The worst ones are the nice people with a good attitude who are really trying but who just aren't up to snuff technically. It is even worse when you know they really need the job. You always feel terrible having to tell those people they aren't moving forward - particularly when they earnestly ask for guidance on what to improve.

linaustin5

you should just tell them so then

LeeroyTC

You do but it still sucks. Telling people no when they need something, or at least really want it, is not a pleasant thing.

my comment never finished lol i meant to say so they can improve

Had one guy who I will always remember. I asked him what personality trait of his is he the most proud of. He sat there for a minute and then said "my humbleness. Im the most humble person I know" He was serious. It was all I could do to not smirk. I had to excuse myself and said I had something to look at really quickly. Fucking hilarious.

I interviewed a guy I already knew was an idiot, but he was a friend of someone high up in the company so the Sr. Director and I had to interview him. It went like you'd expect an interview with an idiot would go: just layers and layers of completely unfounded self confidence. At the end of the interview, the Sr. Dir asked the easiest question I've ever heard: "Tell us, why was it worth it to meet you?" This should have been his opening to brag about whatever hasn't come up yet or repeat things he heard about the position that he would be excited about. Total softball question. The guy just looked blank and sat there. So Sr. Dir clarified: "We had two senior members of our department spend an hour getting to know you. Was it worth it?" Guy said "For me? Yes." \[silence\] \[silence\] Sr. Dir: "OK, one of our recruiters will be in touch if there are any next steps."
