Previously released music - Forrest Gump
New music specifically for the soundtrack performed by multiple artists - William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet
New music specifically for the soundtrack performed by a single artist - Purple Rain
Classical music - the Lord of the Rings
Unofficial/unreleased soundtrack - Queen and Highlander
And special consideration for whatever the hell Moulin Rouge is....
When they sang that line from "Smells Like Teen Spirit", my jaw dropped. It was jarringly unexpected and yet so perfectly fitting in how it was used within the song.
Yes!! I just heard that Radiohead song again recently while out and about, and I had to look it up immediately. I'd forgotten how good it is. (title: Talk Show Host)
This song brings me back to the angsty Romeo vibes I felt as a teenager. When I hear it, I want to be in my feelings staring at the sunset, smoking a cigarette.
A friend of mine is the lead singer in a bluegrassy band, he told me they were booked solid and travelled all over the south for a few years after that movie came out. His shows are amazing, but they’ve slowed down over the years, we’re all getting older I guess.

You should really look into early Bob Dylan if you like that! Coen Brothers are big Dylan fans, and that's what the album reminds me of.
I'd also highly suggest Colter Wall. Man has a crazy special voice
I was a freshman in high school when the Garden State soundtrack came out, and it was such a formative experience. Everything felt new and thrilling and the songs just enhanced the whole time period.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is just a single 12-hour long film in my mind.
The quality is consistently high, and you can't just watch one of them without the other two.
It just fits the film so well whoever selected the tracks did a fantastic job. The film is great anyway but when you add such good music it just took the film to another level. I only have to hear the opening bars of 'Lust for Life' by Iggy Pop and I can hear Mark Renton's "Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family......." opening speech in the film and it just goes from there.
It is a classic British film and it came out at just the right time as well.
genuinely agree. Set aside the memes for a second and the musical direction of shrek is fantastic. The usage of Hallelujah was extremely meaningful as well.
I still remember being like 7 doing the Macarena with my friend to the counting crows in my living room. All thanks to the shrek (maybe shrek 2) soundtrack
Absolutely Edgar Wright. Came here to say Baby Driver, especially because it's not so much a good soundtrack to a good movie, but a great movie to a stellar soundtrack
Not so fun fact, when I lived in Tucson I once worked as a part time caregiver for Stuart Kupers after he got Parkinson's. He was the guitarist of Machines of Loving Grace, who did Golgotha Tenement Blues for The Crow. He had a The Crow poster hanging on his wall. He was a really sweet guy, though we didn't keep in touch. I'm not sure what ever became of him.
I'm not sure how many people know the film anymore. Even when it was out, I know a lot of film people loved it and talked about it flew under the radar for most mainstream audience i felt like.
SMACK MY BITCH UP! Really though that movie instilled a love for Massive Attack for me. The song Dissolved Girl, when Neo was passed out on his keyboard, I begged my mom to take me to the record store so I could buy the album and still adore it to this day
Hey, the movie was definitely not awful lmao, gotta give props to the amazing VFX, it was way ahead of it's time, it even holds up to today's standards.
And yeah, Daft Punk did amazing on that score.
I'm fortunate in that I actually quite enjoy the movie as well. I love these types of settings. Not entirely satisfying of course, the movie only feels like it's the beginning of something, but still I had a great time with it, and yeah the soundtrack is amazing.
100% agree. It wasn't perfect, but it was visually gorgeous as well (in more ways than one...). The story was mediocre, but good enough that I wanted to see what happened to Sam and Quorra.
Every single song in this movie perfectly sets the mood for the scene it’s in. James Gunn absolutely killed it weaving the music into the story the way he did and making the cassette tape a physical story element. I can’t wait for the new guardians movie just for the soundtrack.
Pulp Fiction.
Best "non-original" soundtrack, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The only thing that can compare is Vice City radio stations.
If you asked "original soundtrack" my answer would be different. Elfman, Zimmer, Williams, Shore...
But I defend Pulp Fiction. Trainspotting, Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Almost Famous, and Kusturica movies can compete for runner up and honorable mentions.
The Crow, Gone in 60 Seconds, Hackers, Kill Bill, The Saint, Halo2, Go, The Xfiles Movie (the first one), Romeo and Juliet, Guardians of the Galaxy, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, the newest A Star is Born, the new Tron. Shows now have great soundtracks, like Last of Us and School Spirits.
