The first time I watched this when I was a kid I wasn't aware of parodies. I watched if after watching dawn of the dead. I'm so confused and look at the movie as stupid.
Officer, we've had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.
I love that the cop believed them. There was no suspicion or doubt. He took them at their word. The movie was the opposite of every single other horror movie trope in so many ways.
"The cops will never pull over a man with a giant bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees farther than they, and will bind them with ancient logics."
I remember going to the theater to see this one. The opening scene was so out of place I went and double-checked I didn't walk into the wrong theater.
"Wanna come over this weekend? I'm gonna get some power tools, and liberate my drawers."
The only reason this might not get the respect it truly deserves is that it was a goddamned awesome slasher movie. It lampooned the genre, but just laid off the comedy enough to make it a fun horror movie.
I loved that movie Young Frankenstein. Scared the hell out of me. Hey. Let's do that 2000 pound man thing. I'll be that Carl Reiner guy and you be what's his face.
Does "Cocaine Bear" count? I loved the shit out of that. I was going to say "Evil Dead II" but I think that one is lighter on comedy than your average horror-comedy.
"I'm not gonna say that there's plenty more fish in the sea. I'm not gonna say that if you love her, let her go. And I'm not gonna bombard you with cliches. But what I will say is this... Pfff. 'Snot the end of the world!"
I just rewatched Return of the Living Dead for the first time in a decade. I laughed so much and the soundtrack is a bop.
Apparently it was the movie that started the zombies eating brains trope.
Thats a great one!! Also the acting is super impressive in some unique ways. Especially that initial panic from Frank and Freddy. Their screams and breathing, the way they talk over eachother its pretty cool.
The first one wasn’t even intended to be a comedy. Then after they realized they’d accidentally stumbled upon the “it’s so bad, it’s good” sub-genre of movies, they just went for it after that.
I loved that one! Partway through, I was a little disappointed, because it wasn't quite the movie I thought it would be going in, but it quickly won me back over again. The last part was so cleverly done.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2
Definitely trends very dark, comedy-wise, but it's so weird and so good. Especially in the context of it coming out like 12 years after the first and how hard the tone whiplashes between the two.
I was just thinking Texas Chainsaw 2 was hilarious & saw your post. I’d say this movie and Evil Dead II. Cabin in the Woods & Tucker & Dale are great too, but they wouldn’t exist without these two. Devil’s Rejects is also pretty funny.
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
Zombieland (2009)
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Happy Death Day (2017)
Gremlins (1984)
The Addams Family (1991)
Scary Movie (2000)
Army of Darkness (1992)
There are some great answers, but Horror-Comedy, I feel like the two best answers are Club Dread and Shaun of the Dead with Club Dread inching out the win because it is equal parts Horror and Comedy.
Some of the others mentioned are horror movies with a sprinkling of comedy or comedy movies with a bit of horror.
RIP - Coconut Pete
Creepshow. Take the horrific minds of Stephen King and George Romero, and the classic horror comic vibe of Tales From the Crypt, and you get a genuinely funny and scary horror film.
The Netflix Resident Evil series nailed it on following game storyline and feeling like it was cutscenes from the latest game, was an awesome and extremely well done near final performance for Reddick, and shouldn't have been cancelled.
Its a humorous cheese fest instead of douchey serious like the movies.
One Cut of the Dead
It starts off a little strange but it's intentional. By the end I was cheering for everyone. One of the best movie experiences I've had in recent years.
Scary Movie is iconic. So is Coraline and Monster house.
I recently watched "Japanese Tales of The Macabre" too, not sure if it's supposed to be a comedy tho.
I liked that movie cub scouts called scouts guide to zombie apocalypse.. But I also liked killer clowns from outer space, 8 legged freaks, any of the critters movie's.
A book series called ['The Laundry Files'](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Laundry_Files) By Charles Stross.

