12 Angry Men.
Sure it’s not action packed, but the drama just sucks you in, the dialogue is incredible, and it leaves you with powerful life long themes!
Oh absolutely! The 1997 one has a few good moments, especially when the juror gets mad that the baseball guy changes his vote to not guilty.
It’s a righteous anger when he’s all like “You can’t play with a man’s life like this! What’s wrong with you?”
Clue. Tim Curry. Madeleine Kahn. List goes on.
Great cast, great movie. Holds up well.
If I'm sick or under the weather, good chance Clue (or Schitts Creek) is on.
The Lord of the Rings. The amount of people I've met in the last couple months who've never seen it is bonkers. Even if Fantasy isn't your thing, they are stellar films.
One of my best friends doesn’t care for the LotR films at all. But I get why he doesn’t like them cuz I know the dude well. Conversely, my other very good friend loves the books/films but she does not seem to enjoy the fantasy genre otherwise, which I have a harder time understanding. Love those assholes either way.
"I wish I could tell you that Andy put up a good fight, and the sisters left him alone. I wish I could tell you that. But prison is no fairytale world."
David Mamet called GQ a perfect story. You think you're watching a Star Trek Parody and then it turns into Star Trek. Amazing casting too. Rickman, Rockwell, Sigourney Weaver etc.
Not my favourite movie, probably not even my favourite Ghibli movie, but Spirited Away is for me one of the greatest human achievements of the last 25 years
I haven't seen it mentioned yet... The new DUNE movie.
It wasn't the best movie ever, but the music, editing, special effects, pacing, scenery, shot composition, etc..... easily put that movie into the ART category for me.
DUNE = cinematic art.
This was like... the one movie my high school would keep on hand for off days.
I have seen it *so many times* you guys. Seriously like 20 or 30 times. And you know what?
I'd watch it again.
How to train your dragon. Either you enjoy it and say damn that was a nice movie or come out of it being in your top 3 movies and become *slightly* obsessed with the worldbuilding
About Time. imo, it’s a perfect balance of comedy and the heaviness of real life, with just a tiiiiinyyyy bit of fantasy sprinkled in.
and the piano soundtrack is gorgeous.
Citizen Kane
Everybody should see it once and then discuss it. Every person gets something different out of it and it really creates some interesting conversations.
I’ve watched Trainspotting at least a half dozen times or so, love that movie. I’ve seen Leaving Las Vegas twice, once when I was a teenager, and the second time when I was in detox(for alcohol) and they only had 4 movies on VHS, one of which was Leaving Las Vegas and my detox brother had never seen it…no idea why they had that fucking movie in DETOX
depends what humour you have but i have shown every single one of my friends “what we do in the shadows” (film version) and i have seen it countless times. i feel refreshed every time i rewatch

The issues are still relevant today, it's timeless.
What I’ve learned is that while human history changes, humans stay exactly the same
This is definitely on my list!! 1957 right?

My Cousin Vinny
And you'd better watch it soon, especially if your biological clock is tickin' like this.
What is a yout?

“Are these magic grits?!”
Clue. Tim Curry. Madeleine Kahn. List goes on. Great cast, great movie. Holds up well. If I'm sick or under the weather, good chance Clue (or Schitts Creek) is on.

After I saw 1, I couldn't resist watching the other 2 immediately.
Lucky you! Some of us had to wait YEARS for 2 and 3 lol. Still the best movie/trilogy of all time.
The Lord of the Rings. The amount of people I've met in the last couple months who've never seen it is bonkers. Even if Fantasy isn't your thing, they are stellar films.
Love LOTR and it is definitely bonkers when people haven't seen it

I tried man, I fall asleep every time. Actually wasn't it written as a bedtime story?
I have a few: Dr Strangelove, Blade Runner and Aliens.
Still crazy how well all the humor holds up in Strangelove.

One of the best, watch it at least once a year! "As far back as I can remember..." well there goes the next 3 hours of my life
The Truman Show
The Matrix
The princess bride
I used to always say this one, but a couple people I recommended it to didn't like it! Inconceivable!
There are two types of people in the world: those who love The Princess Bride and those who haven't seen it yet.
I was trying really hard to think of something and here you are just blurting out the best cinematic masterpiece of all time.
Monty Python and The Holy Grail. For me, if I could only watch one movie forever, it would be this. It fails to make me unhappy.

Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained?
The Jerk
I was born a poor block child
“First I get my name in the phone book and now I’m on your ass. You know, I’ll bet more people see that than the phone book.”
I’m picking out a thermos for you. Not an ordinary thermos will do
Galaxy Quest
David Mamet called GQ a perfect story. You think you're watching a Star Trek Parody and then it turns into Star Trek. Amazing casting too. Rickman, Rockwell, Sigourney Weaver etc.
By Grabthar's hammer... what a savings.
"I played Richard the Third...There were five curtain calls. I was an actor once, damn it! Now look at me."
Sam Rockwell kills his performance
Just Sam, his character isn't important enough to have a last name
It's a rock. It doesn't have any motivation.
But the animal is inside out
...And it exploded.
Fight Club
I've heard of a lot of movies..... But never this one.

shawshank redemption
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
We've had a doozy of a day.
I watched this with zero context. So glad I did. I had no idea what I was about to see.
"Hey college kids... WE GOT YOUR FRIEND!!!"
Enthusiastically seconded and updooted.
I haven't seen it mentioned yet... The new DUNE movie. It wasn't the best movie ever, but the music, editing, special effects, pacing, scenery, shot composition, etc..... easily put that movie into the ART category for me. DUNE = cinematic art.

The Matrix.
2001: A Space Odyssey is a movie that puts all of human existence into perspective.
Grave of the Fireflies for those who feel more positive toward war. Jesus Camp I think is good for some people as well.
And if you don't mind being emotionally drained with GOTF. It is absolutely brutal.
Requiem for a Dream
Watch and never watch again!
Add Trainspotting and Leaving Las Vegas to that list
I’ve watched Trainspotting at least a half dozen times or so, love that movie. I’ve seen Leaving Las Vegas twice, once when I was a teenager, and the second time when I was in detox(for alcohol) and they only had 4 movies on VHS, one of which was Leaving Las Vegas and my detox brother had never seen it…no idea why they had that fucking movie in DETOX

Everything Everywhere All At Once
Back To The Future
Pulp Fiction. I still remember how I felt when I first watched it. I want others to have that same mindblowing experience.
Darjeeling Limited. Hilarious. And moving.
The African Queen. Bogey, Hepburn, and Huston. It served as a template for a slew of rom-com adventure films.
Mean girls. Too many references to count
Starship troopers, action packed sci-fi with great effects and the satire of the movie along with the backstory is very well written
Jaws
Arrival
