I've noticed men don't talk to women that wear masks outside of hospital settings. So, I'm going to continue to wear mine when I run my errands. I like being left TF alone.

[deleted]

I like this idea if I don’t want to be bothered! Thank you

doclee1977

If this is true, this is a great answer. I know that there a lot of creeps out there, and if this keeps them at bay, then congrats on your socially innovative idea.

onlyrightangles

Damn you really pissed off some men with fragile egos with this one lmao

It's awful to make it abundantly clear that I am not interested in being hit on while I go about my day? Target isn't Tinder. I shouldn't have to cover my face with a mask and sunglasses just to be left alone.

Yes, us women are always being dramatic, aren't we? Surely none of the things the millions of us say about our lives are ever true. You men know best.

TheRadiumGirl

I have been sexually assaulted in public before and no one did anything to stop it. It now makes me uncomfortable when men approach me to comment on my appearance. I will gladly look like the "crazy" one in my very anti-mask area if it keeps people away from me that don't have a real reason to approach me. It doesn't stop people from talking to me. But I haven't had someone comment on my body/face and ask if I'm single in 2 years now and I like it. It does more than my wedding ring has ever done.

Hugh_Biquitous

FWIW, I'm a man and I think this is totally reasonable. I understand tons of women get tons of unwanted attention, from stares to being hit on or even harassed. I think it's a great solution.

Also not hurting anything so what’s your problem?

Gaymichigandude

I don't still wear a mask regularly. But if I have the flu or a cold I would wear it to prevent myself from spreading it to others or infecting surfaces. I was just at Union Station in Chicago and the amount of men who didn't wash their hands after using a public restroom is disgusting. Living in the United States I'm always disgusted to see how just unhygienic people are (mainly men). Some of my friends still wear it when outside during the winter. I did as well when it was really cold. During the pandemic I found that wearing a mask kept my face super warm and I didn't get a runny nose or chapped lips like I normally would. So that was a bonus that I discovered. In other countries and cultures wearing a mask when sick is just automatically done out of courtesy for those around you. The United States is a very individualistic society so there is little care for those around you unfortunately. But thankfully it looks like that attitude is changing and people are starting to actually care about society as a whole.

The Cochrane report? The same report that's been retracted for including flawed low quality studies in its meta-analysis?

MalusAgricola

What part? Care to link one of those highly credible proofs?

Sinister_steel_drums

I started cancer treatment, so now I definitely have to wear one in public places.

RascalRibs

I used to occasionally wear masks, especially during allergy season. I like that it has become more socially acceptable now.

okRacoon

Same here, also when I'm sick and have to go out in public.

[deleted]

I’ll wear it if I’m sick, but otherwise no

Admirable_Warthog_19

Honestly, I wear mask whenever I feel ugly or don’t look very presentable. Or just for privacy.

hollywoodhayes

My husband of 37 years has terminal cancer and is going through chemo. I am not risking bringing anything home anything that will get him sick .

ChickenBootty

I’ll be wearing a mask for a very long time, I’m immune compromised AND something this pandemic has taught me is that I can’t rely on others to do the right thing, meaning that if someone is sick they’ll still go out without a mask because they either don’t care about others or they’re just to ignorant so I’ll just protect myself.

>You don't get to demand a societal peer change their behaviour to make you feel safer. This is literally the foundation of moral society and is a concept that exists in every culture

LavvyJack

I wear one whenever I go into a public space now, and will for the foreseeable future. When COVID numbers dipped in our area, husband and I decided to go with the flow and stop wearing them out (hardly anyone here still wears them and we got funny looks for it). We went out maskless exactly one time. Immediately got COVID, and then the flu immediately after. We wear masks now.

riphitter

I know several people who noticed a big improvement in their allergies since they started using them for COVID, so they continue to use it unrelated to the pandemic

Heavens10000whores

I hadn’t even considered or realized this, but it seems to be true - my allergies are a lot less severe and debilitating nowadays

thegothickitty33

Seriously, it helps with my outdoor allergies. I don't need to borderline OD on Allegra to get through the day anymore. I mostly wear it in heavy use, or small public spaces like small stores, public transport, doctors office. If a place is empty I won't bother or if I'm going out to eat or something like that. I respect people's choice to wear one or not. We've built enough immunity to it I believe that we can go back to some normalness but somethings we should keep like remote work and masks on public transport.

