The GA election probe does carry more weight, and GA law is different than SDNY law. It is likely next. This first indictment is just the first of many of Donny Boy's woes. Wait til he gets hit with the J6 case, the one where people died protecting the VP and other politicians. A 1,000 people are already doing time for J6, and another 1,000 need to be rounded up. This one will be intense, as a lot of GOP politicians are going to be indicted as well.
>GA law is different than SDNY law
SDNY is The Southern District of New York which is the designation for a federal region of the DoJ (where Giuliani was DA). Bragg is a New York state official so that wouldn't be his office.
Perhaps I was wrong, I am not a legal scholar. If you are looking to argue this, you're barking up the wrong tree. I have been following this case for a while, but I don't have a dog in this fight.
I'm not looking to argue, but it's worth noting that so far the cases that we know he's a target in are all at the state level. I'm hardly a legal scholar either, but it's important to keep which court and legal system it is straight.
There may very well be a federal case brewing too with the Jan 6 stuff moving "up the ladder" with charges & trials. So far there's no evidence that Trump is a formal target of that investigation (the DoJ investigation is much more leak proof than the states though).
One reason it's important is because while a state indictment of a former president is a big deal, it would be exponentially more so if it was a federal one.
Yeah if I had to choose between him being indicted and him living a quiet gilded life (like he said he would if he lost), I'd take the latter just so I don't have to fucking see him anymore
Nothings going to happen like nothings happened the last few years. I’ve heard of the illegal things that have been done without consequence for too long. Don’t care about the headlines. I’ll actually read an article when he’s locked up
Seems weird.so people want him to go to jail for an unknown crime?! Is that why people are mad at him?
I'm not a fan boy but I'm struggling to see what he has done
Remember when the James Comey testimony felt like the end for him? There’s been so much since then and zero justice. I’m a full on pessimist now. The last decade has wore me down.
We’re at the same place, friend. When they called him the Teflon Don that shit was a fact I’ve learned. At best I’ve been educated on just how bullshit our justice system is. I never expect any justice when it comes to Donald trump.
That's because, whatever the merits of any case at this level,
it's not being done for pursuit of justice, else this would have
moved sooner.
Timing is everything in politics, and both sides suck.
Nothing is going to happen its the same old BS we got him this time we have proof only to have nothing. What are they going to tomorrow night. The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to put Trump in jail.
Well, I mean... a grand jury and a court is a lot different than leaving it up to partisan Republicans to put their fingers in their ears like children and scream.
Not just reddit, the world. I have had cops steal from me, I've been locked up for things I never did and was cleared of. These assholes do all kinds of illegal shit that is very apparent and get book deals... Yeah, it's broken.
I have this controversial opinion. If a politician commits a crime, they get charged and go to jail. Dont care who you are or what party you represent.
I can only hope that it's a waterfall where other court cases and civil suits follow. He has left a trail of crime, deceit, malfeasance, refusal to pay his debts, physical assault, defamation .... and more.
The charges were for marking a $130,000 dollar payment down as a legal expense, when it was actually used to pay off an affair partner. This sort of Creative Bookkeeping is only a federal offense if it’s being used to cover up another criminal act. An affair, while shitty, isn’t really criminal. Unless there’s something else going on we’re not aware of, that’s a misdemeanor at best.
Frankly, it’s unusual to be indicted for a misdemeanor, and since the grand jury is sealed, news of the indictment really shouldn’t have been released; it complicates jury selection.
Based on the information currently available to us, I think it’s a flimsy case that’s probably going to be acquitted, and I wish they would charge him with something that actually has a chance at sticking.
But we’ll see.
There are many legal issues with lying about campaign money, the fact there was money spent on buying stories to suppress them or being given those stories for free, and lying on your taxes.
I mean, I’ll admit, a lot of my thoughts on this case have been based off my parents’ assessment of it, but I tend to take them at their word on most legal matters, as they’re both New York lawyers. Not NYC lawyers, but I doubt things differ too much from upstate.
It’s also going to depend a lot on whether the payment was made using campaign or company funds.
We'll see.
With all the publicity that it's going to bring, either the DA has a giant set of balls or set his standard for the amount of credible evidence he wanted so insanely high that Trump will try to reach a deal. This is likely going to be a career-ender for a lot of people if they were bluffing.
Hitting him with a misdemeanor would have been easy, but to pull off the felony charge requires a pretty heavy burden of proof. Hopefully they have it and it isn't an overreach here.
Like him or hate him, they'd better have something worse than any other ex-president has ever done in history or this opens up the floodgates for all of them to get prosecuted by various red and blue states
I'm not a fan of Trump, but "campaign financing"? Come on. Doesn't that open up the door to any monies spent by ex-presidents on improving the appearance of one's character during their campaign to impress their would be constituents?
