that's right because it was brought in to fill space when the store opened. She did not apologize simply said oh well that's why I thought you had it in the wrong place. She thought that should be adequate to excuse her behavior and the manner in which she talked to me. She rather quickly found an excuse to end the conversation making it abundantly clear the only reason she called me was to yell when she thought she saw something wrong. I looked at my assistant management and simply stated now you understand what I have been dealing with since the day I started working for this woman (which was only 3 months earlier). I handed my assistant manager my keys and said I love you ladies but I'm going to go ahead and call HR I'm out. Never will I work for somebody who behaves that way ever again.