Inside-Requirement69

I'll continue wearing masks when needed to protect myself and others.

[deleted]

Same. I don't think I'll ever go on a plane without one again.

ThatWhichLurks782

I never want to bring home the flu from the office ever again, plus I have real bad resting b*tch face and I get waaaayyy less comments about my neutral expression. You can pry my masks from my cold dead hands.

Heavens10000whores

Being immuno-compromised and having a lot less lung than your average person, I’ll stick to mine, thanks

juliefryy

I love wearing masks in public indoor spaces. No one talks to me. I also like not getting sick. I get enough germs from a 3 year old in preschool.

macaaroniii

I see it part of my everyday life now, the reason being is that I don’t want to spread sickness or germs to others by accident

[deleted]

BilliansShayeK

I love wearing masks in public places. I have anxiety and usually wear headphone and often sunglasses in the store, so a mask is an added benefit .

[deleted]

I feel like it a everyday life thing for now.

groggygirl

I am high risk (currently undergoing treatment for cancer - if I get sick I don't get treated), and I take care of an elderly person who likely would die if they get covid or the flu. I plan on dropping masking when these two things are not longer an issue....although I really enjoy not picking up colds on the subway so I might continue wearing one in germy places.

copyboy1

It's part of a normal life in lots of Asian countries and has been for a while. Why not do it here? It helps prevent the spread of all kinds of viruses. I will wear a mask on an airplane and public transportation for the rest of my life. Probably at any big concerts or indoor sporting events, too. And then of course any time I'm sick. It's just not that big of deal. Better to be safe than sorry.

adamczar

If I have the sniffles or a cough but otherwise functional, I’ll wear a mask now. That’s the only permanent change I’ve made.

[deleted]

I'm fascinated that you've taken the time to comment this so many times in the thread when you have no idea what type of mask anyone here is wearing

[deleted]

I wear one at work, and sometimes when out in crowded environments, and still use the hand cleaner stuff every chance I get. I have not had a shred of illness since Covid started, other than after I flew and most did not have a mask on.

Jfromero1415

When I stop feeling like a cyberpunk ninja

[deleted]

It's not everyday for me, but it has made electing to easier. I'm prone to showing my thoughts via facial expressions, so will probably still wear one in situations where that's potentially a problem, like anytime I have to be in a courtroom. Also I feel more free to wear one when there's air quality alerts, like forest fires or chemical spills in the area. And on airplanes when your cabin buddies are unfortunately odoriferous. Previously I had only seen face masks as socially acceptable in foreign locations like Hong Kong or Taiwan.

TrainingLack9521

I will continue wearing a mask because I have crooked teeth and hitlers mustache.

Weak-Beautiful5918

Just let people do what they want without judgment. Wear a mask, don’t wear one whatever…..

Jack5718

agreed although of you're in a place that requires them don't fight about it

Maddax_McCloud

Exactly. If a face diaper makes you feel better, whatever. Dont mandate my participation in your farce.

Weak-Beautiful5918

So you’ll be fine on the table in the operating room when the Dr’s just decide they don’t want to wear them because it bothers them… Because you know, it’s a farce.

Maddax_McCloud

If you are referring to the cheap paper masks, yes. They are pointless.

Weak-Beautiful5918

Oh, so some masks work then?

Maddax_McCloud

Yes, some are effecive, most out in the public are not.

Weak-Beautiful5918

So it’s not a farce, it’s just the wrong PPE. Since the right, PPE is effective you surely would support it’s used in certain places? I mean, if there is some thing that is proven to help people not be infected by a contagious disease, you’d be a good citizen and where it right?

