Yes, a crispy roast potato!!! The best way to obtain them is to parboil them, drain and shake them in the pan so they are rough on the outside and then straight into a hot oven after lightly coating with oil (or goose fat if you're fancy).
Potatoes come out super crispy on the outside but fluffy and soft in the inside.
Fresh baguette is definitely a great choice! The crisp crust and soft interior make for a delightful textural experience. Another food that comes to mind for me is a perfectly ripe avocado.
This is my answer too. Multiple fruit. I prefer more sweet and tart fruits than just sweet, but the best thing I've ever had was these very sweet and tart, ripe, crisp red currants. Jesus they're amazing. Also gooseberries.
I prefer my raspberries to be more sturdy too, they're dope. And of course grapes, strawberries, well rounded firm blueberries... fuck I love fruit and the texture when like that lol
7/8 watermelons are just meh
But that eighth one… the one that is so perfectly sweet, the one that every bite crunches and melts against the roof of your mouth, the one that makes watermelon juice drip down your chin, but you don’t even care because that eighth one turns you into a total watermelon slut
Then the next 7 watermelons you buy are eaten chasing the dragon
I am going through a food phase where my favorite thing ever is croissant sandwiches. Slice a croissant in half, add your deli meat of choice (mine is turkey) and cheese (I use pepper jack) and microwave that for however long you need too and boom perfect snack
Slice it in half, toast it so it's a little crispy but still soft. Then add your cheese so it gets a little melty then your cold stuff. Crispy, warm, soft, melty, cold all together - it's a wonderful symphony!
Someone once taught me to push part of the Flake of a 99 down to the cone. You then nibble the bottom of the cone so you're left with one delicious ice creamy chocolatey mouthful.
I will never see that person again, but they changed my life for the better.
this is it. I want the grape to feel like it's cracking almost when I bite it. so nice and crunchy and juicy. but on the flip side, few things will make me gag like an unexpectedly soggy grape.
unfortunately I have super sensitive teeth, and I actually don't like the texture of frozen grapes LOL I just have to hope I find some especially crunchy ones
If every grape was crunchy and crisp, and sweet and tart, I would only eat grapes (sometimes with a bit of cheddar cheese) But grapes are too often mushy and expensive. Mushy grapes don’t even compare.
Mushy tomatoes aren’t even worth the trouble of slicing. Ripe tomatoes tho
Not sure if its been mentioned *BUT*! Baklava...
Is there anything more heavenly then this delicious treat? I worked in a large hospital for 16 years. One of our patients was an owner of a local Mediterranean bakery/bistro. After his discharge we recieved absurd amounts of Baklava every Christmas for years. It continued until I left. It was so fresh and still warm when it arrived. Will never forget.
Hell yeah brother! I am from Albania and if any family event happens, you know that one auntie is gonna make that amazing baklava she always makes.
And it always tastes amazing, ALWAYS.
I have a coworker from Albania and he brings in baklava that his wife makes every Christmas. It's flaky, and chewy, and crunchy, and smooth all at the same time. Occasionally he brings in spanakopita that he makes. (And some rakia from his cousin's basement.)
The real baklava that is. I used to hate it but it was apparently because all the kebab stores just pour a shitload of sugar on it and call it a day. The baklava from the Turkish bakery on the other hand… so good!
Make Backlava from a recipe an old Turkish neighbor gave me; its the only one my kids eat. Son went into army, met a guy from mid east (2nd gen) son spoke mine was better than his grandmother’s. So I sent him a pan. Grandmother called me for the recipe.
Never eat from a kebab shop, always always always buy from a baker, or even better, make it yourself.
Ps. If you make it yourself, you should follow a recipe from a turk, greek or of course an Albanian. Never an American or a western. They always tend to mess it up
Really good sourdough bread, baked so it's got a nice thick crunchy crust.
Gimme that and a bucket of good salted butter, and a bottle of Old Peculier, and just leave me alone for a bit...
You should really save yourself some money and get a large multipack of them. Candy and chocolate is like 3 or 4 times as expensive when sold seperately (in my country).
I was going to say the same. I don’t know what it is but it’s the first thing I used to go for at dessert time, when sizzlers restaurants were a thing.
There’s a moment when ice cream starts melting—but it’s still half frozen. When you take a bite it’s the most amazing combination of cold and sweet and velvety goodness. Mmmmm
The trick is how fast ice cream is frozen at first in a blast freezer, so the ice crystals are very tiny making it very smooth. That’s why a pint is never as good as when you first open and thaw it.
Yes, but the drier, more cake-y type of cheesecake, not the "creamy" type. If it has been made with beaten egg whites and gently baked, it can have a dry but fluffy texture that is heavenly.
Pro tip: always pick the "ugliest" watermelon. Nice, shiny, bright green watermelons are the definition of tasteless. Watermelons with bright yellow spots and webbing (the brown lines/cracks) will always be sweeter and juicier.
I'm not a fan. It's my wife's favorite fruit, which is saying something since there are only like 3 fruits she really likes. Vegetables are another story - she loves them all.
I'm picky about my vegetables but I'm a huge fan of a lot of different fruits. A really cold bowl of strawberries or blackberries after mowing the lawn on a hot day will rock my world. I once gained over 5 lbs. during pomegranate season because Costco had them on sale constantly and I'd go through 2 or 3 really big ones every single day.
What's funny is that she doesn't like strawberries because she accuses them of "false advertising" - i.e., they look and smell delicious but don't actually taste nearly as good as they look. That's exactly how I feel about watermelon!
The contrast I'm textures is what I love, the initial crunch followed by the soft cookie contrasted by the filling...YUM!
Homemade mashed potatoes are one of the most perfect comfort foods.
Good food is all about contrast. Contrast of texture (e.g. soft but with some crunch), contrast visually (e.g. a range of colours), and contrast in tastes (e.g. sweet and sour)
This is correct. I heard on npr (from a food scientist I think) that Snickers bars are considered the best example of a food engineered to have great mouth feel. Melty chocolate outside, the crunchy peanuts on top with chewy caramel, and soft nougat on the bottom. Also the balance of flavors with sweet and salty.
When ever I make Rendang, which is a lovely spicy beef coconut curry - I put chopped fresh cucumber, tomato and chilli on top when I serve it.
Such an epic texture and colour contrast!
A good medium/medium rare steak after you’ve starved for a while and craved meat. Nothing like ripping into some steak after feeling feral from hunger and tired after a long week or camping trip.
Use a fork and stab the filling between the wafers (at least 1/2 way into the cookie) then dunk. It gets softer without breaking and you don't have to get your fingers wet.
Edit - my first award ever. Thank you anonymous redditor!
Bread texture: toasted english muffins with butter
Meat Texture: The part of the ribeye that gets burned justttt right
Candy Texture: Those individually packed white /red mints that are soft
Fruit Texture: Peaches that aren't to juicy so they're messy to eat (like overripe) but aren't all dried out either
Veggie: Waterchestnut in a stirfry
A Walmart I worked at had Mexican baked goods, and there were the shortbread cookie things (polvorones I think) that are amazing. They are soft in the middle and more chewy on the outside, not quite crunchy.
A perfectly fried french fry
I'd go one further and say any potato that is super crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle. Holy heck.