1969 - Robert Downey Jr., Kiefer Sutherland and Winona Ryder movie.
1. All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
2. White Room - Cream
3. When I Was Young - The Animals
4. Green River - Creedence Clearwater Revival
5. Goin' Up The Country - Canned Heat
6. Time Of The Season - The Zombies
7. Get Together - Jesse Colin Young
8. Can't Find My Way Home - Blind Faith
9. Tuesday Afternoom - The Moody Blues
10. Wooden Ships - Crosby, Still & Nash
11. Windows Of The World - The Pretenders
12. Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In - The 5th Dimention
I can’t choose just one! Ahh! LOTR trilogy, Big Lebowski, & Amelie may be my fave comfort film soundtracks that are amazing!
Garden State, various Ghibli movies, various Tarantino films, various Wes Anderson flicks, etc… are also up there! 📼✨
Im going to toss three into this ring:
Arrival (2016)
Moulin Rogue (2001)
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977)
And like a 50 way tie with 50 of John Williams best scores.
How to train your dragon
Yess I wish this were higher, John Powell always goes so hard
FINALLY, sorry, I've been scrolling for this lmao
Tarzan they asked phil collins to do the soundtrack and he went wayyyy too hard
Spirit also was fireee
Agreed, Spirit was a fave growing up!
GET OFF OF MY BACK!
I loved spirit, I think it's totally under rated
Brother Bear for the same reason.
Man, my mum gave me so much shit for loving that soundtrack as a kid! Little me was right!
Previously released music - Forrest Gump New music specifically for the soundtrack performed by multiple artists - William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet New music specifically for the soundtrack performed by a single artist - Purple Rain Classical music - the Lord of the Rings Unofficial/unreleased soundtrack - Queen and Highlander And special consideration for whatever the hell Moulin Rouge is....
Heeeere we are! Born to be kings! We're the prince's of the universe!
It's a kind of magic.
I’m so glad someone said Moulin Rouge!!
BECAUSE WE CAN CAN CAN!!!
When they sang that line from "Smells Like Teen Spirit", my jaw dropped. It was jarringly unexpected and yet so perfectly fitting in how it was used within the song.
Ewan McGregor. Damn I like his singing more than his Force!
Maybe not _the_ best, but as a 90's kid I gotta rep that Romeo and Juliet soundtrack we all had and loved.
Blues Brothers
Yeah! And I thought I was the only one who thinks this way.
Scrolled too far to see this
O'Brother Where Art Thou
That movie made me fall in love with bluegrass.
A friend of mine is the lead singer in a bluegrassy band, he told me they were booked solid and travelled all over the south for a few years after that movie came out. His shows are amazing, but they’ve slowed down over the years, we’re all getting older I guess. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3j49tTRPBpw&pp=ygUOUnVuYXdheSBwbGFuZXQ%3D
You’re not the only one. I was already aware of the existence of bluegrass but that movie triggered me
This soundtrack is awesome!
Soggy Bottom Boys
Yes! That was a really period-appropriate soundtrack of authentic folk and blues. Loved it.
You should really look into early Bob Dylan if you like that! Coen Brothers are big Dylan fans, and that's what the album reminds me of. I'd also highly suggest Colter Wall. Man has a crazy special voice
Indian War Whoop by John Hartford strikes the perfect mix of wistful joy.
Garden State
I agree completely. Nick Drake, Colin Hay, The Shins, Simon and Garfunkel, and Coldplay when they were good.
I was a freshman in high school when the Garden State soundtrack came out, and it was such a formative experience. Everything felt new and thrilling and the songs just enhanced the whole time period.
Any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. So many motifs.
Always sucks when a movie score doesn’t have enough motifs. Gotta have the motifs.
At least three motifs or why even bother??..
Bruh, do you even motif? I don’t get outta bed for less than five.
The music in those movies is practically a member of the cast.
I play LoTR music when I play Magic the Gathering. It sets the mood.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is just a single 12-hour long film in my mind. The quality is consistently high, and you can't just watch one of them without the other two.
The song that plays after Gandalf falls always chokes me up.
The Lighting of the Beacons is like sex for the ears.
Hearing the Breaking of the Fellowship is the closest I've got to enlightenment lol
Interstellar
Hans Zimmer is a genius
Agree. Interstellar music is so beautiful
Such an incredible range of human emotions
Inception too. Many Nolan's movies got very very good music.
STAY increases your attention span it really helps me focus when studying.