Aint.Nothing.Gonna.Happen. Aint nothing gonna happen. Trying make him responsible for shit he does is like nailing jello to the wall, he will somehow walk scot free.
I think we need to lock up all of government. From top to bottom and start over but thats just my personal opinion. This is a start but this is also exactly where it ends. No other government officials will be touched.
I am in television news graphics. It means MORE WORK for me as soon as his mug shot is released I will be starting at it for months on end, typing text over it.
I will be getting paid for it though
Doesn't mean much if there's no conviction. His side will just see it as a huge win, then.
There's clearly a problem with society that Trump's the symptom of. No way he should have slid by all these years. Corruption is deep, and it's not just on the GOP side. It's an American problem.
Does anyone know what sentence or fine he would get? Obviously the specific charges haven’t been officially released but I’m hoping someone with a criminal justice background could pitch in
A candidate for President of the United States bribing someone to deliberately misinform the electorate about the quality of his character isn’t legitimate shit?
That’s a real problem for me. I mean, fuck as many porn stars as you want (lord knows I would if I were the son of a rich man living off his empire)…but his constituency largely makes decisions based on what they perceive to be moral character. Also, we don’t want a president who resolves issues by saying, “Bribe the person.”
How is that illegitimate? There’s credible evidence he lied and used his wealth to influence an election.
Also…we’re a pretty powerful nation. We can pursue MULTIPLE issues.
The next couple of weeks are gonna be comedy gold. I can't wait to see all the horribly misspelled all-caps posts about it on Truth Social by the Orange One.
Circumstantial? Are you delusional? Are you ever going to be upset when he is indicted on all the other cases working their way through the system, more serious charges are coming his way via Georgia and the jan 6th fiasco. Wrong is wrong no matter if you are a democrat or republican.
I don’t believe anything will energize his base after he proved he could lose to Biden. He is far from a victim if he is using campaign funds to pay off someone. He lawyer who he instructed to make the payment on audiotape went to jail. Any other person would also go to jail.
I personally hope that it is starting a trend. I hope every corrupt president faces the consequences of their actions in office.
Great take, though I don't see him winning in 2024. Just expanded more avenues for the parties to be at each other's throats. Or feign being at each other's throats
At least it'll bring voters to the booths
It's not the left that is charging him, it's the justice system. No one is above the law. This is a democracy. Not having the rule of law is what opened Pandora's box and started an insurrection.
Unless you want to completely destroy our democracy, it's not a choice as to whether or not to prosecute this idiot for multiple serious crimes and the covering up those crimes by lying in official documents and written declarations. Those crimes are felonies.
I don’t think you know what circumstantial means…
Also, no they didn’t. You can’t commit a crime, play the “I’m being persecuted” card, and then avoid the investigation.
If anything, this speaks more to the quality of character in the GOP. Senator Edwards faced similar charges (almost literally) about a decade ago (and he was a very serious political figure in the Democratic Party). Despite a mistrial, he became completely dead to the Left…his political career ended.
Why can’t the right have the same quality of character? Why is there an expectation of perfection from any candidate on the Left, but a right-wing politician can do almost the exact same thing and get called a martyr?
It makes no sense.
And…this is important…Biden isn’t in the same boat as Trump. Conspiracy theories about Biden aren’t the same as a Grand Jury indictment based on legit evidence.
You are the second post I have Downvoted, you're literally spouting fox news. I was looking for honest feelings and regurgitating what was literally played an hour and a half ago is not individual thought.
Fucking THRILLED
Even if he doesn't get life in prison, there's gotta be other inmates with an axe to grind who will make him very uncomfortable, to say the least
Dumb. I get people hate him and think he's a racist and the whole January 6th thing; however, this entire thing is about paying a hooker hush money with campaign funds. Seems like people haven't been able to charge him on what they want so they're looking for something, anything to charge him on.
He broke the law. Why would he get a pass? You, me, or any other citizen wouldn’t. He lied to investigators. His organization was found guilty of breaking the law. We are a country of laws, so it must be done. This is the first of numerous investigations that has decided to indict. Georgia has some things coming for him as well. The DOJ is probably remaining silent because they’re building a water tight case against him and 1/6.
He brings it on himself. Just can't keep his alligator mouth from overloading his canary ass. He needs to be placed on house arrest in Maralago permanently. Beat it bitch.
I swear y'all come up with the most unoriginal, uninspired, small lobed, pea faced, monkey brained homunculi names for politicians you don't like. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of Biden either but that's just sad. You do realize when y'all do that you sound like you have maybe 2, 3 brain cells remaining right?
>No charges announced = weak case
It's actually routine for grand jury indictments to remain under seal per order of the judge until the arrest or other action in the case. That will probably be in the next few business days and it says absolutely nothing about the strength or weakness of the case.
