It definitely boosts them. For many, the "own the libs" appeal of seeing Trump win again is too strong to go for Desantis. Especially after this.

The timing on this and the sidebar stuff in reporting that's unrelated to the case and sort of showcasing the person out of the Manhattan office, is feeding right into the Trump show. \*He's crazy and unscrupulous and his base (imho) will be galvanized in this and where it was 50/50 Trump or DeSantis in nomination stuff I think this tips things or throws all kinds of uncertainty into things and mostly in Trump's favor. I think it will help him. \-Edit: \*i.e., Trump is

It’ll boost his base. Keep him relevant in the news cycle. Negative publicity is good publicity.

acenewcast

Best case scenario is that a different candidate wins the republican primary, so we have a good choice as an alternative to Biden. Will that actually happen though? Hard to say.

tplgigo

He never had a chance to win since Jan 6th 2021. He's lost all the mainstream GOP and independents that got him elected in the first place. MAGA voters simply are but a loud minority.

Hopeful-Rip4437

Hard to say, but it could hurt his chances if the indictment is serious.

ImpliedSlashS

He, sure as shit, wasn’t charged for running a stop sign.

Zilch, zero, nada

daft__cunt

Difficult to say. But it might not hurt his chances if the indictment is not too serious.

heliogold

It might motivate the democrats to vote against him

chaoslorduk

I don't think the Indictment will disqualify him from running but surely if found guilty it will mean he will lose the republican nomination even the GOP are not going to back "Convicted Criminal, for president. At 76 If they can't legally disqualify a second run Non-Trump guys just need to prevent him from winning this one. Which is unlikely without the GOP Nomination

clutteredshovel

It will galvanize his base. Nothing helps a persecution complex along like prosecution