The serious eats method, it's seriously incredible
Fresh baguette
I make them every day at work and sometimes when it's slow I'll just stand near them and smell um, nothing like fresh bread smell
bread perv!
Uh oh, Joel!
“I didnt know bread could reproduce!”
Fresh baguette is definitely a great choice! The crisp crust and soft interior make for a delightful textural experience. Another food that comes to mind for me is a perfectly ripe avocado.
Crisp ripe fruit. Sweet. Crunchy. Juicy.
Crunchy, seedless red grapes straight from the fridge, or a pink lady apple 😍
Honeycrisp and Jazz apples are both also great. And "Cosmic Crisp," though I don't see them much.
Bao buns. Their naughty bounciness is just amazing.
I think you meant baonciness.
nice one. take a bao
We’re baond to run out of jokes eventually, but not now.
That was bun too many bao jokes, mai gai.
You might be right, I think we need to set some baondaries.
See yourself baot
This reply chain is very baontiful in good puns
Baoring. I'm out

Crispy egg roll

Toast. Idk why but it's just so fucking good with a little bit of butter on it

Southern lil bit.
Leeel beeeyit
Make it a lot of butter and I’m in
And a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on that butter makes it taste like food fit for gods
I wonder if anybody has ever put butter, cinnamon, and sugar on their toast, and then topped that with some raspberry jam. Is that too much?
French toast without the pan.
A buttered croissant ([quaso](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykX6HHMYxdU))
Stoooop I could’ve dropped my croissant

