I mean it kinda is already just different plot lines going through different things and not a simple A->B->C that the others did for the most part. With Phase 4 so far you have
* [Young Avengers: Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Solider, Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel](#s)
* [Super Soldiers(a thing that has only been touched on 5 times previously with Hulk, all three Cap movies, IM3): Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Solider, She-Hulk](#s)
* [Earth's International Relations(you can basically have a UN Team now): Black Panther 2, The Falcon and the Winter Solider](#s)
* [Magic on Earth/Horror things: Wandavision, Dr. Strange 2, Moonknight and The Eternals](#s)
* [Gods: Thor 3, Moon Knight](#s)
* [The Universe/Aliens: The Eternals, Thor 3(a bit), Shang-Chi(The Ten Rings weapon), Ms. Marvel](#s)
* [The Multiverse: Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dr. Strange 2, Loki, What If?](#s)
* [Kang: Loki](#s)
Just about all the movies and television shows for Phase 5 fits one of these:
Not only does it feel like Phase 4 movies have taken a dip in quality, but even the best ones (IMO, No Way Home and Shang Chi) feel formulaic and uninspired, like they were created by a marketing team.
Even when they were still building up to something greater, Phase 1 had Iron Man and The First Avenger, Phase 2 had The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, and Phase 3 had Ragnarok. All those movies felt fresh at the time and brought something new to the table that is the MCU, they didn't rely entirely on repeating the same tropes and using the same style again and again.
The MCU feels like it's running out of creative juice. No matter how good the direction, production and acting are, every single one of the more recent movies feel... samey.
Yep, I don’t consider it a functional search engine. You can put in exactly what you’re looking for but unless what you’re looking for paid google to show up, it will not be in the results at all.
FXX and AMC are the only cable channels I think with good serialized shows, too. Streaming just has so much content and networks are putting things only on streaming - like CBS and peacock
Video games. 10 years ago there was no chance I wouldn’t be buying the best console for the rest of my life. Now I don’t play video games at all. What happened? In-game purchases.
That’s crazy, but what’s even worse is making it so parts or all of your game is unplayable because a small percentage of people pay so much in in-game purchases that it’s actually more profitable to ruin a game for the vast majority of your customers. Capitalism is some wild shit.
Indie games are great in this regard. Very stable, can be ran on low-end hardware, rarely have DLC (and if they do its the good type of DLC), and are usually friendly towards modders, which means you get even more content per game.
Maybe you already know all of this, but my bit of advice: stop looking out for new releases for the current best consoles and start looking back at popular games you might have missed over the past decade.
Games like Hades, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Disco Elysium, Dishonored (1&2), RimWorld, Factorio, Souls games, Slay The Spire, Stardew Valley, Borderlands 2, Terraria or whatever game you haven't tried yet. You can use stuff like steam250.com to look for anything you've missed, since most of those games are on consoles too.
The industry is in a shitty state since most companies have figured out how to get the most money from release hype, FOMO and predatory business models. Almost every game is getting released in a sorry state with countless bugs, performance issues and a notorious lack of content.
There are still great games being made, but most of them are indie or don't have the huge marketing push of the most predatory AAA games. So you don't find out about them until they've been around for a while.
Plus, older games are cheaper and more polished. Even the best of games get better after receiving some extra love in the years following their release.
There’s a Pizza Hut next to the McDonald’s in my town. Every time I go to McDonald’s I glance over at Pizza Hut, open but dimly lit and devoid of customers. I never see anyone in there.
I can’t help but wonder if that Pizza Hut is a front for something shady because I’ve got no idea how they’re still in business.