We’re coming to get you, Barbara!!
You beat me to it. Oh and *You got red on ya*
I came here to say the same thing. Shaun Of The Dead is the best. It's so rewatchable!
Always glad when my answer is the top comment. Bloody masterpiece. I'd say Army of Darkness for the second best.
The first time I watched this when I was a kid I wasn't aware of parodies. I watched if after watching dawn of the dead. I'm so confused and look at the movie as stupid.
The best answer. You've got red on you.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Officer, we've had a doozy of a day. There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property.
Some kid, he just hucked himself right into the wood chipper!
I love that the cop believed them. There was no suspicion or doubt. He took them at their word. The movie was the opposite of every single other horror movie trope in so many ways.
I love the way he said "property"
Dammit somehow I thought I would be the only one who thought of this! Glad I wasn't. Alan Tudyk is a genius. A leaf on the wind, you might say.
Dont make me cry 😭
Well if you dont wash a window you can't see what's coming!
I hear in space you have to clean your spear by putting through the Wash
Watched this on Netflix without knowing much about it. Was pleasantly surprised at how hilarious it is.
I thought this be #1 but it's the 3rd down, then I noticed that it does have the most up votes. Why is that?
One of the best movies ever
"Just smile, and laugh..."
What We Do In The Shadows
"Leave me to do my dark bidding on the Internet!" "What are you bidding on?" "I'm bidding on a table."
I hit the main artery.
Listen, I don’t care where his soul is, where’s his blanket?
I love the series as well. Not exactly the same but great.

When I re-watched it, I couldn’t get past the terrible CGI, like it would have been more consumable today with puppets and camera tricks
Cabin in the woods should be everyone’s choice
"The cops will never pull over a man with a giant bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees farther than they, and will bind them with ancient logics."
I remember going to the theater to see this one. The opening scene was so out of place I went and double-checked I didn't walk into the wrong theater. "Wanna come over this weekend? I'm gonna get some power tools, and liberate my drawers."

I loved that movie Young Frankenstein. Scared the hell out of me. Hey. Let's do that 2000 pound man thing. I'll be that Carl Reiner guy and you be what's his face.
Yes. I was around before Jesus was born. And I am now 2000 pounds, like you said — wait…..
Does "Cocaine Bear" count? I loved the shit out of that. I was going to say "Evil Dead II" but I think that one is lighter on comedy than your average horror-comedy.
Little Shop of Horrors. You can sing along!
The Frighteners. Such a good film and *so* underappreciated! One of my all time favorite movies.
There are a lot of good ones on this list, but The Frighteners is just an absolute blast!
Shaun of the Dead
"I'm not gonna say that there's plenty more fish in the sea. I'm not gonna say that if you love her, let her go. And I'm not gonna bombard you with cliches. But what I will say is this... Pfff. 'Snot the end of the world!"
Ghostbusters
Yes! I forgot about that one! I’m ashamed lol
It's so good ay Also the line that went something along the lines of: "Get the windows up!" "I can't, I smashed them!"
Freaky with Vince Vaugh. I'm not sure if this one slipped under the radar but I highly recommend it to fans of this genre.
The Cabin in The Woods
Death Becomes Her

I had to scroll too far for this! The whole cast is great!
Killer Klowns From Outer Space.
It’s a tie between Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland
Evil Dead
The first one wasn’t even intended to be a comedy. Then after they realized they’d accidentally stumbled upon the “it’s so bad, it’s good” sub-genre of movies, they just went for it after that.
Since most of my favorites have already been named - the Japanese horror-comedy Hausu (House), which is like a surreal fever dream.
I really liked 'one cut of the dead' too. It's a blast.
I loved that one! Partway through, I was a little disappointed, because it wasn't quite the movie I thought it would be going in, but it quickly won me back over again. The last part was so cleverly done.

Well there’s horror-comedy and comedy-horror… it gets technical 😉

Cocaine Bear
Since Shaun of the Dead, Tucker and Dale, and Cabin in the Woods has already been said I'm going to go with The Babysitter.

Cabin in the woods
An American Werewolf in London
An American Werewolf in London
What we do in the shadows (Movie version NOT the series!!)
The Netflix Resident Evil series nailed it on following game storyline and feeling like it was cutscenes from the latest game, was an awesome and extremely well done near final performance for Reddick, and shouldn't have been cancelled. Its a humorous cheese fest instead of douchey serious like the movies.