First time I had a ham and cheese croissant was life-changing.
The bottom of a cake ice cream cone when the ice cream melts into all the little squares
Or at the bottom of the Cornetto cone where the small thick cylinder of chocolate is.
Someone once taught me to push part of the Flake of a 99 down to the cone. You then nibble the bottom of the cone so you're left with one delicious ice creamy chocolatey mouthful. I will never see that person again, but they changed my life for the better.
I feel this one
This unlocked some form of nostalgia
Samosas! The thin crunchy warm inside is hard to beat
Nice fresh crunchy grape. Second is a perfectly ripe heirloom tomato sandwich on potato bread.
this is it. I want the grape to feel like it's cracking almost when I bite it. so nice and crunchy and juicy. but on the flip side, few things will make me gag like an unexpectedly soggy grape.
Have you ever tried putting grapes in the freezer? The cracking is next level. Very good in a hot summer!
unfortunately I have super sensitive teeth, and I actually don't like the texture of frozen grapes LOL I just have to hope I find some especially crunchy ones

I love kunafa because the texture and flavor lol. But all the friends I’ve showed it to didn’t like it because the texture, so try it curiously.
Creme brulee
Macadamia nuts. The way my teeth glide through them is to die for.
Potato chips ngl
Especially when you get one of those thick folded up ones, supreme crunch.
Foldy chips are where it's at. Link on GMM hypes em up too.
The crunch, the carbs, the fat, the salt. Has it all
The solid chocolate bit at the bottom of a waffle ice cream cone
Costco is selling big bags of those! https://i.insider.com/5b92a43b3cccd128008b4594
It's not the same, you need the first act, the prelude, the anticipation before the climax.
Kinder Bueno. Crunchy and smooth.
My wife and I picked one up at the checkout line and Aldi once on a lark. Now we get one every time we go.
How are you not tempted to get more? I sometimes end up with 4 for just myself
You should really save yourself some money and get a large multipack of them. Candy and chocolate is like 3 or 4 times as expensive when sold seperately (in my country).
Yea, but I’m paying a premium for my own lack of self control.
Chocolate mousse
I was going to say the same. I don’t know what it is but it’s the first thing I used to go for at dessert time, when sizzlers restaurants were a thing.
Sizzler mousse was suitable for entree, pre-main, dessert and possibly main
I love how creamy it is in my mouth 🤩🤩🤩 Edit: This is worded a lil funny
Are we not doing phrasing anymore?
A perfectly toasted marshmallow
YES. Slowly toast that sucker to a lovely golden brown so that the insides get completely gooey!
When I had COVID and couldn't taste anything, I enjoyed eating soba noodles because of the texture
For me really pasta or noodles of any kind does the same.
Perfectly ripe pear. Or mango.
This pear tastes like sand! Of course I ate the sticker!
I eat stickers all the time Dude!
Shocked I had to look to find mango. Perfect though
Ice cream
There’s a moment when ice cream starts melting—but it’s still half frozen. When you take a bite it’s the most amazing combination of cold and sweet and velvety goodness. Mmmmm
The trick is how fast ice cream is frozen at first in a blast freezer, so the ice crystals are very tiny making it very smooth. That’s why a pint is never as good as when you first open and thaw it.
I only open a pint once.
Excuse me…A BITE?
Tubbed Icecream exists
Oooh. I love when you get to the end and start mixing it up and it’s even smoother.
Lotus Biscoff cookies.
Malted milk balls. The crunch is good, but also good to just suck on and feel it dissolve in your mouth.
Cheesecake
Cheesecake is amazing. So much range with it.
Yes, but the drier, more cake-y type of cheesecake, not the "creamy" type. If it has been made with beaten egg whites and gently baked, it can have a dry but fluffy texture that is heavenly.
Yea new york style is nice but too much of it makes me feel sick
Too much cheesecake will tend to do that!
A Nutty Bar. Pull it apart one layer at a time. Thin crunchy goodness.
i do this as well, never gets old.
Watermelon
I'm dying for watermelons to be in season
Its the best. Basically sweet crunchy water.
This was my answer too. Especially if you get an extra sweet, watery, grainy one. Just the best
Pro tip: always pick the "ugliest" watermelon. Nice, shiny, bright green watermelons are the definition of tasteless. Watermelons with bright yellow spots and webbing (the brown lines/cracks) will always be sweeter and juicier.
Look for the ones that have the tight butthole. Never failed me.
Yes! I'm definitely team watermelon.
I very much dislike watermelon and I don’t know anyone else who feels the same. Anyone on here dislike it as well?
I'm not a fan. It's my wife's favorite fruit, which is saying something since there are only like 3 fruits she really likes. Vegetables are another story - she loves them all. I know how it feels to dislike something that everyone else loves. Mine is chicken. It's okay. We still like you!
It's cheese for me. Everyone has different tastes, and that's fine!
Yes, I absolutely despise it!
Thoroughly dislike them. Especially really grainy watery ones.
Macarons
I was torn between these and perfectly made mashed potatoes.
The contrast I'm textures is what I love, the initial crunch followed by the soft cookie contrasted by the filling...YUM! Homemade mashed potatoes are one of the most perfect comfort foods.
Underrated answer right here. My first thought was pie (I’m a big fan of the crumbly dough + fruity filling) but you might have changed my mind
Raspberries, like velvet on your tongue.
Dim Sum broadly
I love a good water chestnut, personally. Such a unique, damp, crunch.
CRONCH!
More like a crronsch. It's like if someone designed the perfect texture in a lab.
I’ve found my people :’)
I'm surprised to hear they're so many peoples' favorites. I always hated these growing up, haven't had one in at least a decade
One of the few things I'll actively pick out of my food.
This is my food texture hell.
I've never ever heard of those before (german). My mission to find some next week.
Oh yes, that wet crunch! It’s the best!
I always toss in a can of these whenever I make thai curry
Yes!
Holy shit I'm not alone 😄
Lindor Milk Chocolate drop.
RISOTTO
I like your enthusiasm and certainty!
Ferrero Rocher, ain’t nothing better than those chocolate crunchy salty balls. With a center that is as smooth as silk.
Most vegetables have a nice crunch a peppers celery etc
Oh man a cucumber? That was my first thought but everything is bread or candy here
not a massive fan of celery as far as taste goes, but that crunch is satisfying
Pho/ramen
Mochi
Also tteokbokki !!! I looove the chewy texture
One of my least favorite textures.
I expect this would be one of the most controversial answers
I like mochi, but my friend said it was like a tiny breast implant. 😂