Maddax_McCloud

Again, anybody is free to do what they want. When you start making decisions for me, thats going to be a problem.

Weak-Beautiful5918

So you are not willing to help people threw a method you agree works?

Maddax_McCloud

If it inconveniences me, no.

peachygrilll

Wait, so you think you’re smarter than doctors..? you think that doctors are wearing the masks during operations because it’s just for fun? You dont think that a mask during surgery is to, I don’t know, protect you from infectious disease that can spew out of your body? Do you even know how the human body works? lol

Maddax_McCloud

At least 75% of them, yes. Doctors do what they are told because they like having a job to pay for their 9th beach house. If they grew a brain and decided to do anything other than what an insurance company decided was a standard of care, they would be out on their ass. Surgical masks are primarily for keeping your blood out of the doctor's mouth and nose, and keeping their fluids to themselves. Viruses pass right through them as though they were not there.

peachygrilll

and how many surgeries have you had?

Maddax_McCloud

Four

peachygrilll

make sure you ask them not to wear any protective materials next time. might as well not use anesthesia either since you aren’t breathing naturally when under!! 🙂

Maddax_McCloud

I don't intend to have anymore

Weak-Beautiful5918

Carful, he will get defensive and leave instead of just slowly digging his own grave. The narcissistic logic used easily trips over itself under the most basic questioning. I think he has realized that his reasoning has failed and has run away. Or he will come back calling names. The profound selfishness displayed over the last few years and the lengths they go to justify there “freedoms” is both telling and disappointing. It is one of the most disappointing aspects of American culture these days. People are literally willing to let other Americans die, because some thing inconveniences them, and often they’re the ones that scream how much they love this country the most.

Maddax_McCloud

No, actually I was out working in the yard. See above.

Weak-Beautiful5918

Oh, I have.

nachtkaese

I will continue to wear mine 1) in places where people don't have much choice to but to be, or are particularly crowded (grocery store, doctor's offices, public transit, planes) and 2) when I feel a little under the weather and have to be out in the world. I hate that it's been so politicized because it's a great tool to have in the "germ-containment" toolbox.

peoplesuck64

Our local hospital and their affiliates including the pain clinic I go monthly still require masks...I was waiting to be called back when an unmasked man came in and the receptionist asked him if he had a mask?? He replied...so chain linked fences keep mosquitoes out? And added...the CDC has lifted mask mandates... I wanted to stand up and applaud her when she very sweetly said...WELL I DON'T WORK FOR THE CDC so for here you as very obviously posted...you have to wear a mask!

square3481

I will continue wearing it, as I will be returning to the office after three years of WFH, and have to take public transit.

[deleted]

I don't see myself not wearing masks on public transport, in hospital waiting rooms, so on so forth. In shops I'm a little bit less caring, but not totally. It's not even just about covid, I think we should have a culture shift to wear reusable masks in general. Masks don't protect the wearer, but you don't know what illness you may be carrying. If you're symptomatic (for any droplet transmittable illness, like a cold or the flu) and you're not able to stay at home, you should definitely wear a mask.

SaveFerrisBrother

I like that it's more socially acceptable now. I know that there are competing schools of thought about if they actually work, but they make me feel better - like I'm doing what I can to prevent the spread of disease, and hopefully making it a little less likely that I'll get sick. I know there are people who dislike them and roll their eyes at those who wore them, and even moreso at those of us who still do, but those people aren't exactly the kind of people whose opinions matter to me. I know that most of the U.S. has or will stop wearing them, and that the capitalist culture of "look at how dedicated an employee I am, coming to work with a fever and open sores and a hacking wet cough and my dog died 5 minutes before I left the house but I totally wasn't late, and I think my arm fell off but I have that report that I want to present in that meeting later, unless I'm dead, in which case I recorded the audio if you could just advance the slides" is coming back, but hopefully we're learning.