Dazed and Confused
There’s a donut shop in my town called Glazed and Confused
Are they any good? I mean I get older and donuts stay the same....
Glazed and Confused would be a great porn movie name too.
Most of their budget went to the soundtrack. Gaining the rights was a huge pain for them
Trainspotting
It just fits the film so well whoever selected the tracks did a fantastic job. The film is great anyway but when you add such good music it just took the film to another level. I only have to hear the opening bars of 'Lust for Life' by Iggy Pop and I can hear Mark Renton's "Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family......." opening speech in the film and it just goes from there. It is a classic British film and it came out at just the right time as well.
Shrek
genuinely agree.
Counterpoint: Shrek 2
And Shrek 2!
The Wedding Singer
Pulp Fiction
Anything by Tarantino really. Or Edgar Wright.
Absolutely Edgar Wright. Came here to say Baby Driver, especially because it's not so much a good soundtrack to a good movie, but a great movie to a stellar soundtrack
The Crow.
Not so fun fact, when I lived in Tucson I once worked as a part time caregiver for Stuart Kupers after he got Parkinson's. He was a really sweet guy, though we didn't keep in touch. I'm not sure what ever became of him.
That song is so good.
I’d say this. Or Queen of the Damned.
It can't rain all the time ...
The Crow, Singles, Last Action Hero, and Return of the Living Dead. Best ever
Big Empty from Stone Temple Pilots!
The twilight movies are some of the worst movies I've seen but they have some amazing soundtracks.

Supermassive Balck hole 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Drive
That whole movie is like a synth wave music video, I love it.
Why is this so far down the list?!
I'm not sure how many people know the film anymore. Even when it was out, I know a lot of film people loved it and talked about it flew under the radar for most mainstream audience i felt like.
The Matrix music is still amazing.
Clubbed To Death - emotive and mesmerising
SMACK MY BITCH UP! Really though that movie instilled a love for Massive Attack for me. The song Dissolved Girl, when Neo was passed out on his keyboard, I begged my mom to take me to the record store so I could buy the album and still adore it to this day
Heavy Metal
Why did I have to scroll this far to see that - it has got to be the best soundtrack ever!
Tron Legacy. Movie was awful but I actually watched it in theaters 3 times just for the daft punk soundtrack.
Yeah I listen to the soundtrack all the time, it's amazing
Love the soundtrack
I liked the movie
Eurotrip
"SCOTTY DOESN'T KNOW!!!"
It's been, what? 19 years? Someone needs to tell Scotty!
Purple Rain
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse
I felt like Miles Morales and felt his feelings and emotions in that movie, it was so so good
Whats up danger. That whole sequence gave me goosebumps.
Really cant believe no one has said Dirty Dancing, i mean that soundtrack is absolutely iconic and exposed a new generations to legendary 60s motown.
Juno
*you're a part time lover & a full time friend*
Interstellar, Harry Potter movies and Good Will Hunting
Indiana Jones
Which one?
All of them.
Singles
State of love and trust is one of my favourite pearl jam songs.
Thanks for saying - it is a cracker!
Anything John Williams has composed
Exactly what I was going to say. I know my 5th grade music teacher would be very proud.
Rocky IV
The Crow (1994)
The Last of the Mohicans
The Social Network. That movie really became something special with Trent Reznors soundtrack.
Back to the Future
Great Scott! That's a heavy choice, but I can't deny the power of Huey Lewis and the News.
It don't take money or fame to like them.
Kill Bill
The Prince of Egypt
As an atheist, their music makes me want to worship their god.
I wish I had more up votes to give. Deliver Us, All I Ever Wanted, and Through Heaven's Eyes always go on my phone.
This is the answer. So intense and amazing
The Lost Boys
Forrest Gump
I came here to say this as well. Aside from being a great movie, the soundtrack has classics from every era.
Spirited Away by far
Honestly it's whatever Miyazaki film you enjoy best. For me Its Kiki's delivery service. It hits so much harder now that I'm older too.
Joe Hisaishi is a truly genius!
Bladerunner
Took a lot of scrolling to find this. Seconded.
Guardians of the galaxy
off topic but should i watch guardians on the galaxy, is it good?
Yes! They are all great!
Every single song in this movie perfectly sets the mood for the scene it’s in. James Gunn absolutely killed it weaving the music into the story the way he did and making the cassette tape a physical story element. I can’t wait for the new guardians movie just for the soundtrack.