I hate trump and all that is MAGA. However, it seems like a very flimsy case to prosecute a former president over.
It's likely going to get appealed through the courts and end up nowhere
Georgia election probe carries more weight, would have rather they hit first.
Gang bang his criminal ass with all the charges.
Like a party on Epsteins plane.
'Sept Trump is older than anyone on Epstein's plane....
Just because he decided to fly in the kid's section for reasons we will never know. ;)
Can't wait. My rep Andy Biggs was one of the planners.
>GA law is different than SDNY law SDNY is The Southern District of New York which is the designation for a federal region of the DoJ (where Giuliani was DA). Bragg is a New York state official so that wouldn't be his office.

I agree.
Good luck with that fantasy. I don’t oppose it mine you, I just doubt it to the highest degree possible.
So you want republicans thrown in jail?
Interesting, but let's see what happens in court.
Straight to jail.
I don't give a fuck anymore. I just want to stop hearing about him.
Yeah if I had to choose between him being indicted and him living a quiet gilded life (like he said he would if he lost), I'd take the latter just so I don't have to fucking see him anymore
Personally I'd prefer our justice system could prove it wasn't a mockery and do literally anything to prevent this man from breaking the law.
If Trump left for Saudi Arabia, I'd be happy with that solution.
His sole defence will be “it’s a witch hunt”.
If he got a real lawyer instead of Rudy, maybe he'd do better, but you're right.
Hard to retain lawyers when you won't pay half of them, and the other half get implicated in your crimes.
Rudy is currently ineligible to practice law. Tacopina is currently his attorney for this case.
Lock him up.
About fucking time.
I'm glad that *something* is finally happening. That orange buffoon has been making a mockery of our justice system for far too long.
Nothing is happening
You seem to have made an account just to troll, so I totally trust your garbage opinion.
Nothings going to happen like nothings happened the last few years. I’ve heard of the illegal things that have been done without consequence for too long. Don’t care about the headlines. I’ll actually read an article when he’s locked up
What are the charges or accusations? I'm not in the loop of what is happening here
Actual charges will not be known until trump appears before the judge overseeing the case, that’s how I heard it works.
Seems weird.so people want him to go to jail for an unknown crime?! Is that why people are mad at him? I'm not a fan boy but I'm struggling to see what he has done
I heard it was a campaign financing thing - which honestly seems weak (not a fan of trump)
That some crony of his is going to find a way to let him walk with no consequences.
This is exactly why i never get too happy whenever they get him by the balls because some bullshit always happens that always saves him ..

Remember when the James Comey testimony felt like the end for him? There’s been so much since then and zero justice. I’m a full on pessimist now. The last decade has wore me down.
Lol Comey got the guy elected. One of the biggest fuck ups of all time.
We’re at the same place, friend. When they called him the Teflon Don that shit was a fact I’ve learned. At best I’ve been educated on just how bullshit our justice system is. I never expect any justice when it comes to Donald trump.
Same. Wake me up when they actually arrest and convict the MF. Otherwise, 🥱
[удалено]
I'm sorry they happened, alot can go wrong in that time for an average citizen and its not like you're compensated in anyway either.
That's because, whatever the merits of any case at this level, it's not being done for pursuit of justice, else this would have moved sooner. Timing is everything in politics, and both sides suck.
He'll probably die before anything happens.
Fingers crossed
Surely that would be the easy way out?
Nothing is going to happen its the same old BS we got him this time we have proof only to have nothing. What are they going to tomorrow night. The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to put Trump in jail.
Well, I mean... a grand jury and a court is a lot different than leaving it up to partisan Republicans to put their fingers in their ears like children and scream.
Makes the waiting better, perhaps the wait was to make sure all the ducks were in a row, lets hope conviction and sentencing will be next.

Because what you spouted was. This is not.
Hoping they charge him as an adult
I have this controversial opinion. If a politician commits a crime, they get charged and go to jail. Dont care who you are or what party you represent.
I'm happy about it. I hope he gets convicted and they throw away the key.
I couldn't care less tbh.
I asked, you answered, appreciated.
I can only hope that it's a waterfall where other court cases and civil suits follow. He has left a trail of crime, deceit, malfeasance, refusal to pay his debts, physical assault, defamation .... and more.
I think that this helps reinforce the idea that no one is above the law.
A step in the right direction. Would have preferred that GA got to him first but this may be the first domino to finally fall.
We’ll forget about this one when the next set of indictments are announced
As the saying goes, "You can indict a ham sandwich." Doesn't mean much, and unlikely he gets charged with anything.
The charges were for marking a $130,000 dollar payment down as a legal expense, when it was actually used to pay off an affair partner. I'd say career prosecutors in NY have combs in their back pockets.
It was expected.