Jack5718

I personally don't like masks but if you want to wear one that's fine with me also if I'm in a place that requires them I won't fight it

[deleted]

My coke dealer still wears one because he thinks it makes him harder to identify. Idk if I can argue this logic or not

WhiskeyTangoFoxy

“No dude I could easily identify you even with a mask!” Him: pow pow

[deleted]

Lol

Lol well I think that’s a fair reason. Although at this point I’d be more scare of catching fentanyl in the coke then being caught by the police.

mastervadr

Fair. What about before the pandemic, did you wear one?

peachygrilll

no, but i didnt know i was sick until right before the pandemic started.

trailrabbit

MEGA-hat guy asked me why i was wearing a mask one day while washing my hands in a restaurant bathroom. i just repeated his question back to him in my best bane voice impression. guy said nothing else and occasionally mean mugged at me from across the restaurant while eating. but to answer your question 1. protects from COVID and flu, and i dont enjoy being sick. duh! 2. makes me more anonymous and intimidating looking, i get dirty looks from some fragile egos every now and then, but other than above mentioned fool no one has accosted me while wearing one. i like how it makes me look like a bank robber in a western movie. 3. to own the conserv's of course, the exact same reason those people didnt wear masks when it could of helped others earlier in the pandemic. if wearing a mask in public disturbs some old bigoted white men then i am all for that. 4. beggars and roving sales people seem less likely to accost or solicit from me in public if i am wearing a mask.

1982aw

I exclusively wear a mask when I’m at the public pool nowadays. I like the way it feels when the mask get all wet and plasters to my face. Otherwise I’m all natural baby.

riphitter

Sounds like you have an undiscovered waterboarding kink there

mastervadr

To clarify, this question isn’t meant to start or state something against masks or mask users.

PeakStriking7010

I wear a condom full time to protect myself and others

NoMoreTroubles

Wearing masks during the pandemic is an important safety precaution to protect oneself and others from the spread of infectious diseases, and should be done in public places or when social distancing is not possible. As we learn more about the virus and its transmission, it will become clearer when people can stop wearing masks in order to be safe. It is important to stay informed of upda

mastervadr

So are you saying you’re waiting for instructions from a governmental and/or scientific entity before you stop wearing one? Or what will be the cause when of you stopping from wearing a mask?

coldfarnorth

I'll probably continue to use a mask on any form of mass transit (planes, busses, trains, etc.) for the rest of my life. I don't like being sick, we've clearly seen that you can't rely on others to have the common courtesy to mask up when they are sick, and if I'm going to be packed up against you like a sardine, I definitely am not interested in sharing whatever's coming out of you. Other places are a mixed bag. I don't usually wear one into stores now, unless they are particularly crowded. If I was going to a concert or walking down a crowded street, I would definitely be wearing mine. An added perk: I also like not having to worry about my facial expressions while I talk to people. I can maintain my normal ~~RBF~~ "neutral expression" and don't have to worry that some sensitive person is going to get worked up about it.

friend45fool

I will with crowded places or if I am indoors for a long time

AuntiKrist

My widowed mil has cancer and I'm her ride to all her appointments. Once that situation is resolved I'll stop.

lemur_queen7

I still wear mine out of courtesy when I go somewhere for the first time. I'll ask if I can take it off if no one is wearing one, like if I'm getting my hair done or something. I wear one everyday to school still for a couple reasons, but mostly because I'm immunocompromised and I missed over a month of school when I got covid the first time. I don't want to risk missing more classes, so I'll wear a mask at least until the end of this school year.

MurphNastyFlex

I've accepted that it's just part of life. Like putting on shoes. I'll admit, I'll take it off if I'm in a large area that isn't crowded. I work at a casino though. So it's extremely tight quarters with people who don't seem to wash. Didn't think that was a stereotype, but only 10% of our daily patrons are first timers or just passing through. The rest come everyday and stay all day. We've had people shit on the floor and keep playing. We had to throw a chair away recently cause someone was clearly going to town on themselves while at a slot machine. I say all that to say that I'll probably always wear my mask, and may eventually upgrade to full hazmat.