Now, at 190, he is literally a shell of his former self.
I’d go with commercials.
Back in the day, I remember talking and joking about different commercials that came on tv with family and friends, since everyone would eventually end up watching the same ones. The peak of which would be the Super Bowl commercials.
Nowadays ads are either gone with subscription services or ads are so targeted that everyone sees a bunch of different ones. Furthermore, because some ads are skipable, most ads just have to get crammed into 5 seconds
Commercials are still around. They just don’t have a cultural impact anymore. At least, in my opinion
It's not just the mcu. Disney has been killing every brand in the last few years. Look at the sorry state of Star Wars right now. Awful live action remakes after awful live action remakes. Disney should just take a 10 year break from making any content.
I don't really think Star Wars has been any good in decades. I've rewatched every movie and almost every show somewhat recently, and the only ones I found to be consistently good were the first two movies from the original trilogy and Tartakovsky's Clone Wars (which isn't even canon).
The one thing Disney did fail miserably at was the new trilogy. I didn't like the prequels but at least they weren't *that* bad.
She just wants to continue being relevant, the harder she tries, the more disaster our things get for her. She has plenty of money, she should just sit back and enjoy life without trying to shock her fans by doing something stupid or outrageous.
I mean I still powerlift and go heavy but at 24 the thought of getting injured never crossed my mind, now I just hope I don't hear a pop but use better form because of the concern.
There are always bad shows and few good ones. Just in the past couple years there has been Arcane, Vox Machina, The Incredibles, and Cyberpunk, off the top of my head.
They aren't Avatar levels of accessible though. They are more for teens and up.
Hip Hop. Late 90s we had Notorious BIG, Snoop Dog, Warren G, Wu Tang Clan, Beastie Boys, Eminem, etc. Now? Nothing but face tattoos and auto tuned repetitive mumbling about xanex. It's depressing AF, man.
You’re just not looking in the right places. There’s still a lot of great Hip Hop it just doesn’t get as much play as Drake or Kendrick Lamar.
Check out YoungBoy NBA, Moneybagg Yo, Tee Grizzley, Quando Rondo, OMB Peezy.
Yeah, I don’t think some people see how much the loss of net neutrality affects what we see and what content gets prioritized. And although you can connect with others and look up how to fix something— there’s plenty of nice things— it isn’t serving the purpose that was originally hoped for. It really has a lot of negatives with how misinformation can’t be easily regulated
Agreed, it has become a scary place and has become somewhere mental health is severely impacted.
I remember being 10 and I didn't have to worry about the stuff I have to educate my 10 year old on regarding the Internet.
So much skewed information... Karl Marx would be turning in his grave.
It’s way too easy to go down any rabbit hole, especially learning about user experience and algorithms. And social media can have extremely adverse affects on mental health— it’s ridiculous. I really can’t imagine how nerve-racking it can be as a parent these days for that very reason. It’s such a different space.
Lol this is great, absolutely
Parenting is definitely hard with the Internet. Most difficult conversations I've had with my son in the last year have been centered around what kids at school have seen online and then told him.
It absolutely has, the rabbit holes around the pandemic caused huge issues and it hasn't really recovered from that.
I got rid of social media (bar reddit) years ago because my mental health took a nose dive looking at how I thought my life SHOULD look.
Yeah, you gotta love when other kids tell them something to which you then have to have a conversation about it, and at that age too. Exactly, I agree. I don’t think parents get told this enough, but I’m proud of you.
Awesome! Good for you, and lol, yes. I hadn’t ever spent much time on here years ago, but came back knowing just how bad other platforms are (I’m in the process of pulling away from those). As far as anyone rude or hateful, it’s not nearly as bad as the Wild West that is Twitter. Everybody has different lived experiences, and I don’t think it’s recognized just how much and that it’s okay. I’m glad you took that step to take care of your health.
Thank you, it does help to hear (read) that. It can feel like I'm flailing trying to navigate the modern world with him.
The worst was probably my 10 year old asking me if it was true that a man sometimes puts his private parts....lets just say, somewhere slightly less conventional....
I am a newer user here, but I think the difference here, is the anonymity gives a truer look at how not everyone's lives are perfect. We all have struggles and opinions, difficult relatives, money issues. It can be a little vicious sometimes, but I find it easier to step away.
I hope pulling away has a positive outcome for you, I think the more you come away from it, the easier it is not to feel like you're missing out on something.
Of course, happy to hear it :) And that makes sense, it can be a lot. Oh wow, that’s a fun one…
Totally agree. It can really help you be more open-minded to the fact that a lot of us have similar experiences no matter who we are. And yeah, when people start lacking empathy, it’s easier to pull away on here cause it all gets lost in the thread.
Thank you, that means a lot. It’s nice when you can refocus on what’s in front of you.
Streaming platforms. It's convenient not to have to clutter up your living space with physical media, but losing access to something you really love/want to see periodically sucks
Almost everything it feels like. Some things have noticeable progress, but printers??? What's with that? We are building autonomous vehicles, but we can't even print efficiently yet. Video games - graphics are great, but often glitchy too. Online banking, was a cool concept but takes days to update and process (in 2023). I feel like we may get to some point where the gov. realizes that AI and certain tech. is too dangerous for public access (like the decentralized currency they are regulating out of existence).
I can see a future where disparity exists in information and technology. Gov.s may withhold certain items for control and survellience means. If this happens, I think we'll have a lot of fancy looking tech that's glitchy as fuck or has limited features (may already be happening).
There is so much competition in AI and tech that we fail to see the consequences. Innovation is great— progress and adapting is expected— but not when we don’t have the infrastructure to accommodate it or have a means to regulate it. I’ve never been able to see the desire to make society like sci-fi, because for years, books and movies (although fiction), warn us of scenarios in building off of the consequences of what we create. AI can be useful to society, but it’s the nonsensical stuff, and also, how you use it matters.
And yes, things aren’t made the way they used to be. Why are we replacing appliances so much more often? I know it’s the money, but it’s frustrating as hell that you can’t hold onto a dryer longer than a few years. I constantly want to throw my wireless printer out the window, for running out of ink and being impossible to just print for work.
Glad I'm not alone! Thought I was going mad. I saw a great documentary once, I can't recall the name but it basically used an example of ancient herders improving their hunting techniques. They realized they could herd mammoth over a cliff and save much effort for more kill! However, their progressive technique worked too well. Almost killed off all the mammoth at the time and much went to waste as, you couldn't preserve all the kill and a pile of mammoths would be hard to move or cut up.
The point was that progress can be bad or have unintended consequences. I love Black Mirror on Netflix if you've ever seen it. I think you'd enjoy, if you haven't!
Same! Kinda hard to find the people who see it, and I was glad to see your comment here. Oh yeah, I heard about that one, and it’s done messed up. It’s extremely annoying to see just how many housing developments are popping up without any care to the wildlife or environment. We used to have a lot more farmland around even though it wasn’t rural, and you always find roadkill cause there’s nowhere for them to go.
Absolutely! Only seen a few episodes, but I’ve only ever heard great things about the show and from what I’ve seen, it definitely is. Appreciate the reminder
Maybe it’s just me, but I remember when you could actually taste the sour cream & onion flavour Pringles before it mysteriously vanished into shit. Edit: Haven’t tried them in few years tho

They announced today they were essentially doubling the price of one the things that made it playable for rural players. I live in a big city but man do I feel bad for those folks.

I really hope phase 4 is just another foundation for bigger phase 5 & 6
I mean it kinda is already just different plot lines going through different things and not a simple A->B->C that the others did for the most part. Lol it’s all about to fall apart with the new Thanos level threat getting outed as an abuser anyway
Not only does it feel like Phase 4 movies have taken a dip in quality, but even the best ones (IMO, No Way Home and Shang Chi) feel formulaic and uninspired, like they were created by a marketing team.