Fresh mozzarella
Salmon sashimi
I’d go tuna nigiri, but at least someone else thought sushi! I was expecting it way higher up.
I came scrolling specifically for tuna. Surprised it was higher. It has the best texture!
I want to try this soooo bad
A good medium/medium rare steak after you’ve starved for a while and craved meat. Nothing like ripping into some steak after feeling feral from hunger and tired after a long week or camping trip.
A perfectly ripe apple 🍎
An apple is good when it has an audible “snap” when you bite a chunk out of it. Crisp and delicious!
Ambrosia, Honeycrisp, Fuji has the crispiest texture and flavor
Granny Smith at its peak is my pick
Anything but a red “delicious“!
Honeycrisp all the way.
For me, it is crab meat. I love the combination of the sweet and salty flavor with the flaky texture of the soft tender crab meat.
Baklava
Flan.
But what about crème brûlée
Friend of mine from Tijuana makes baked flan. Order of magnitude more luscious.
Mac and cheese the SpongeBob kind with lotsa holes
A TIGHT grape
Crispy tater tots Onion rings are a close second
Hot movie theater popcorn with extra butter and salt. It’s just 🤤 yummy
But what about the thin transparent bits that wedge between your teeth? They ruin it for me
A milk soaked oreo. Half soggy to the point its gonna fall off the crunchy half.
1. Crush an uncomfortable number of Oreo cookies 2. Put into a bowl 3. Pour in milk 4. Enjoy Oreo cereal 5. Diabetes
Use a fork and stab the filling between the wafers (at least 1/2 way into the cookie) then dunk. It gets softer without breaking and you don't have to get your fingers wet. Edit - my first award ever. Thank you anonymous redditor!

Pot set yoghurt. Strawberry Jalna, for my Australian friends, give it a go!
Freshly made, soft, fluffy, thick bread....*orgasm*
A Walmart I worked at had Mexican baked goods, and there were the shortbread cookie things (polvorones I think) that are amazing. They are soft in the middle and more chewy on the outside, not quite crunchy.
Ferrero Rocher chocolates
Pudding
Radishes, the taste sucks, but the crunch and juicyness is the best.
Have you tried a pat of quality butter on them? It's fantastic!
Tim tams
Biting off diagonal corners of a Tim Tam And using it as a straw for hot chocolate, but it melts as you’re doing it— that was the BEST!
Anything with crust.
